Scratch the TV, and get a TV card for your computer.
It'll save some space, and probably some money (unless you already have the TV).

Yea even if your dorm gives you a trash can bring one, it's amazing how fast you can fill them up. When I was in the dorm last year me and my roommate had 3 trashcans that would fill up basically every other day. So bring it. Also, considering lofting your bed, but make sure you check with your university concerning their rules on lofts and the specs needed. Lofting saves TONS of room. It saved me so much so that I had a love seat sofa in my 15X13 dorm room 🙂

Phonecards? In this day and age of the cellphone?

some of the most useful things i remember in our dorm room :

fridge/microwave [combo offered by school]
Trash can
Fan's (we had 3 in the room and the room was never hot)
Laundry basket. (Keep your dirty close in one place you slob)
HEADPHONES (if you go to college with speakers, but no headphones, prepare to have many sound-less nights)
shower thongs (who knows what kinda shady people you'll live with)
A desklamp
CD Player (or other portable music source)
Clothes appropriate to the weather (ie if you're near the beach, have beach clothes)
Shower Caddy + Hygene stuff.
A Bike (if this is appropriate)
extra bedsheet/pillow sheets
mattress pad
Earplugs

and of course keeping your room stocked with food. We had a costco membership my roommate and i split the cost on and we had soda, burritos (microwavable), chips, etcetc in bulk.

have fun in the dorms 😀 hope your roommate isn't an ass.

Two whiteboards - one for the outside of the door ("anyone want to go to xxx",) one for the wall, one for inside ("your girlfriend's name is xxx")
