Link - The Variety Map Pack has been sent to Sony for certification on the PS3. No firm release date yet.

Yes, all the news maps are integrated into every playlist.

Edit: You'll still need to purchase the map pack to play them though.

Nothing will be available at least until they release the new store, I did hear that they are going through certification now, so perhaps soon after (or simultaneously) with the launch of the new store.

When matchmaking, it searches for matches based on what maps are available. If you have the map pack, it will match you with players with the map pack as well.
 
PS3 DLC Release Date Announced

I have some great PS3 news for everyone! We have hammered out the details for the upcoming DLC and will be releasing the new Variety Map Pack on PS3 in North America on Thursday, April 24. In addition, We?re also really excited that the Map Pack passed Sony Europe certification and will be propped on the PlayStation Network on May 1.

To celebrate the release of both map packs we will be hosting a Double XP weekend for North America from 12:01 AM PDT on Friday, April 25 to 11:59 PM PDT on Sunday, April 27. North American players will be able to play the new maps against members of the Infinity Ward team on Friday, April 25 from 5 PM to 8 PM PDT.

We?ll also be hosting another special Double XP and Play With Devs event for our worldwide / European users specifically. For our European fans, we will have a Double XP weekend beginning at 12:01 AM GMT on Friday, May 2 and concluding at 11:59 PM GMT on Sunday, May 4. You will also get a chance to play the new maps against the IW team on Friday, May 2 from 7 PM GMT to 10 PM GMT. That way you guys aren?t left out due to conflicting time zones!

I've been putting a little bit of time into this over the weekend for some reason, and was wondering what you guys thought of the new maps? Any word on when/if they'll be free? Also, so you have to choose a special playlist in order to play with those who have the new maps so they'll be added to the rotation?

Will they ever be free? I doubt it since they are still charging for the CoD2 map pack.

Well, they were doing the pay-then-free model with Halo and GoW, but I know those are both Microsoft published games, and didn't know if possibly CoD4 was going to do this as well.
 
Is there any way to allow users to pick their own layout in a local multiplayer match? I hate how it just gives you 15 or so pre-determined layouts, and you have to settle with whatever perks you have.

I've also started going through the game on Veteran difficulty over the weekend, and damn is it tough! I've made it just past the 'Death From Above' level and heading into 'War Pig'. Tough, but fun. I've NEVER gotten this much mileage out of a game before. The fact that I'm playing through the single player campaign again over a year after release is a testament to this game and achievements (since I'm mainly doing this to get the veteran achievements).
 
i don't think there is a way on the same 360. my friend brought his 360 over once, and we just hooked it up to the net and he connected to his own profile and we played a private match over live. only thing close to what you are wanting i think.


but on the same 360, don't think there is a way.

I don't believe there's a way to get custom layouts w/ local multiplayer. I had the same problem and couldn't figure out a way to do it. Why this is the case I have no clue, but it was a piss poor decision.
 
I absolutely suck at MP. I just started playing this weekend, but this is the worst i have ever done in a FPS. I'm averaging 1:2 kill/death. 🙁

I'm sure you'll get the hang of it as you play a little more. I'm actually a little miffed that my longest kill streak came in my very first online match with the game over a year ago. 🙂 I still sit at 12, which I've matched 3 times since, but I just can't get past it.
 
12? HAHAHAHAHA, I hit 5 once. I just cannot get used to the stick for aiming, as compared to a mouse. My main attack method is with a SAW and I just unload a bandolier at the enemy. It seems like everyone else takes less than a 3-shot burst to kill me, though. 🙁
 
A buddy and I just played a few one-on-one matches on the two small maps (Killzone and Shipment), and it was nothing but laughter. We played shotguns only, then tried a couple of rounds of sniper only on Shipment. It was actually quite fun playing snipers. We made a rule that we couldn't use our pistols unless we were out of sniper ammo (which was highly unlikely), but could still use melee and nades.

I highly recommend it sometime, it was fun.
 
Oh, and I want to say that if IW didn't program constantly respawning enemies into this game, it wouldn't be anywhere near as difficult as it is. There's nothing more annoying than not being able to plan out an attack because enemies literally respawn from every single direction. Playing this game on veteran is an exercise in futility and luck.

I just complained about this last night, and what happens today? I beat my personal kill streak record...twice. Haha. I hopped online with a friend, and finished 27-4 on wet works, my best ever. Got up to a 14 kill streak, which could've been higher, but I had ran out of ammo and the match ended to boot.

Played Ambush, started out the match not necessarily having any sort of plan, but I got high ground, set up a claymore, and shot until I ran out of ammo. Called in the heli, then grabbed a sniper rifle one of my teammates left when he got killed on the same roof top. I then proceeded to snipe about 4 or 5 more guys, and finished with a 15 kill streak.
 
Hi guys. I'd like to bring this back up. Hoping to find some of you guys playing CoD4 tonight, or whenever. I'm finally getting to the point in the game where I'm confident that I can more than 65% KDR each time I play. I'm ready to team up with people and see how well a group of 5 or so can do. It would be great to join a team of some sort and see what real strategy you can put the to the game. If anyone plays regularly please let me know - GT: The True Quam
