You know what's stupid? I played CoD in the first level and was completely awestruck immediately. Then I never played it again... I'm a stupid panda sometimes.

I did the same until 2 months ago. And then I bought this: http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/256514.asp. So yea, you could play it now if you want. Although it would probably be hard to enjoy it knowing that the sequel is out right now.

If a game is worth playing, I'll usually check out the first in the series before others. Problem is there are so many other games out right now as it is, I cant keep up. Why cant I just stay home and play games day in and out? Then I'd definately be caught up.

HOLY 6 CD'S BATMAN!

Just got back from Gamestop...installing all 6 cd's now 🙂

DAMN! DVD's PEOPLE!! HOLY COW.. 6 CD'S!!! Wow..we are reaching the end of 2005 and here in the US pc games still come on cd's. Truly amazing. Hopefully there will be a nice cd->dvd conversion somewhere though with 6 cd's I guess that more than 1 dvd? Dual layer I suppose.

I posted this is the other COD2 thread...but I figured people might look here first...

Well, i've played through the first mini-mission thingy and...well..../drool

I'll save my comments for a mini-review, but let me just say that the controls are butter smooth, the graphics are GORGEOUS, and the action is very intense.

Here are some COMPRESSED pictures of the first mission/tutorial running at: 1920x1200 4xAF, Everything on the highest setting possible

Thanks for the sweet shots ... I'm looking forward to playing this as soon as I get my rig back up and running!

I'm undecided about picking this one up. I never played the first one, and I got my ass handed to me in the CoD2 demo (maybe I wasn't using the right tactics?). Those screenshots like damned good, though, and I'm a graphics whore if there ever was one.

Here's a couple more 🙂

EDIT: And yes, #10 is a live shot of that building blowing up 🙂 And yes, #11 is just about the best model/human textures I've ever seen. 🙂

What is it running like as far as fps with those cards and at that resolution? Any AA/AF? I have a single GTX and need to play at 16x12, would love some AA too.

And thanks for posting the pics. Looks great.

With EVERYTHING on ultra/max/uber/pwn-ur-mom quality, I get about 32 fps average. You should be able to run it beautifully w/a single GTX.

Just went through the first few missions. Yeah, plays very smooth at 16x12 with 4xAA. The game looks beautiful. It's intense as well, so much going on at once.

I installed it yesterday and I like it

if you in to first person shooters who cares is it has some same stuff from the first COD your in the game to shoot people and guess what you get to shoot people wow

call me crazy I look forward to COD reloaded

and it runs great

Saying something "runs great" on a particular machine, without mentioning what settings it is running with, is pointless (not to mention that everyone's individual definition of the word "great" is likely different). I bet onboard video would run "great" too on 640x480, with all details off/minimal.

To get playable frame rates everywhere (outdoor, indoor, large battles, vehicles, etc), I have to play at 1280x960 with noAA/AF and all details on high. I call "playable" 25+.

Compared to your friend's machine, mine is Star Trek-like technology and it doesn't run "great" at all.

Hey guys, I bought the 2 DVD version of COD2 today.

When I go to run the game it says access violation 000018

What's going on???

I just bought COD2 last weekend, and I'm having some weird problems with it. My system has a 4200x2, 2gigs memory, and a 7800gtx card hooked up to a Dell 2001 monitor that I run at 1600x1200. When I first started playing, I couldn't get past basic training where you have to throw "potatoes" through the building. The bathtub and doorway worked, but it wouldn't acknowledge a potatoe through the window, and finally it wouldn't give me any more potatoes! I emailed Activision, and they told me the game has problems with Dual-core CPU's! Then I had another weird problem. A day later I went to play another game, and I had no sound. I have a soundblaster Audigy2 ZX platinum connected to the Creative labs P7800 speaker system, and I thought my toddler had messed with the wires, but no. I had to do a system restore to the point before I installed COD2, and the sound worked again. I then re-installed COD2, and I was able to pass the basic training on a lower resolution setting, but it wouldn't let me pass the exploding building. Nothing would happen even though I have the demo charges in place. Then the sound quit on me again after another day! Another restore fixed it. I don't know what's happening, but it seems game related, but I do get sound in the game when I installed it, but not the next day????. Anyway, Activision tech support is useless, and I'll give up on their games after this one. It is fun to play when it does play, equal to fear, but fear should have left out the kung-fu kicks, and stayed with common keyboard functions.

Installed Call of Duty 2 today. This is the first COD game I've played. I played for at least 2 hours my first sitting. Tons of fun. Game runs very smooth although I have no idea what my FPS is. How do I turn that on?

Thanks for the console command. They really should have a "test" that you can run to see what type of affect the different settings have. That's one more thing I liked about FEAR.

haha I had to skip that entire first page of this thread just to get to any cod2 related posts...should have called this the official "i am married but still find time to game and post on anandtech" thread 😉
