I haven't completely finished the game but I am very close, I believe - I just exited Tenenbaum's Little Sister Sanctuary.

Wow! What a plot twist right before that with Ryan. I had a feeling Atlas wasn't exactly who he said he was, but he did a good acting job and making it seem convincing.

I've only had 3 problems with the game, and it was sound related. Once I completely lost sound altogether but it was ok the next time I started the game. The other is when people are talking, like on the tapes or from the radio with Atlas or Ryan, sometimes the voices cut out. The last issue was when people were talking, like splicers or when I met with Ryan.
Even though I was standing right in front of him, I had to keep turning to hear correctly, like the speakers would only pick up the left or right channels.

So because of this, I miss some things. So was your character born or created in Rapture and then sent to the top world or were you kept in Rapture until your current age and then everything in the plane was staged? It was Fontaine that did all this to you, right?

I'm going to play through again once I completely finish and harvest the sisters, which brings me to another question. If you were supposed to do everything Atlas (Fontaine) said, why were you given the choice of harvesting or saving the Little Sisters? Was it because he didn't say "Would you kindly"?

I may use cheats though so I can just go through and do everything and explore without having to worry about getting killed.

1. Yes you were created by Fontaine and this Asian guy whose name escapes me, S...something. He becomes much more prominent in the last part of the game.

2. Yes that's my thinking, you are allowed that choice.

I am on my second play through and very close to the end, I've made a point of making saves in appropriate places so I can relive the best moments whenever I choose. I am now harvesting all the sisters, something I've noticed is that you get a lot more Adam, duh! but you don't get some of the neato plasmids like the Big Daddy protector one that you would have gotten from Tannenbaum if you were helping her.

I spent about 10 minutes last night staring at the connect the dots picture you see right before meeting Ryan, with all the major players. I guess you are supposed to be the ? mark picture, but who is the other cat right below Tannenbaum? Is that supposed to be you and the ? is someone else. I couldn't figure that out completely.

Also, is there any upside to not killing Sander Cohen? I've killed him both times through to get his Muse because I'm greedy, but if you don't kill him does he make an appearance later on? Basically I just wrench him in the head after he gives you the last prize and opens the bathesphere. Just wishful thinking I suppose, but really at the end, he would be the only guy left in the city who isn't a splicer technically.

Not be shamelessly gush over this game but going through it a second time has made me appreciate it that much more, it's really really that good.

You were Ryan's bastard child w/ that dancer chick. Fontaine used several new techniques with the help of Suchong to brain wash you into being a trained slave. They sent you outside Rapture for reasons I do not understand, maybe because they though you'd be safer on the outside since you were his "ace in the hole". And then they triggered you to come back with their key phrases.

They also heavily spliced you as an infant, as part of a project to create some sort of super warrior. It said something to the effect of that you had the power of a 19 year old as a baby. But Suchong found these results "dissapointing", perhaps they were hoping for something much stronger.

He didn't force you to harvest the Little Sisters probably because he didn't see how it mattered. He saw them as an insignificant speed bump, your main goal was taking out Ryan and then he just assumed he could stop your heart after that. He under-estimated Tenebaum.

If you save him, you meet him again in the last part of the game. He has an apartment near Tenebaums where he has splicers dancing. He warns you not to interrupt them. This is the only way to get all the weapon upgrades, if it weren't for the weapon upgrade, I'd probably leave him alive even longer.

You weren't made by them, only growth hormone accelerated or something to that effect. You were Ryan's mistake, which is why you can use all his machines. If he hadn't shunned his little girlfriend, Fontaine never would have never been able to exploit you (and her) like he did.

Yeah I've been to his apartment and the dancing splicers, which is one of the creepier parts of the game. So if you leave him alive does he open some secret area where there's another upgrade station? I will definitely not kill him next time.

For anyone who isn't up on Ayn Rand here is a synopsis of the tie-ins:

I can see how that would be so. It totally makes the story a bit different now that you know what you know.

That's right. The thing he said about the 19 year old was describing you after they accelerated your growth. Suchong said something like, "He has the body mass of a 19 year old at 1 year of age."

You can use the Vita-Chambers because you are Ryan's bastard. There is a diary about him having them keyed to his genetic code only, which makes me ask, if the Vita-Chambers were keyed to his genetic code, shouldn't he have "respawned" when you killed him?

For a little while I was convinced that Fontaine was also Suchong, since Fontaine mentioned something in the one of the tapes that he pretended to be an asian for 6 months once.

But I don't see how that's possible now.

The Vita-Chamber in Ryan's office is disabled, it's behind one of the walls. You can re-enable it but he is long dead by the time you do. Ryan chose death.

There is an upstairs to his apartment, if you leave him alive in fort frolic, he is upstairs when you get there. He tells you, you can enjoy the dancing but don't disturb them. If you disturb them he comes down and tries to kill you. If you kill him, you can then go upstairs to the 2nd, freaky part of his apartment with the upgrade station.

Of course, the best way to disturb the dancers is to play the piano :D

I wish I had a screenshot of Suchong's death, it was so awesome.

Someone should play through the game and screenshot/identify all the main named characters. The chick in the tub, suchong, the girl in fontaines HQ, etc.

I played all the way through as the 'good guy' saving the little sisters and the end was definitely worth it. I'm playing it again, harvesting instead. I'm going to take my time and enjoy this game. It's incredible, but it can get really hectic, especially when you have 3 or 4 splicers coming at you and a big daddy gets involved...

Wow, what a great game. What's amusing is the fact that I was most surprised by the pleasant ending; that doesn't seem to happen much theses days. Would've never guessed homeboy grew old :) I figured the "non-reversible" BD makeover would've put a damper on his long term plans topside.

*Dwight Schrute* Question... /*Dwight Schrute*

What bearing does the amount of little sisters saved have on anything? I lost two during the harvest escort bit and I think I may have blown past at least one more at the beginning of the game when the BD's were intimidating as all hell :)

holy crap! there's still a ton more to go through yet!
I just finished becoming a Big Daddy and I'm at the bulk head now...I assume this is the end but damn, it might not be, lol!

My question is why wasn't Ryan, Tanebaum or the scientist that helps you in Arcadia spliced? They seem normal to me while everyone else save for Little Sisters and Big Daddies/Bouncers/Rosies were not.

The kill all the LS ending is a lot better as well IMHO, by a factor of 10.

I'm not sure losing the LS's in the Proving Grounds really has a bearing on anything. This last time through I didn't protect them at all and still finished. There is no finite number I think I lost maybe 7 or so going through on hard. It's annoying to have to run back but Tenenbaum does get increasingly upset about their loss, so the extra audio was worth it.

Ok, plot hole question; why the hell weren't the LS' invincible? When I went through they looked all normal like I had already saved them, but if that's the case why were they still shoving big ass needles into the faces of corpses?

I just finished the game last night after saving all the little sisters. I guess once you save them, they are no longer invincible, although, since they are invncible during the game, why did they need a big daddy to protect them?

In one of the audio tapes they are described as virtually indestructable.....but one of the Diane Mclintock tapes, she describes a raid that her and other Atlas followers carried out where they killed a BD and the horrible things they had to do to a little sister to harvest her ADAM.

So LS's are immune from physical damage, but it's possible to extract the worm from them which then kills them. How exactly this is done isn't fully explained other than reaching in an pulling it out, so perhaps it's like a shield in Dune, the slow blade penetrates the shield.

But the BD's are required to keep people from harvesting the worms.

I just finished the game last night.. pretty mediocre ending.

Too bad the game doesn't have online multiplayer! That would be fun!

Tenebaum (sp?) says even though LS are no longer a host to that worm thing, they are still brain washed by Suchong to collect Adam. Thus, they are no longer invincible, but they still adhere to their old actions.

Wow, what an ending. I thought killing Ryan would end the game. But like a good book or movie, a sudden twist revealed the most intense part of the game. When Fontaine threw the switch and the plasmids started malfunctioning, that whole level was just amazing.

It looked like the Last Stand, broken down barricades, trash everywhere, everything destroyed. Finding the antidotes prompted a switch from my normal, methodical search and destroy routine to a frantic dash across the war torn level. That switch in gameplay was the best! If the creators intended it to be that way, my hat's way off to you.

They could have ended it with killing Fontaine on that level; but another level and becomming a big daddy awaited. Finally facing off with a juiced Fontaine was kinda weird, but what an ending. Going topside and saving the little sisters, watching them grow, growing old, and dying?

I don't know about you, but for me that was a damn good game. When you walk out of a movie and it's all you can think about that day, you know you've seen a good movie. That's the feeling I got from this game...

I thought that Point Prometheus/Proving Grounds felt tacked on, but I guess OTOH if I went immediately to fighting Fontaine after Ryan, I'd have found the game too short. I had a similar feeling about the end parts of SS2 on the Rickenbacker as well though.

I liked Apollo Square a lot - to me it showed that Rapture really wasn't all that rapturous for the folks who took care of its shitwork. Even though the place looked like a warzone, you could tell it was probably kinda scummy even before hell broke loose.

Probably because they suspected that splicing had long-term secondary effects and were smart enough to stay away from it.

Even Fontaine refrains from Splicing until the end of the game.

Most of the splicers you fight against are either addicted to ADAM, or were spliced by Fontaine at his homes for the poor (which were created to provide him with an army of splicers for the revolt).
