It's pretty obvious IMO that, by picking Biden, Obama picked Clinton without actually having to pick Clinton.

I'm luke-warm on Biden myself, but the choice itself looks to be a solid move.

He should have picked Clark. Obama should not have disassociated himself from him. Biden is a pick that is not in sync with Obama's message of change.

1) It would have made amends with the Clinton camp.
2) It would have seriously challenged McCain's military & national security persona.
3) He campaigned a victorious war which is appealing since we are in 2 right now.
4) He has significant leadership experience.
5) It would make any "Obama is anti-American" or "not patriotic" statements ridiculous.
6) Lot easier to market - just put up an image of him in uniform.
7) He doesn't have a mark on his record in regards to voting for the Iraq war.
8) Not owned by special interests like Biden.
9) He has shown that he is willing to attack McCain.

Democrats are consistently viewed as being weak on several issues. Clark would nullify that.

Yep, Biden is a Catholic working-class mope from Scranton, PA. That's Hillary country :) And he's a good contrast on foreign policy to Obama.

As I recall, Clark didn't want the job (hasn't he been pushing Sebelius for VP?). Plus, he doesn't have any actual political experience.

Biden was a fine choice. His remarks during the primary won't hurt a bit as it's expected during the primary battles. On other hand, his strengths as a known figure in US politics lends a good deal of gravitas to the ticket...especially with this foreign policy background.

Few downsides, good upside.

reminds me a LOT of Bush/Cheney, in addition to Santos-McGarry... except, you know, not evil.

Assuming McCain picks a VP that has never said a bad-word about him. Unlikely.

Naw, Biden nor Hillary doesn't represent those folks any more than Obama does.

Your Obama dissed her with his arrogance and showed how dumb he really is... what Democrat wouldn't want the Clinton's on their side?

Besides, Biden is a Catholic which, despite Kennedy being one, is still not considered a "sexy" religion. I say this as a Catholic, lol.

Obama picked a guy, an "old guy", who voted for the war.

Obama is so toast.

So the dems are willing to give up an incumbent seat that was solidly held for a VP candidate? Seems like a risky move with senate control in play.

Delaware? He's up for reelection as it is, and the governor is D.
Interestingly enough, this also would move Dodd up to chair the committees that Biden currently heads.

I'd be happy to take you up on that offer. The only caveat being his removal from the ticket through the most unfortunate of circumstances nullifies the bet.

Who is Johnny McBush picking for VP? And more importantly, who cares? This election has been and will be about one person: Barack Obama. Sidney is just puttering along for the ride.

Obama would never use a horse to pull his Porsche. He might ask Rezko for the number of a "cheap tow". ;)

Good thing for Obama to kinda shrug that off as a person who really doesn't take that stuff so literally.

...unlike the people who take the '57' state thing so literally too...

FiveThirtyEight has said next week's polls should show Biden has pulled PA out of swing-state territory and into the blue-camp.

Obama was running ahead of McCain in PA before the Biden announcement anyway, but this makes it a lock.
