minor overlap of VP watch, but seems worth its own thread... according to CNN, democratic sources have confirmed that Biden will be the VP pick.

gets a huge  for me, Biden was my dark horse favorite in the primaries and I've been hoping from the beginning that Biden would be whoever won's Vice President. I think he's a great choice.

and I'm going to have major egg on my face if Obama pulls out a wild card tomorrow :p

edit: it reminds me a lot of Santos-McGarry

edit 2: confirmed by the NY Times, I'm removing my all-but.

Wasn't it Biden that called Barack "Clean" last year and everyone made a big stink about it :)

he apologized for it, though :)

I think it was just one of those random innocuous statements that got blown out of proportion like "at least four, check with my staff," or "typical white person."

Yeah, I actually like the pick. Biden isn't gonna take shit from Barack, that's for sure. Bring it on McCain!

Didn't he support taking $1 billion of tax money and giving it to Georgia (the country, not the state :D)?

The Hillary supporters are going ape in the comments section. Looks like McCain is getting a lot of Hillary votes (because his platform is so much closer to Hillary's than Obama's.)

I don't get it... as a Hillary supporter, I'm super happy with this choice. it's not like Obama chose Judas Richardon, Biden's been perfectly neutral (the exact position a senator should take in a competition between two of your colleagues) through the whole thing.

besides, what does Hillary get as VP? from a pure power perspective, it'd be a downgrade, and she'd have no career after 2016 if Obama wins; she'd be too old to run again on her own.

WTF? She lost. They need to get over it and STFU. Pick a side. Are you gonna stay a democrat and vote democratic or are you going to change your fundamental ideals and vote for McCain who is the complete opposite on nearly every policy issue just to make a point?

If it's the latter, then you're an idiot.

Yes, in fact he did. It's not like the American people need that money.

I don't think old Joe's vitriol will serve the Obama well.

He made a huge tactical error dissing Hillary like he did... there is no reason he couldn't have at least pretended to consider her as his VP. But the Obama is all knowing...

Dunno... Hillary is probably one of the most divisive figures in American politics going all the way back to when Bill was President. I'm not going to claim that I know for a fact that she would have been bad for the ticket, but there are a lot of people that like her and a lot of people that really hate her.

He picks a guy who voted for the Iraq war, the exact thing that Obama claimed to show a lack of judgment on Clinton's part.

we may never know what happened behind the scene... it doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility that Hillary could have told Obama straight out that she didn't want it and wouldn't accept it.

being VP really does nothing for Hillary... she'd probably have less power as VP than she did as first lady.

how good of an attack dog can he make when he was the one urging Kerry to ask McCain to be his VP a scant 4 years ago.

It's pretty obvious IMO that, by picking Biden, Obama picked Clinton without actually having to pick Clinton.

I'm luke-warm on Biden myself, but the choice itself looks to be a solid move.

I don't think it really adds anything to his ticket. Biden's word on Obama's inexperience and other issues will end up biting them in the rear.

yeah yeah it's dumb, but then so are the red states.

i think Obama should pick Michael Phelps, he's the national hero.
or pick Usain Bolt. annex jamaica and then become an all-african-american ticket!!!

seriously? don't trust cnn 100%. remember they ARE the ones to call Al Gore the winner back in 2000. i guess we'll wake up tomorrow to see the confirmation.

Yeah, the McCain campaign will be able to use Biden's own words to attack Obama.

ABC?s George Stephanopoulos: ?You were asked is he ready. You said ?I think he can be ready, but right now I don?t believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training.??

Sen. Biden: ?I think that I stand by the statement.?

(ABC?s ?This Week,? 8/19/07)

Biden on the Surge:
On Meet the Press, November 27, 2005: ?I?ve been calling for more troops for over two years, along with John McCain and others subsequent to my saying that.?

Iraq:
September 13, 2007: ?My impression is [Obama] thinks that if we leave, somehow the Iraqis are going to have an epiphany? of peaceful coexistence among warring sects. ?I?ve seen zero evidence of that.?

Biden in October of 2002: ?We must be clear with the American people that we are committing to Iraq for the long haul; not just the day after, but the decade after.?

I'm not sure how wise a choice Biden is for Obama. They don't match-up well at all. Bayh or Chet Edwards or someone else who doesn't have a history of speaking out against Obama, foot-in-mouth disease, and a voting record closer to Obama would have been a wiser choice.
