My only gripe about easily the best movie ever made is how careless and lazy the director was about the "defeat" of Scarecrow. If this were any other movie, it would have ruined it. Then again, if I were watching any other movie I'd probably be like "what the hell is Scarecrow doing in this movie?" Anyway, Batman Begins is THEE movie of the year and will win many awards. Christian Bale is a FAR better Batman than Michael Keaton ever hoped to be, and all the others were just a friggin joke. He brings so much to both Batman and Wayne. It's subtle, but you get a very long, very deep look into the complexities of the character. Not with words, not with actions per say, but just the look in Bale's eyes in most scenes is a window into the dark, dark soul of The Bat.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

holy sh!t i cannot believe i agree with Nik

Bale > *

the following is just my opinion: bale is by far the best actor of my generation. by far. if you need proof, see Empire of the Sun, The Machinist, American Psycho, and the Batman Begins.

hmmm all i can say is wow.

That is possibly the best batman ever..and a great movie overal. I put it high on the top list of movies i have ever seen. It was a lot darker then the other ones and i like how it just threw evertying out from the old ones and started a new. Some great lines, Great acting, great story, and no over dramatic special effects.

The only thing i didnt like about the movie..which i have to say..i still enjoyed were the fight scene cameras. You will knwo what i mean when you see it..the camera always seems like its way too close to the action and is constantly moving. You never get a full shot of whats going on. Now I know this makes sense in the way that batman is...you know..in the shadows and all. But still I would have liked to see a little more of the actual combat then just seeing two people wrestle most of the time.

STILL GREAT THO. and if you like batman at all there are tons of moments where you just want to say "Oh hell yes".

It got an applaus after it was over

Overall: I recommend to watching it.

I went in there expecting crap and was surprised. I liked it. It wasn't great and definitely not as good as Batman, but better than Batman Forever. It was however amazing, if you go there and expected crap, like I did. But under normal circumstances, I think it was a decent movie definitely worth seeing to take some of thos Forever and B&R images out of your head. To see Batman back to being himself again - it's a beautiful thing.

I thought the best actor there was Cillian Murphy. He did an awsome job.

I hate how the Batman symbol always keeps changing. I didn't like the ending of the movie because it is inconsistant with the ending of Batman. And the whole movie seems inconsistant with Batman, because he seems to well known by the end of the movie and in Batman, he is still just getting started, just as was portrayed in Batman Begins.

Michael Caine was great as Alfred. Alfred took a greater role in this movie than in others and I think it was better because of it.

Gordon is thin in this movie, then he becomes fat and old in Batman. Not cool.

I didn't like Christian Bale, something pissed me off about the way he spoke as batman. He looked the part, but just didn't play the part as good.

The direction was good, except for the fight scenes were it was mostly rubbish, blurry crap that couldn't be deciphered.

Gotham city was done nicely and although it was messed up in some parts, it still doesn't compare to Gotham City in Batman. It was more industrial, more complex. I don't remember Gatham City having a nice section and a not so nice section. Batman was where it was at.

MAJOR SPOILER *ALERT*
-----------------------------

I didn't surprise me when Henri Ducard turned out to be the head honcho. I wasn't able to predict it, but it wasn't a good twist. I just felt let down.

The movie could've fooled me with that Ending. And they should've done for the sake of less confusion. It's not the first time Shoemaker (I can't spell it) messed up. Remember Harvey Dent.

I take these things very seriously.

Bale is by far the best batman. The movie was awesome, probably my favorite movie in years.
No way man.

Keaton > Kilmer ~ Bale> Clooney

Keaton had wonderful facial expressions that communicated volumes.

Kilmer and Bale is a toss up to me. I just can't decide. There are aspects that I like about both sides.

Boy did clooney ever suck ass. LOL.

Final verdict: Good, but not great. I'm just glad that there was no scene in which batman taps his heels together and ice skates pop out.
What's really funny was that I almost thought this line was a joke... but then I remembered. LOL.

VIAN: You either never read Batman, or smoking some good quality crack =)

That's the way Batman speaks in the comics, in a different tone than he does as Bruce Wayne.

And Bale > *

And the theater that I saw this at, well, I have been there at least 100 times and this was the first time everyone in the salon applauded

Vian, it wasn't meant to be a prequel. It wasn't meant to follow the story lines of the previous movies.

That's what a prequel is.

Yeah but this is not a prequel to the past Batman movies.... so this is a completely new triology (or whatever they wanna do it)...

I thought the joker scene at the end was supposed to follow into the first (1989) movie.

I saw it last night. I thought it was a decent movie, but failed in a few aspects. Some of the fight scenes were muddled and seemed as if the camera was zoomed in too far so you couldn't really see what was going on. They did and good job of introducing batman and his gear, showing its progression and how money obviously has its advatages. It did not, however, seem to mesh well with the batman story i know. I thought it was the joker who killed his parents and some cheesey line when he did, and that's how batman figures it out in the original, because the joker says the line just before he's about to shoot batman. Also the bat mobile seemed to lack the inate qualities (rather phalic in shape, with fins) that make it indeed a batmobile.
I would say go see it, but just remember that most prequel/sequel movies suck and with that in mind you might like it.

Kickass.

that fire breathing horse is ripped straight from "The Dark Knight Returns" (Frank Miller)
although in the book, it's Batman on the horse, still neat that they slipped that in.

edit: Forget everything you know about Batman when you see this movie. The other 4 movies in NO WAY tie into this in terms of story/characters/background...etc.

Joker did NOT kill the Wayne parents. Burton put that in, and it worked great in the movie.

Roger Ebert gave this film 4 stars! The general consensus of this thread seems to be that Anandtechers like it. I was weary of this film when I first heard of it, given the last few movies made in the franchise. After reading this thread I want to go see it now.

Funny that this morning on the Today show Gene Shallot talked about Batman Begins like it was the worst film of the year.
