Mai-HiME
pros : well developed plot and great pace of storytelling, spotless drawing quality, unbeatable voice cast and good music
cons : character design (manga was inifinitely better imo), has bit too many cliches, wasnt all too funny with subpar humor
i wouldnt call Mai-HiME the best show of winter 2004 - spring 2005 season, but it did live up to expectations. sometimes it got too obvious the show tried too hard combine all the elements that are popular these days (school setting, priestesses, summoned beasts, maid robots and whatnot), which felt a bit awkward. some jokes seemed out of place... last but not least, the last episode was far from being dramatic enough considering all that tension that had been building up in past few episodes. its hard to mention specifics wihtout spoiling it for you, so i will just say they could have had a stronger finish. despite all short comings, this show really deserves some recommendation for its quality.
one noteworthy thing is Nakahara Mai, who did the voice acting for Tokiha Mai (funny, her name is
Mai, too), seemed to have a breakthrough in her career imo, expanding her role to a more assertive and aggressive heroine when Tokiha goes nuts in later few episodes. Her best work in my book remains Mizuki Maia of Daphne in the Brilliant blue though.
oh well i guess i will try to finish ug ultimate girls and tactics over the weekend
