and i still don't understand... "of as in between"? was asking what "P-D" was..

It's obvious the drivers used for the R5xx series tests were just functional (and probably not fully optimized or finalized) since Techreport noted that there were graphical glitches evident in some of the tests. I don't really give a damn about the X1800XT availability since it's a card I won't be getting . . . the XL on the other hand better be on the shelves within the next week or so or it's definitely gonna be the GT for me . . .

One thing is clear though is that ATI really needs to design better GPU coolers . . .

We don't know about overclocking though which in the end may make the X800XL more appealing . . .

Still right now, the 7800 GT is looking better and better (especially since prices have dropped below $350)

ahhh.. okay..

and no, i understood your analogy (just didn't get the "p-d" reference), but that doesn't meant the amd fanboys were right last time either (and don't get me wrong, 80% of my desktops run amd, and my servers are moving to x2 now -- my only complain before was the poor multitasking of the a64s).

you can certainly say it's the fastest or whatever, but the bottom line is until it ships, it's not better than saying, "duke nukem forever is the best fps ever made!"

aside from that, the poor showings (still) in OGL games certainly indicates that, even if the product were available today, it's not a clear cut win.

again, i do find the features intriguing, and do like what appears to be better filtering, but i find the release rather disappointing. perhaps i will feel a bit different when/if the parts ship in quantity, but until then, it means little.

Well, in my favorite game (Far Cry), the X1800 XT beats the 7800 GTX 80.1 fps to 74.1 fps at 1600x1200 - 4xAA. At 2048x1536, it is a tie at 68 fps.

AT's Review: "Yes, the X1800 XT is a very powerful card, but it won't be available for some time now. With its 512MB of onboard RAM, the X1800 XT scales especially well at high resolutions, but we would be very interested in seeing what a 512MB version of the 7800 GTX would be capable of doing. Maybe by the time the X1800 XT makes it to market we will have a 512MB 7800 GTX as well."

:) Quadro 4500. :)

Right now it appears ATI slightly won the performance crown.
Nvidia won the delivery crown.

Personally I am waiting until the next generation cards to upgrade ;)

BTW, this tells me that the 6600GT MSRP is probably $250, not $200.

From AT's Review: "The X1300 does quite well versus the traditional low end 6200 TC and X300 parts, but can't really compete with the 6600 GT which is priced near the $149 MSRP of the X1300 Pro."

It looks like the X1800 will be a good portion faster in DX games, the 7800 will be faster in OGL.

The X1800 has a huge lead in Farcry ?

tbreak

Farcry ? 12x10-4AA/16AF

X1800 XT ?92.07
7800GTX ? 64.78

techreport

X1800 XT ? 89.8
7800GTX ? 64.7

And the IQ is better on the X1800 since hardware sites bench in only Q mode on the 7800. ATI is going to have to come out with a benchmark shimmering mode for the X1800. Then we can get an apples to apples comparison.

You should hurry up and buy one of those then so you can revel in your Far Cry superiority....oh wait. :brokenheart:

Looks like it wasn't worth waiting for ATI's stuff. Nvidia all the way for me.

yup....those who got the GTX early were able to play at XT levels....those who waited still cant get their cards...and considering ATI's current track record we dont know if we'll see XT cards on shelves by Nov.

Im sure if they compared the 512 version of the GTX with the tested 512 verstion of the xt then scores would be closer(like they are really far apart anyways).

edit: if the 512 version of the GTX was out.

I am very very disappoint from ATI. All this wait and they came up with this, i was right all along ATI cannot match Nvidia in Video cards any more. They don;t have the technology to compete, i mean look at ATI they are just keep bumping core speed and memory speed just like Intel.

The results will be similar and Yes they are right now NVIDIA rules just like AMD.

I was thinking selling my 6800GT, but after reading reviews i am proud of my 6800GT it beats the %^&%^* out of 1800XT in DOOM3.

Over the top they don;t have their product in the market for another couple of months, i am feeling really sorry for ATI.

Well, I just got done reading reviews from AT and TechReport. It seems like, basically, that ATI's new midrange and low range cards are crap. Their upper range does very well in FarCry and Unreal engine based games (plus F.E.A.R., oddly), and typically does poorly in Doom 3 engine based games. It also drags behind slightly in HL2 based games. Plus it is up to date in features.

Not bad, but I'm very dissapointed with the low and mid end here. Looks like when I upgrade this holiday season, it's going to be a 6800GT (or an X800GTO2 if there are still any left).

**Edit**

Oh, by the way, where is G3Pro?
"I've done tests on the G70 and R520 in 3dmark2005 and 3dmark2003, and the nVidia card beats out the ATi card by some big margins."

that kind pisses me off. you have 2 7800GTX's and you want a R520 now? what gives? i remember when people were always saying that the 7800GTX is gunna pwn the R520. but i guess now when it comes out, the tables have turned. but why do you need a R520 when you already have 2 7800GTX's :disgust:

As he led us to believe, he works with a partner of both ATI & Nvidia. He might as well leverage it. :D

My reasons are amicable. I need to put the card through its paces, plain and simple. The pair of 7800's isn't going anywhere until I can give CrossFire a try (and unless they magically fix the 1600x1200@60Hz thing, it's not a permanent situation for me, as my 2405 isn't going to be lowered to those standards). ;)

hehe yeah. playing at 60Hz will give me a migrain headache.
