With that being said, if someone was to preorder a retial X2 4400+ what would be their approximate queue in your pre-order line.. The next question which I'm sure you can't answer due to channel shortages, is if someone were to preorder now, is there any wide timetable set when one might expect to receive product.. About to build a new rig, looking at a dfi ultra-d a zalman cooler (7000hp, 7700hp, 9500hp) and maybe some other items.. What are your shipping charges like to Alaska? Do you ship via US postal service? Finally do you have a local telephone number which you can be reached..? I'm aware of the email, but apprehensive like most people to spend money at a business which does not have telephone contact information..

Thnx,

J

At last count, we are sitting at 87 pre-orders for X2's. From what I can tell, the biggest distributor is getting 1200 in, and only 318 are spoken for yet. The only issue we run into now is that we're stetching our business credit line. Since we aren't billing our customers until we ship, we have to buy all the processors outright on credit until we can actually ship them out... we've currently got ~$61,000 racked up (per distributor, we have orders in with all 4 major ones) and we're just about tapped out. We can't use NET terms with our distibutors yet since we're working under this new business name, so we're stuck using our credit cards to finance up front. I'm debating on using some our credit line from our other business side, but that's also stretched pretty thin with other obligations, and I'm not sure if it's even going to be possible.

So, right now, I think any new orders we receive are going to be going out about 4 days after the orders we've already got. That will allow us to ship the first batch, bill, clear our credit, and start again. So, whenever AMD finally gets these things out into the distribution channels, our first orders will ship, then 4 or 5 days later, we can start new ones. That's about as specific as I can get on an ETA for you right now.

Second, getting the DFI board, and the Zalman cooler shouldn't be a problem. Some of the Zalman coolers are hard to come by right now, but that's supposed to be resolved pretty quick. As far as shipping charges to Alaska, I'd have to check on that. We haven't ever had customers there, and we'd be happy to work with you, but I'd have to look into the logistics of it all. We primarly use UPS and Fedex, but can use the USPS if need be.

Finally, we do have a local number. However, typically if we have a customer who absolutely needs to talk to by phone, we'd rather they e-mail us with thier phone number so we can call them back. That way you don't have to pay the phone charges (seems wrong for a customer to pay the long distance I think), and secondly, we rarely have anyone manning the phone. I think you would be amazed at how efficient we are with our e-mail communication. Unlike some of the other places that use automated responders and might actually write you back in a few days, we usually get back to people within a few minutes. One of my sales guys, Erik, is freakishly fast. In fact, he often checks the messages from home in his spare time. He only works 8-5 but I've seen him respond to messages at 1am.

Keep up the good Tankguys. I will definitely order from you guys in the near future in bulk. For now I canceled my order with Monarch and I hope they fully refund me for the 4800+. I don't like it when someone charges my credit card but doesn't supply me with the merchandise. On the other hand, I was able to place an order with MWave for overnight of the 4800+. It seems they have 19 in stock (18 now since I just got one...heh). I also got a $10 discount because the order was more than $100. The good news is that I will get it as early as tomorrow or by friday the latest. Seems I'm calling out from work on Saturday to play around with the chip and vaporchill. I'm so happy that I'm finally getting my chip. In the end I payed $30 more with MWave but it's worth it and I don't need to play the guessing game with Monarch.

I only knew how much they had in stock because I called them to make sure they had some in. I didn't want to make sure it was like tigerdirect which they say they have some in stock but it takes 7-21 days to ship. By the time I get home today I will have my chip:) I only got the $10 because I joined their newsletter.

Even if you can "only" afford the 4200+/4400+, I'm still sure that you'll be amazed - I certainly was / am! (though upgrading from an olde XP 1700+ might have helped the feeling of such a massive performance jump)

Well, it looks like I've got a 4200+ shipping to me, and giving Anand's article, it should be an excellent overclocker as well... save myself $500 and get better than 4800+ performance too.

Not a bad price either, considering the free 2nd day air shipping.

I jumped all over that at ZZF :) . I'm sorry to say I'll have to cancel my tank guys order, but not yet. I'm gunna wait for a tracking number first lol. Been watching this thread too long to lose my place in line at TG in the event there was some "mix up" about how many ZZF has in stock.

YES!!!! Just ordered a X2 4400+ overnight from ZZF. I do feel bad about having to cancel my order from Tankguys but I will order from them again.

edit: Tankguys just sent me an email to let me know that they still don't have an ETA on my order and that ZZF had them, even providing links. Great guys!

Noes! If I order the 4400+, I'll only have 8 dollars left on my credit limit...

The responsible person inside me says to wait. :(

Boo responsibility.

Hey, don't feel bad about cancelling orders with us. Heck, I just had Erik update all our customers and give them the links to ZZF.

Like I said before, you guys pre-ordered from us to get them quickly, if we can't get them to you as fast as someone else, you might as well cancel our order and buy elsewhere. I don't mind that in least! Especially consdiering thier price is nearly identical to ours; there really isn't a good reason to sit around waiting for us when you can have them in your hands on on Monday.

No shame in that, that's for sure :)

Oh, and if you guys do send us order cancellation e-mails, don't be surprised if we are a bit slow to respond, I'm sure we'll get quite a few!

Too funny! Well, I got in at $610 and with overnight shipping, it still comes out less than $640.

They must have received a large number of them b/c they usually have a limit of 5 per person but they have a limit of 20 for these.

I guess a $30 increase times 1,000 cpu's gives them a quick $30,000.

Yippie!! I got in before they raised the price. $610 with 2nd Day is pretty darn good. Thanks for emailing us TankGuys. I am very impressed with TankGuys -- there are not many retailers out there that would look out for the consumer's benefit more than their own. Actually I'm scratching my head as to why they would do something like this from a business standpoint, and the only thing I can think of is there's not much profit to be had on the X2's right now. Still, TankGuys didn't need to take the time to let us know, and the public support from them is absolutely wonderful (that's something you rarely see). Very impressed.

You bring up a good point. Actually, the profit we would make on selling you an X2 would be identical to the profit we'd make if you bought a cable, or a Raptor hard drive, or a DFI motherboard, whatever.

Now, you are correct: from the "classic" business standpoint, what we did was insane. No company in thier right mind would do that, as it has cost us a lot of money. However, the other owner and I don't run our business on a "classic" model.

Whether our decision was a good "business" decision or not is certainly debatable. I for one, don't really care that much. I think it's very obvious what the "right" decision was to make, and that's what we did. We might lose money on the deal, but at least all of us can go home tonight feeling like we did what was right.
