Probably that someone at Newegg didn't have the X2 datasheet handy. Either that, or it's a very confusing reference to cool'n'quiet.Originally posted by: toattett
On Newegg, it lists 4400+ Voltage as Variable??
What is that suppose to mean?
It all depends on what you want to do. If you aren't interested in overclocking and want to just put your components together, turn the system on, and never look at the BIOS settings, you're right, DFI is not for you. OTOH, if you want to be able to tweak every possible setting for maximum performance, you don't mind spending some time on that, and you've got a pretty good idea of what you're doing, then DFI is the clear choice.Originally posted by: xl80325
DFI nf4 is not so good and it's not on amd's offcial x2 support list. Better choose asus, gigabyte or msi.

Tankguys have the ASUS A8N-E, which is said to be a great board if you don't need SLI. DFI NF4-based boards may be fine, but I had a bad experience on their "support" forum while trying to ask a pre-purchase question, so ASUS got my money instead.
Edit: here is a link (the picture on that link is not what the A8N-E looks like, though).

Tankguy, I have been completely impressed with everything I have read from you in this thread. I have to say I have been a newegg guy for several years, but I somehow feel like I know you now and would rather do business with you. Sadly I have already purchased my CPU from newegg, but I am switching from an Intel system so I will need a new board for this rig, what is the best one you keep in stock? I would like to get it from you.

Thanks for the link, OC DETECTIVE. That list is much more complete than the one on AMD's site.
For anyone looking for an AGP board for the X2, DFI has an NF3 in that list. They don't give a bios number, though. It just says "official bios". I'd run that down before ordering.
That's fine, please don't think I was trying to pick nits... I just wanted to make sure that those in this thread who would purchase that board from you guys would check out the official specs instead of trying to deduce them from the little picture (which is never a good idea, but I'm guilty of the same). FWIW, the major difference I see is that the A8N-E has the PCI-E 16x slot at the "top" (closest to the CPU), and it also has a 4x slot in place of one of the 1x's.Originally posted by: TankGuys
As far as that "incorrect" picture goes, I'll look into that. We use a lot of stock images (otherwise we have to open 1 of everything we carry, and then we lost 40% on the sale price since it's "open box") and you'd be surprised how hard it is sometimes to find a decent stock image of some of these things! In any case, we'll do some digging around and fix that. Now you know why so many of us retailers have the little "Image is for display purposes only" disclaimer![]()
I wouldn't worry too much about AMD's official list. It might that AMD is only listing boards that ship with a BIOS that supports the X2. DFI says their current BIOS supports the dual core, and they have no incentive to claim support for a CPU if their board doesn't support it. Doing that would only ruin their reputation and create endless support headaches for them. You will have to flash the BIOS in order to use the second core, but anyone who can't handle a BIOS flash probably won't be interested in the DFI NF4 anyway.

Same, I got the Premium yesterday and it just sits there collecting dust. As a matter of fact I'm at work right now just reading the manual out of boredomI do have the Asus A8N-SLI deluxe board if anyone wants to buy it. I ordered that 2 weeks ago while waiting on the X2 chip. I just recently found out about the premium so I got that instead and now have an extra brand spanking new deluxe board. I know if I return it back to newegg I'm probably loosing $20 to $40;( I'm trying to avoid this.
Captain obvious, are you there?Originally posted by: fatty4ksu

It sounds like you're at step three, which means that there's a darn good chance that you are getting a 4400+ (I don't think they'd charge your card unless they knew for sure that they could send you one of them), but they haven't necessarily put it in the box yet.
