Tankguy, I have been completely impressed with everything I have read from you in this thread. I have to say I have been a newegg guy for several years, but I somehow feel like I know you now and would rather do business with you. Sadly I have already purchased my CPU from newegg, but I am switching from an Intel system so I will need a new board for this rig, what is the best one you keep in stock? I would like to get it from you.

If you want NF4 boards (PCI-express needed) then you will want DFI and I believe tankguy said they didn't carry them.....

Tankguys have the ASUS A8N-E, which is said to be a great board if you don't need SLI. DFI NF4-based boards may be fine, but I had a bad experience on their "support" forum while trying to ask a pre-purchase question, so ASUS got my money instead.

Edit: here is a link (the picture on that link is not what the A8N-E looks like, though).

Thanks for the link, OC DETECTIVE. That list is much more complete than the one on AMD's site.

For anyone looking for an AGP board for the X2, DFI has an NF3 in that list. :) They don't give a bios number, though. It just says "official bios". I'd run that down before ordering.

DFI nf4 is not so good and it's not on amd's offcial x2 support list. Better choose asus, gigabyte or msi.

What is that suppose to mean?
Probably that someone at Newegg didn't have the X2 datasheet handy. Either that, or it's a very confusing reference to cool'n'quiet.

It all depends on what you want to do. If you aren't interested in overclocking and want to just put your components together, turn the system on, and never look at the BIOS settings, you're right, DFI is not for you. OTOH, if you want to be able to tweak every possible setting for maximum performance, you don't mind spending some time on that, and you've got a pretty good idea of what you're doing, then DFI is the clear choice.

I wouldn't worry too much about AMD's official list. It might that AMD is only listing boards that ship with a BIOS that supports the X2. DFI says their current BIOS supports the dual core, and they have no incentive to claim support for a CPU if their board doesn't support it. Doing that would only ruin their reputation and create endless support headaches for them. You will have to flash the BIOS in order to use the second core, but anyone who can't handle a BIOS flash probably won't be interested in the DFI NF4 anyway.

Glad I got in too.
Was worried it might have just kept on taking orders till someone came in this morning.

So I'm glad it has finally popped up as 'out of stock'. Look like those of us who ordered one should get one :)

In regard to motherboards, the Asus A8N-Sli Premium just came out. It replaces the nf4 fan that a lot of folks complain of the noise with a Al heatpipe which drops the nf4 chipset temps 10c lower than with a fan. It also has shown very good oc'ng ability. Several folks that already have the board have been able to get up to 311mhz 1T, so the problem with the A8N-Sli Deluxe not being able to go over 250 w/out going into 2T has been resolved. It's also the first Sli board where Sli can be changed in the bios and not by flipping that card switch on the mobo. A review also just came out on it.
T-Break Review

I got mine yesterday but it just sits on my desk til my X2 comes. :(

edit: It supports the X2 out of the box.

I have one of my sales guys looking up the SLI version and we'll hopefully have it up on the site today.

As far as that "incorrect" picture goes, I'll look into that. We use a lot of stock images (otherwise we have to open 1 of everything we carry, and then we lost 40% on the sale price since it's "open box") and you'd be surprised how hard it is sometimes to find a decent stock image of some of these things! In any case, we'll do some digging around and fix that. Now you know why so many of us retailers have the little "Image is for display purposes only" disclaimer :)

We just secured another supplier of Asus boards yesterday too, so hopefully it will help us pick and choose the best prices, keep more in stock, and expand our selection a bit. Plus, I just got off the phone with the folks over at Mushkin, and we are now a certified reseller, so watch for thier memory to start showing up on our site as well (likely this weekend sometime).

Really, as much as I it seems stupid for me to say good things about the competition, there is nothing wrong with buying from Newegg. Heck, I'll be the first to admit they kill us on prices sometimes. I think it's because they do a lot more volume, but also because they completely gouge on other things (ala the X2's). They have also historically had great customer service too. So if I get out-competed by newegg, it's not something I lose sleep over. It's certainly great when we can compete with them, but for value shoppers who are primarily concerned with a low price, Newegg is going to be thier bread and butter for the most part.

Same, I got the Premium yesterday and it just sits there collecting dust. As a matter of fact I'm at work right now just reading the manual out of boredom:( I do have the Asus A8N-SLI deluxe board if anyone wants to buy it. I ordered that 2 weeks ago while waiting on the X2 chip. I just recently found out about the premium so I got that instead and now have an extra brand spanking new deluxe board. I know if I return it back to newegg I'm probably loosing $20 to $40;( I'm trying to avoid this.

Hi there, I'm continually checking for any updates for that Support Thread.

I have the DFI NF3 board. It just came out, and it is officially supported with all of AMDs newest CPUs, including the X2.

That's fine, please don't think I was trying to pick nits... I just wanted to make sure that those in this thread who would purchase that board from you guys would check out the official specs instead of trying to deduce them from the little picture (which is never a good idea, but I'm guilty of the same). FWIW, the major difference I see is that the A8N-E has the PCI-E 16x slot at the "top" (closest to the CPU), and it also has a 4x slot in place of one of the 1x's. :)

CAn you tell us more about rhe DFI NFORCE3 ultra board? Are the SATA ports locked? What CPU are you using? Does it support X2 out of the box?

Let us know - who did you get it from?

I am going to wait on good stock on the X2s and after the feeding frenzy dies down a bit I will get one since I have two systems that can support that processor.

I think some people are under the influence that the proccessor will not be able to post at all in order for them to flash it, I believe that ASUS's EZFlash utility can flash the bios without the proccessor actually working perfectly (or in case of a bios crash) - Correct me if I'm wrong.

Does the Diamond flash image utility (DFI) have the same/different/better ability to handle weird situations such as this?

Some of us don't have another socket 939 proccessor to flash the bios with before we put the X2 in.

Are you sure?
Captain obvious, are you there?

No one can be "sure" in an absolute sense until they personally have the CPU inserted into the motherboard and are able to power it up with a video card and monitor connected to see if it works. Nevertheless, we can trust that the MB manufacturers get these CPUs some time before we do, and they generally do all right as far as checking compatibility with different components and stuff.

... I'm not sure why I even bothered replying to this nonsense, but whatever.

It sounds like you're at step three, which means that there's a darn good chance that you are getting a 4400+ (I don't think they'd charge your card unless they knew for sure that they could send you one of them), but they haven't necessarily put it in the box yet. See below:
Step 1: Your order has been successfully submitted. Your credit/debit card has not yet been charged. Please allow 1-2 business days for your order to process and ship.

Step 2: Verification and fraud prevention measures are complete. Your credit/debit card has not yet been charged.

Step 3: Your credit/debit card has been successfully charged. Please note that you may no longer make changes to your order.

Step 4: Your order contents are packaged and sealed.

Step 5: Your order has shipped. You may view your tracking information by clicking the applicable "View" link above. Your tracking number(s) will also be sent via email to your Newegg.com login.
