Thanks for the reply, Rafael!

So my system is running stable as mentioned before at 3.02 (430x7) but I get a reboot issue - if I reboot for any reason, like choose restart from Windows, or reboot after an installation, the computer will not post. It just sits there, fans running, on a black screen. If I power down the PSU and start again, sometimes it boots right up, other times I get the BIOS reset... any thoughts on what is going on? Why would it run stable for 2 days and then tell me my overclock failed? Or not boot?

When talking about Orthos stability I am referring to the STOP warning... Orthos has yet to crash my machine, even with bad OC settings... Ia gree, though, Orthos taxes the system more than everyday use stuff.

Scottie you might want to try upping the voltages a bit. For my E6600, I can get it to run 3.4GHz Orthos blend for about 6-8 hours before a crash by setting vcore to 1.5V in BIOS which equates to load voltage of 1.45V due to VDroop (very annoying). My idle temps in AsusProbe are roughly CPU: 36, MB: 34 and load temps roughly CPU: 64 MB: 40, this is with all fans in my case (P180B) on low and a 1200rpm Scythe fan on the Ultra 120 heatsink. TAT reports CPU cores of 53/54 while AsusProbe/Speedfan report 61-64 CPU after running Orthos for hours. The PC does seem to crash after roughly 8 hours of Orthos which I am trying to figure out (not sure if its voltages or RAM timings or what).

At first I was a bit scared of 1.5V Vcore in BIOS (1.45 under load in Windows) but my temperatures under 'normal' load use (e.g. gaming for a few hours) never get the CPU much over 51-53 degrees, only Orthos/TAT can get it over 60.

I'm going to continue tweaking, but for my purposes, if I can run Orthos for more than 6 hours, my system is stable enough and will not crash during my use which is what I care about.

I'm a bit worried about temps when I up the voltages that much, but since you bring it up, may I pick your brain?

My temps currently are around 31 at idle and anywhere from 55-61 at load in orthos... I've found that the different Orthos tests give different temps... the first Orthos test (the first 2 minutes or so) only load to around 55, but the next one goes up to about 60-61 (these are the blend tests). How high can I/should I let it go? I mean, nothing I've done in 'normal' use brings the temps even close to what Orthos gives (even video encoding) - so what should I use as my ceiling? I've heard some say that 60 should be the limit, and yet others say that up to 70 is ok...

for Orthos, which doesn't seem to be indicative of day-to-day use, can I pad my max a bit? If it only peaks during those two tests, should I use an average as a guide? I don't want to ruin anything, but I'm certainly not against taking risks...

Oh, and I should add that summer is coming quick, so that has something to do with my caution...

Thanks again

Hi guys,

I am a n00b when it comes to hardware so I have a question. I have :
1. ASUS P5B Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard
2. CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400 (5-5-5-12/1.9V)

Would my current system support it if I add this:
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory TWIN2X2048-6400C4

which is 4-4-4-12 (2.1V) ? I'd get the same sticks but I heard the CAS 4 is faster than CAS 5? So would P5B Deluxe support this timings and would the current slower sticks play along well with the new faster sticks?

Thanks a bunch!

Yes you can sharir.

You just might have to run the new ram with slower timings.
But you can test it and check if setting manually the timings and voltage of the new ram and see if the old ram will run fine with these settings.
If you have stability problems, then put the timings of the old ram.

And CAS 4 is faster than CAS 5.

New BIOS is out for P5B Deluxe/WiFi

P5B Deluxe Release BIOS 1101
1 Add new uCode to support new CPU.
2 Fix system won't complete POST with GV-MVP/RZ2(TV tuner) connected and power on before motherboard.

I flashed a few hours ago, running fine so far. I haven't noticed a difference yet! Same OC here!

For me, I subscribe to this line of thought. Orthos gets my CPU to peak at 64-66c on the blend test after 3 or 4 hours (it fluxes between 61-66 depending on what test). My normal 'load' of 3D gaming for an hour or two gets the CPU to 51-53 max which is not hot at all, so I am satisfied with it. Unless you load the CPUs 100% 24/7 with some distributed app, it shouldn't be a concern.

Quick question for folks on the network "cards" as it were for the deluxe. I'm using the top jack (labeled 1 on the back panel) which windows is calling local area connection 2. Since I'm just using one jack for now and will be in near future, is there reason to pick one over the other? Any recommendations on drivers or are the ones on the cd ok?

I'm still trying to figure out if the sluggish loads of various web sites is kerio firewall related, network driver related or firefox related (think ive ruled out firefox though).

TIA

Does anyone know a working dual PCI-e display adapter setup for P5B-Deluxe? I have Ati 1950pro and I need to have a third monitor attached, but due Vista's Aero, PCI adapter isn't an option. I haven't found anyone that can say anything for sure. Please help! I have tried x300 but that didn't work for an unknown reason. I don't have money to try something more expensive without knowing that it will work. And just for clarification: I'm not interested in crossfire, just having three Aero capable monitors.

Hi, newb question.

I've got a PC which is about 4 years old, and I want to upgrade to this board.

I only have a IDE c: drive and an IDE CD writer. Will I be able to install this board without a SATA drive? I've got the impression that only SATA drives are supported until you can get all the drivers loaded, or have I misunderstood?

Thanks!

Hello there,

I built a computer recently, using an ASUS P5B Deluxe wifi, Intel P4 641 cedar mill 3.2, and the parts listed below in my sig.

I have it overclocked to 4.267 MHz, x16.0 multiplier, 266 MHz Bus Speed, 1066 MHz Rated FSB.

I have BIOS version 0711, from 9-29-06.

When I'm in the bios, everything is set to manual, but it doesn't show the Modify Ratio Support at all, and it also does not show Vanderpool Technology.

Does anyone else with the 0711 BIOS have this same problem, where Modify Ratio Support, and Vanderpool Technology are not visible at all, in the advanced CPU configuration settings?

Everything is running stable, each memory stick is running at 400 MHZ, at 4-4-4-12, and a 2T command rate.

I'm just wondering why I don't have the additional adjustments of the modify ratio support available. Is this an option that is only for core 2 duo processors?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

hello i just changed my setup from a intel 965 board to a p5bdelux
i've ironed out most problems, but this one is lingering on. calling it a problem isnt right, more of a annoyance
http://s163.photobucket.com/albums/t316...yyab/?action=view&current=Video000.flv

at about 11 secs into the video (i know grainy, keeps size small) i get a screen that says:
"Reseting Boot drive"
"GDrldr loading..."
then a screen with loads of data (Gate A20 ....)
then i finally get my dual boot screen

Is this normal, anyway to get rid of this step and shorten boot time?

also is it possible to disable the jmicron screen (i have a IDE burner thus use it in the IDE mode). the one that displays my IDE burner and tells me to press a key to continue?

I just got a P5B-D and realize that it only takes a 24pin power connector. However my PSU only has a 20pin. Will this work? Thanks.

Hey Guys

I am having boot issues with my new P5B Deluxe board bought at Fry's. This board seems to have an older BIOS, and it won't boot up. It does the double boot if its a cold boot (after disconnecting power), and after that all fans are on, led on board is RED, no startup beep, no post screen etc.

I have tried different RAM in different slots, 1 and 2 sticks (Corsair 6400 2GB Kit, and some DDR2 3200 400MHZ borrowed from work <-- does this RAM work on P5B?), different video card, and I have also unplugged all other peripherals other than Video card and RAM, and the same issue happens with no beep sound and no post screen.

I also did the CMOS jumper reset, with no success, I think I am going to try a stick of PC4200 or PC5400 of DDR2 and if that doesn't help, RMA the board :(.

Please let me know if you have experienced the same issue, and the different things you tried.

Thanks a lot in advance!

SPEC of my new system:
P5B Deluxe
E4300
Geforce 7900GS
2GB Corsair 6400C4 RAM
OCZ PowerStream 520 (this PSU has a 4+4 = 8 pin power adapter for the extra power connector on the P5B Deluxe).

Can anyone confirm whether the Thermalright XP-120 will work on an ASUS P5B Deluxe? I'm building a new system in a desktop case and I'm hoping to use this combination. I'm worried about whether there will be interference between the capacitors and heatsink. It's surprising how few motherboard reviews actually show any heatsink installed. :disgust:

Hey alitayyab,

I can't get my computer to post, how would I flash the BIOS with a jump drive? Will the board post and let me into BIOS if I attached a jump drive with latest BIOS?

Thanks !

@ihotdeals: No it will just update the bios. it's like fixing a corrupt bios, once the procedure is completed (successfully) u can enter the bios
u dont need a display to do a bios flash. use either a flash drive as described or a floppy disk, if u have a fdd!
(if u have a fdd, then u do the same with a floppy! if this works the computer will either reset to a display, or shut down after the update. )

@stromgald: i've used an Asus-Silent Knight and a Thermal Take Big Typhoon. they both fit pretty easily. i guess that's cuz they both rise up like an inverted pyramid, i.e. narrow base, broad top

my old 20pin PSU didn't work. I ended up buying a new Antec 350w with a 24pin connector and it worked fine with my e6420.

After running it for a couple hours I decided to try it at 3.2gb. It ran fine for a hour or so that all the sudden the whole thing just shut down. I couldn't get it to run again. When I tried to turn it on, all fans will try to spin a little bit then stop again so it's like the power supply problem. So I bought another psu but still no go. Is my board toast? I removed everything with only the CPU but still the same. When I oc it, I only set the fsb to 400 and left everything else set to auto. Did I do anything wrong?

Thanks for any input in advance.

actually, now I can get it to power on but no video and I can tell it is doing nothing. The cheap psu may toasted my video card as well?

Have you tried C.P.R.? Meaning shut down the power supply, not just power swtich. It will reset all your system settings to default. Sounds like your OC settings are not right.

Just tried the new BIOS 1101. To my surprise, it fixed one of the biggest problem I have encountered with the P5B-D. With my old 0910 BIOS (same with 1004), my PC won't resume from standby during S3 sleep, if I OC the FSB pass 400MHz. This seems to be a common problem with this board. So my solution (read from somewhere on the net) was to boot at 375MHz FSB and use Clockgen to OC further. But with the 1101 BIOS, the problem is fixed. FYI, I have a E6400 B2 stepping and nVidia 7600GT video card.

I tried C.P.R and still no video. And without video how can I update my bios? Is there a way? I have 1004 currently.

I had to buy a 20 pin to 24 pin power cord adapter. I found it at microcenter and it works great. it also came with an 6 pin to 8 pin (2x4)EATX12V power adapter as well.

Ok what sort of benchmarks are folks with the e6600 running on this board on a Seagate SATAII 400gb system? The HD drive is partitioned into 4 drives. I have it set to IDE in the bios.

Here's the benchmarks using Diskbench.

Comments?? I'm not running raid. How much of an improvement will AHCI help with the speed? I'm not sure if my bios is configured right.
