Hello All,
Built a system for a friend using the Asus P4P800 Deluxe.
Running WIN XP Pro and 4 sticks of Kingston 512meg DDR400 P4 3.0 gig 800MHz FSB.
Well all was great until my friend said"Hey can this puppy overclock?" I said sure.
Well we went for it all and change it to 30% overclocking.
When we boot the speach reporter said that overclocking failed. Reboot and got the same message.
Power down and reboot nothing.
Cleared the CMOS, still nothing.
Did we fry the BIOS?
Is their somthing I missed?
Help!!!
TIA

There are a lot of threads regarding this on the abxforums site. I had the same thing happen to me when I was trying to overclock the board manually to 250MHz FSB. Nothing suggested worked and I had to RMA the board. I am considering buying a spare bios chip so I can get out of similar situation if it recurs!

Some ideas suggested are:

1. Leave the PC with the power cord unplugged for a day and try again.
2. Keep the insert key pressed when powering up.
3. Remove all but one memory sticks and power up.
4. Put the Asus CD in the cd drive and press Right-ALT-F2 when powering up.
5. Replace your memory with a faster (borrowed) RAM
6. Replace your bios chip with someone else's (borrowed) chip and boot into DOS. After bootup, remove the chip, put the old chip back in, and flash the bios.

Hope one of these works. I tried everything but the last two before RMAing my board. Wish Asus figures out a way of better recovery from bad overclocks!

I've read in some of the older threads about not going from bios 1005 to any other without first flashing 1006.

Where can I get 1006 and the dos utility (since the threads say to follow it exactly) to flash it?

I just replaced my mobo with the P4P800 Deluxe and did a clean OS install. I'm running everything at stock speeds and am only using a IDE WD drive. However, after doing windows update, updating the BIOS to 1010, and installing the drivers that came with the CD my computer locks up when it gets to the Windows XP loading screen. The computer freezes and the hd stops. Is this a BIOS problem? If so, which Bios should be the most stable? Thanks.

Well i found the 1006 bios file but not the utility or instructions on how to flash it. From what i read in the previous posts you cannot use Afudos to flash.

Does anyone here have the info or utility to flash it? Thanks in advance...

You need to flash it using the executable file. Might I recommend 1008, which has the same bot sector update as is a better BIOS (a lot of people run it as their best o/c).

Hi, this is my first time posting here and I am need of help. I am a hematologist oncologist in training and with a rigorous work schedule and foolishly decided to build a new computer for the first time and I have hit a road block.

components are new mostly and include:

p4p800 deluxe MB with latest bios 1010 preloaded
kingston 3500 ram 1 gig kit for a 2.4 intel processor in dual channel
ibm and western HD's, dvdrom toshiba and burner by lite on.
radeon 9700 pro video card
windows xp professional

now here is the problem. I assembled everything yesterday and computer loaded just fine, even loaded windows xp and was at the desktop. I then decided to change the hd master slave settings. i have the hd's connected from ide 1 with one master and one slave. THe second ide connects the dvd rom and burner. Anyway after changing the setting I noticed:

-delay at asus mb ai series intro screen
-then the usual via tech screen 9which has allows showed no detection of devices).
-cmos time date error (in instances after clearing the cmos)
-then get a message saying setup is inspecting hardware configuration with very long delay.
-then I get to a windows setup screen and after another long wait I get the choices to format hd, install xp, repair etc. (this is because I have to boot from the windows xp cd otherwise I am stuck at the boot up from bootable source screen)
-I have formated hds, installed just one, installed xp a gizillion times, and persistenly after a xp installation reboot instead of going into xp I get right back to this same cycle. If i dont have the xp disk in it asks for a boot disk
-in the bios everything looks dandy, ide drives are all properally configured.

I dont know what to do, I have a huge grand rounds to preset in three weeks and no computer. I respect you guys that put these things together. I think writing chemotherapy orders for cancer pt's is a lot easier !!!

I thank you in advance for the help you can give a first timer.

I would have to agree. I updated to the 1010 bios and was not even able to boot into XP Pro @ 230 fsb where the 1008 allowed 247 fsb on stock voltage. I have since reflashed back to 1008 using a bootable floppy and then running the .exe which, I believe, is what's recommended when flashing either the 1006 or 1008 bios.

in regard to my post below that headache still exists. Now I have installed successfully just one fresh new hD and I am able to get to windows xp.

however I get this message on start up which says new cpu installed press f1 to run set up or f2 to load default settings.

How can I correct this problem???

Anyone have the problems with artifacts on and FSB 250/1:1 when testing 3DMark03 CPU tests and AquaMark.

I recently switched from Corsair PC3700 Twinmos-1024 to OCZ Gold PC4000 1GB. I couldn't get the FSB to run stable at 250 1:1 with the Corsair but with the OCZ mem I could run Prime 95 for several hours with no errors.

I never the saw the artifacts with the Corsair memory at 233 FSB 1:1.

Any thoughts on why. I am in the process of RMA'g my OCZ for a different pair and bought a 9800 to see f it was the video card with no change. Is there something wrong with the CPU or NB?

Yep :( and I wish I knew why. I have 2 x 256 sticks of OCZ pc3700 Gold and I get artifacts at anything above 220 fsb with my 9800 Pro. It almost seems like the AGP bus speed is being increased when o/c the fsb eventhough I have it locked at 66 mhz. The problem goes away running 5:4 ratio but then my memory's only running at 200 mhz @ 250 mhz. fsb. What's the point of having ram that'll do 466+.

The artifacting issue seems primarily related to a weak Northbridge on some boards. It's actually a fairly common problem. Some people report better NB cooling helps, others not. There's some debate whether the AGP/PCI lock works, but it seems to work OK (though board variability may negate some users' findings). I think it could be heat related to the case cooling (CPU heating up video), but that's purely guess work.

hmmmmm....possibly.
I run liquid cooling in a big Antec SX830 case with an 80mm side window fan, along with the two 80mm exhaust and one 80mm hd fan, blowing accross a Hercules 9800 Pro w/copper ram sinks. I guess all that hot air blowing over that video card right onto the NB dosen't help. I have one of the later boards that has the nb hs mounted parallel to the AGP slot and dosen't completely cover the NB. Any suggestions on a better NB cooling solution?

I found the Thermaltake Tiger to cool the NB. It was originally designed for the 845 chipset but it was the only fan that I could find that used the springs (or whatever they are called) to attach to the board. I think it is a 40 mm fan and runs at ~5500 rpms but I do not know how air it pushes. Maybe not enough if a weak northbridge is causing the artifacts.

Is the weak nrothbridge a common issue with the p4p800? Are there other boards out there that can handle the load?

I don't know if I'd say common. There are a few definite examples and some which are thought to be caused by it (image corruption being an example of the later). What someone said was that NB's that didn't spec for the P4C800 were used for the P4P800. The board arrangement, with the passive HS on the NB, is prone to problems. Another issue is the inability to o/c the 5:4 divider, which again is thought to be NB related. These are just views from threads I've read.

Purchased this board to replace an MSI 655 board that only lasted six months. It came with 1080 bios that appears to work pretty well.

System:

P4 2.4B 533 Mhz
Corsair 2x256 TwinX Ram (3200s)
Maxtor 120GB 8m 7200 HD
Seagate 80GB 8m 7200 HD
4200Ti 64 Meg Video

Was able to use the Recovery feature in Windows XP home edition, so I didn't have to reload the hard drive with programs and all my data. I am not really an overclocker, but was able to use the built in overclock at 20% and boot. Think it was showing about 2.9GHz on the CPU speed. Did a couple Sandra tests, and then set it back to stock.

Only problem I have is that the memory is running in "Linear" mode. Assume based on a couple replies in this thread that it should be running in dual-DDR mode as it did on my SIS655 board. It appears that Corsair memory is a problem on this board for the folks running 800MHz bus, but I was hoping that running at 533MHz I might be able to circumvent this problem. Any suggestions?

Has this board fizzled out. I was gonna buy about 2 month ago when it was hot but now it looks like some owners are complaining. Please comment and put my concerns to ease.

It appears Asus is no longer supporting the board through BIOS updates. Read this:
Asus Guide
Hard to recommend the board, given this.

To see if you're running dual channel memory, run the utility CPU-Z.

I tried CPU-z, it said I was running dual-channel, and now my boot bios says "dual-channel, linear mode" and not just "linear mode" at POST. Wierd...

Hi all,

I've just recently bought an Asus P4P800 Deluxe and have been very happy with the board except for one small problem. I have installed 2 x 80GB Seagate SATA hard drives and set them up in Raid 0 (as the boot drives) via the Intel onboard Raid. I have also installed my old 60GB Seagate PATA drive into the system on the Primary IDE connector. However when I do this the system will not boot. It will post but when it comes time for Windows XP Pro to load I receive the blue screen which tells me that my system has been shut down to prevent damage to it. I have attempted to reinstall Windows however after it begins installation and is about to bring up the Destination Drive screen when the system crashes and I receive an error code with a whole bunch of jibberish.

I have tried placing the drive on the Secondary IDE connector, removing and swapping positions with my DVD-ROM and CD-RW, setting the drive to Master and Slave, disabling the SATA Raid and running the SATA as separate drives, testing a different PATA drive which has been formatted and in not active....whenever I install a PATA drive onto either the Primary or Secondary IDE connectors the system will not boot or install Windows.

The only way I have found to get around this is to install the drive onto the onboard VIA IDE Raid and it works fine. However I would like be able to install the drive onto the Primary IDE. Has anyone else encountered this problem or have any suggestions?

System Setup:
Asus P4P800 Deluxe (PCB Rev. 2.0, Bios Rev. 1010)
Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz (800FSB)
2 x 256MB Kingmax DDR400 (Dual Channel)
2 x 80GB Seagate SATA Hard Drives (Raid 0 - Intel ICH5R)
1 x 60GB Seagate PATA Hard Drive
64MB Ge-Force Ti4200
DVD-ROM & CD-RW
Enermax 350W Power Supply

Any help would be much appreciated.

Yeah, I had the same problem with a single S-ATA drive, and I believe others are having the same issue. With me it was addressing errors, not BSOD. The problem is that whatever you place on the primary P-ATA channel will be addressed as the C: drive. The only suggestion I could make is to install an OS on your P-ATA drive then install to your RAID from within that OS. It will address you S-ATA channels after the primary P-ATA channels, but at least you'll be able to use the primary P-ATA channel. I just leave it unpopulated; you need a total of 8 drives before you'd run out of room anyways, so unless you have some sort of server case it won't be an issue.

Hi,

I consider buying the P4P800 and after reading here a bit on the forum there are some things that confuse me that I would like understand once and for all:

1/ is it true that Asus is not going to update the BIOS for the P4P800 and P4P800 Deluxe anymore? If so, why?!

2/ What's this thing about people saying all the time that if you have BIOS 1005, you first have to go to 1006 or something before going to a newer BIOS. I thought if you flashed the BIOS the previous version was always completely replaced, so why would you first have to go to 1006 before going to a newer one?

3/ What's considered the best BIOS version right now? Also, if you simply use standard DDR400 and don't overclock, won't you have any problems then with BIOS, etc..?!

I really hope somebody could clarify all this once and for all. I just want a P4P800 using standard DDR400 sticks. Won't that simply work?! Why all these problems with BIOS, etc.. I read?!

Thanks in advance for all good feedback!!

I have a couple of questions.
From what I'm reading, it's currently impossible to set up a SATA raid (mirroring for me) configuration, and have it boot off of that configuration if you have pata drives in the system?

I currently have (all older pata drives) 2 60gbs on a 3ware 6200 raid card and then a 100gb, and 120gb sitting on the internal controller.
If I can get the drives to boot on the SATA will I find it slower or faster than my current raid setup?

Anyone know? Far as I understand it ASUS has no real technical support at all so they're no help. :(
