I try to install XP On the RAID 0 and it goes ok until it tries to startup from the drive for the final phase of the install. Then I get something that says Windows cannot start because it couldn't read the selected boot disk.

What the heck do i do?

WHat do you think the chances are of a free swap for the new version which supports Prescott?

Now says something about New Power design supports Future Prescott Processors. I suspect that is a new revision. However, would you get a PAT enabled model?

and on a side note, why do i have a 1394 device listed under 'network adapters"

1. Is the USB device the only one which has a conflict? Does it say what the conflict is. You should be able to view devices by IRQs, etc to see what is conflicting and see if it points you in the right direction.

2. 1394 device network adapter is to enable networking two PCs using their firewire ports.

I just put together a P4P800 Deluxe with a Radeon 9700. When I boot I get the audible "System Failed VGA Test" and my monitor doesn't come out of sleep mode. However, if I hit the reset button, the system the monitor comes on and everything works fine.

I am using Windows XP Pro. I have a separate power cable going to the card. I have updated the BIOS and the drivers. HELP!

Does anybody have a comparison between the P4P800 Deluxe and the regular P4P800? It's for my Father in law so he may not need all the bells and whistles...

Deluxe vs Non-Deluxe differences: Firewire, PATA-IDE Raid from Via controller, and perhaps AI Bios (auto-recover feature).... not sure if that's in the non-deluxe.

Crash-free BIOS recovery is in the non-deluxe.

I believe all P4P800's support the first version of Prescott which is Socket 478 at 3.4GHz I believe, coming out in the early fall. The future versions are another standard (more pins but lower voltage I think? Can't remember) and thus will require a new mainboard.

Anyone know what is new in the 1009 beta BIOS? I see 1009.003 is out on the German ftp.

Did you try the AsusUpdate tool? It flashes your BIOS within windows. You won't need a floppy or CD to update BIOS.

My P4P800 Deluxe came with the 1.005 BIOS. All my flashes to 1.006, 1.007, 1.008 and 1.009 were done with the AsusUpdate.

I'm having some trouble with a P4P800 Deluxe and a Radeon 9700 Pro. Whenever I try to run the 3dmark 2003 benchmanrk, the airplane game starts, and then my computer crashes and i have to reboot. In the P4P800 manual, it says that you shouldnt use the mobo with radeon 9500 or 9700 unless they are above revision PN xxx-xxxxx-30. Mine is revision 11. I'm thinking this may be the problem. I also read somewhere that the P4C800 has the same problems with the Radeon 9500/9700. I'm thinking of just getting a Radeon 9800 Pro, but this would cost me about $100 (after I return the 9700) so I want to make sure that this is indeed the problem. Any ideas?

I told my father-in-law to go ahead and get the Deluxe version for $16 it seems well worth it. Now to get this hog up and running!

I had this problem too (freezes in the first game test) even though the part no. I have is 30 for my R9700PRO. I fixed this by updating to build 330 for 3Dmark03. The reason why it kept freezing is because I had DirectX 9.0a installed, and the version of 3DMark03 I use is the very first release that only supports DirectX 9.0. Build 320 and up supports DirectX 9.0a, I hope this helps.

Worked fine, zero problems.

I'm receibing my ASUS P4P800 Deluxe + P4 2.4c + Kingston 1Gb PC3500 + Gigacube ATI 9600Pro 128Mb today.

I was planning on following order (out of my head):

a) Windows XP Professional
b) Windows XP SP1a
c) ASUS Driver: 3com Gigabit LOM (3C940) WHQL Driver V1.00.00.0044
d) ASUS Driver: SoundMAX Audio Driver version 5.12.01.3630 WHQL driver
e) ASUS Driver: VIA RAID driver V1.20 for Windows 95/98/NT40/ME/2000/XP
f) Gigacube ATI Drivers
g) DirectX 9.0
h) Windows Update

My questions are:

[1] Should this order be trouble-free? Would you change anything?

[2] I don't plan to use righ now the Raid Functionality of the Board, should I install the driver? I shouldn't bring any problem if I don't really use Raid set of drives, right?

[3] In the quote above I read "Install Intel INF". Do I need to install it? Do I have to download from intel's site? Shouldn't ASUS put all drivers available in their own site? I'm a bit confused since I ran into the utility "Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility V5.00.1012" on ASUS download page.

[4] Will Windows XP Pro detect and run USB 2.0 by his own?

[5] Should I install the graphic driver that come with the Gigacube, or should I download the lattest catalist from ATI site?

(Edit for some more questions :))

[6] ASUS BIOS: should I update them one-by-one, or can I just update to the last one and be ok? (I heard some problems with old bios updates, not know exactly what, something about passing through 1006, but the problem related to this should be overpassed by now, right? Also I don't know which bios the board will come with, but I presume it will have at least 1007).

[7] I saw some recomendation on ASUS download page, related to BIOS 1008. Can I use this method to upgrade from ANY version?:
1. Do not use Aflash.exe / EZflash /Afudos.exe to update BIOSV1006
2. Extract all the files into the floppy disk, and simply run P4P1006.exe under DOS mode, the BIOS update will execute automatically. Please refer to the readme file included in the zipped file for the details of BIOS update procedure.

Thanks

I installed the BIOD 1008 without any problem and all seems ok.
Just run P4P1008.exe under DOS, dont use Aflash.exe / EZflash /Afudos.exe.
(the info on the web seems not updated, since they sayd P4P1006.exe)

About the ATI drivers I prefer the latest Catalyst 3.5 from ATI. The installation order:

1) Install DirectX 9.0a
2) Install ATI Catalyst 3.5 drivers.

When you say under DOS, you mean really making a boot disk with all stuff inside, right?

Then it should be better to flash BIOS before anything, even the OS, right?

(so many rights, right? eheh ;))

Yes, the best is to update the bios before anything.
Although I updated it after installing the OS :)

Oops, empty post.

Anyway, omyek, if you haven't solved your problem here is what you need to do. Just go out to the Asus website and download the usb2.0 drivers for your board (and sometimes operating system as they have windowsxp specific drivers for the usb2.0 driver). Then unzip the downloaded driver to a folder. Next, go to the usb device that has the yellow exclamation on it and go to its properties. Click update driver and when it comes up looking for a driver, browse to the folder where you expanded the usb2.0 driver. The 'ok' button should turn black when you are in the correct place. Hit ok and you are good to go. Mine came up yellow exclamation when I installed XP. This took care of it. You might also be able to go out to windows auto update to see if it will have the driver out there and auto install it for you. But if you do it yourself you will know for sure you have the latest one.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply... I am using DirectX 9.0a as well, but I just ran the 3DMark03 update (it was build 320, now it's 330) and the test still crashes. Do you think there's any other explanation? Or maybe the revision number issue is the cause? (my power supply is 430W, and I'm using Corsair XMS 3200LL ram)

Are you sure the PC3200LL modules are running their speeds ok ? Did you try memtest or goldmemory tests on it ?

I made the plane demo crash my PC a few times this weekend when playing with overclocking my new 9600 Pro.... backing the overclock about 5-10 MHz fixed that.

Rig: P4P800 Deluxe, 2.8C, 512 mb stick of XMS PC3200LL (2-3-2-5-8bank at 2.65v), Enermax 365-FCA... other stuff

My memory is running just fine... I have MAM and turbo mode off, and the timings are at 2/2/3/5 (though I am prolly gunna change this to 2/2/3/6). This is at 2.75 V by the way (I read that higher voltage = more stable, but I didn't wanna go over Corsair's 2.8V recommendation). I have found that I get better Sandra memory bandwidth benchmarks with MAM off. Right now Im getting above 4800. When I get home (I'm at work right now) I think I'll try changing my AGP aperture to 256 MB from 128 MB. Also... I'm not OCing anything at the moment.

*edit* I forgot to mention that with the 2/2/3/5 timings, I ran memtest86 and got zero errors with 3 passes.

Important note on beta bios 1009.003 for onboard Via RAID users:

To start off, I am running Windows XP on a RAID-0 drive (two harddrives as one) using the onboard Via Raid on my P4P800 Deluxe. If you are running Windows off this controller and are thinking about flashing to the beta 1009.3 bios, I recommend you read this as a heads-up...

I just flashed to the new bios 1009 revision 3. I was using 1008 before. I had already updated my Windows Via Raid drivers to 1.20 (but that is seperate from the bios raid version which was still at 1.12 with my bios at 1008).

The differences between 1009.003 and 1008 among other changes is that 1009.003 contains the newer Via Raid bios.

1009.003 = Via raid bios 1.20
1008 final = Via raid bios 1.12

I thought this was all good and fun until windows didnt recognize my raid array as a drive anymore. It gave me a few lines of error on bootup and just sat there. After a few moments of calm, thoughtful pondering I decided to flash back to 1008 and praise the lords that everything would be fine again. And to my great relief, it was back to working.

So the moral of this story is: Flashing to 1009.003 could very likely leave you bootless if you are running Windows off your RAID drive.

I really wanted that 1.20 via raid bios too :\ hopefully they can make it work in later patches so I dont have to re-install Windows from scratch.
