make sure everything is clicked or plugged in properly..

one ram stick half stuck in.. one cord not plugged in all the way.. could always cause your pc to act a fool..

I once had a friend have me come over because he couldnt play wow his pc was "acting up"..

I go over there.. He had a boot disk in his floppy drive.. I took it out of his floppy drive.. chastised him for being stupid and I made him pay me for his being so stupid.. started his computer up with no problems without the boot disk in it.. he works in IT *shake my head in disbelief*

the moral of the story is.. go over everything with a very fine tooth comb.. you are the Rock.. Lay the smack down on making sure everything is connected properly..

also could be a bad ram stick..

I would highly recommend the M2N-E big brother the M2N-SLI Deluxe..

The price has dropped quite a bit.. I remember when this board was almost 200 bux..

newegg for.. $134.99 plus 6.61 shipping..

dual gigabit lan.. external sata.. sli.. if you ever feel like goofing with it you have the option..

I am going to buy a couple of these and put one of them up in my closet..

next upgrade for me..
 
I recommend the M3A if you don't need SLI. The M3A is way better than the M2N-E and it's a few $ cheaper too.

ten bux cheaper and the cooling solution for the chipset is beyond weak it is crap.. I would get an asus m2n sli deluxe.. for the dual gigabit lan.. the nice copper chipset cooling and the other goodies it comes with.. kickass board love building rigs with it..
 
long story short my m2n sli burnt out and there was an open boxed m2ne from newegg for 80bucks.

this is an annoying motherboard.
to overclock successfully(once you've updated to 1202 bios)
turn off virtulization
turn off live
turn off peg
add +.1 to your vcore voltages

for instance if you think 1.3 in your bios is enough, it'll be 1.2 or at least thats what cpuz and speed fan see

so if your not hanging up just keep adding voltage to vcore i have it at 1.475 now but cpuz 1.31

this board overclocks as well as my previous m2n sli, which i think was easier had it not been for these wierd vcore readings

amd3600+ 1.9ghz overclocked 2.7

i got 2.9 on my previous board but these vcore readings are so annoying i'll just live with the 2.7

otherwise if i didn't do all those options i mentioned in the beginning i couldn't get past 2.4
 
I was wondering about that too. I thought CPU-Z kept on reading the vcore wrong, but I guess I'll give it a bit more voltage and see what happens. I can definitly use the extra 300Mhz.
 
Here's my (so far) bad experience with this board...
To make a long story short - Vista won't install on an M2N-E; it loads the files and goes to the green bar loading screen for a few seconds, then a BSOD appears with IRQL_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL or something similar. Tried to play with the RAM voltage but that didn't help. I still think that the RAM has something to do with it, or maybe it's a BIOS setting. If anybody has installed Vista on the M2N-E and had any tips or tricks, that would be great too. Thanks!

Try loosening the timings on your RAM. Did you also try running it with just one stick of RAM and running them at slower speeds? That's the only thing I can think of right now.
 
People, i advise you not to do the update. at least not with asusupdate. it will not verify, close off, and then leave you with a bad bios. When and if you get the system back running and try to flash it back to the old bios (crashfree something right... sigh) the flashing goes well (boot in bios and then awflash) but when you boot... bios dead.

Seriously. Doesn't show anything on screen, no beeps and nothing works. Battery/jumper reset even doesn't do anything.

i have this board and a problem with it or the PSU can anyone help

Yesterday evening my PC turned its self off, i dont know how or why. At forst i thought a virus or Hard drive

failure but it seems its not either. this coinsided with my net connection cutting of at the same time.

now i cannot turn the PC on with the case power switch and have to use the switch on the PSU which is not good.

When i shutdown windows it doesnt turn the PSU off it shuts down as windows normally would but the PSU remains on

with fans spinning and again i have to use PSU switch to turn it off. Also the PC wouldnt stay on for very long a

while a ago it would just sorta go into a black screen mode with the PSU still on this seems to be ok now after i

tweeked about with settings here and there in the BIOS.

At this point it seems a PSU or motherboard fault can you help?
 
That can be a result of a power grid surge. If your PSU doesn't have adequate active/passive filters for this kind of electricity failures then chances are that you'll need a new one. If you're unlucky, then you'll need a new motherboard. In case of very bad karma other parts of your PC might have been fried.

I don't relly know any kind of fast test to determine the extent of the damage (or even that there is some damage) but a stress test with switched components will eventually get you somewhere.

Let's hope for the best 🙂

Yeah seems it was the PSU as an old one i have when used doenst behave like the current one. PC parts seem ok apart from PSU luckily

 
Hey, this is my first post. Can someone please help give a tutorial on how to OC on this board. I wanna learn to OC. I've read forums on OCing, but it doesn't make sense to me, cause they're using different boards. All help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
 
I'm having trouble with my dual-channel RAM when ECC is enabled on the M2N-E. I have 2 matched sticks of Crucial CT25672AA667 (unbuffered ECC CL 5 667) and everything is fine when ECC is turned off in the BIOS (1304). I can put both 2G sticks in the yellow slots and memtest+ runs fine. However, when I turn on ECC in the BIOS, I get tons of memtest+ errors in addition to random hangs at boot and during memtest+. If I put each stick in one at time, memtest works fine when ECC is on. Each stick works fine by itself in either of the yellow slots, just not both at the same time. The CPU is an Athlon 64 X2 4800+ and all the BIOS settings are at the defaults (5-5-5-15-2T). Unlike most others here, I'm looking for stability, not necessarily performance. Any ideas? Thanks.
 
Problem solved! When I changed the tRFC value from Auto to 4, I could boot and pass memtest86 with ECC mode enabled and both sticks installed. I talked to a support guy at Asus and he said the reason why no 2 GB sticks were in the QVL was that they didn't exist when the board was put out and they don't bother updating. He also said that Crucial should have a board that they use to qualify their RAM on.

So, I tried Crucial's live chat and got a clueless but polite rep who offered to exchange my RAM. I asked if they had detailed timing information from their tests with the M2N-E but she said she didn't have that information. I pointed out that I didn't want to be down for days while I mail my RAM back and wait for the new ones so she offered to send the new ones out right away and hold a charge on my CC until the old ones came back. However, as I suspected, the memory isn't bad, it's just a BIOS bug of some sort. Enabling the ECC mode (and the associated 9th chip on each stick) must require slightly different refresh rates than non-ECC mode.

Here's a question: what do the values in tRFC mean? The only values are Auto, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4.
 
Oh, and one more thing: I had to upgrade to the 1304 BIOS as the 1202 wouldn't work at all in ECC mode, even with a single stick. I think the units of tRFC are multiples of tRC. So in my case, tRC = 19 and with a clock of 3 ns, so tRFC = 4 * 19 * 3 = 228 ns. The spec sheet for the Micron chips on my RAM says the valid range for tRFC is 197.5 to 70000 ns for a 2 GB stick. I assume the "Auto" value was picking 3 for tRFC in the BIOS which works out to 171 ns, just outside the valid range for a 2 GB stick. Maybe it was just on the edge and enabling ECC made the out-of-spec timing setting fail. In any event, there is a problem with the 1304 BIOS for this particular RAM.

Hey there, new to the forums. I'm trying to get the USB pins and whatnot plugged into the motherboard but the labels on the pins and motherboard are completely different. I was hoping someone here would be able to help. The case is a NZXT Trinity. I whipped up a l'il diagram to make it easier for people to help, heh.

The "Other Pins" is what's written on the wires that are from my case. I had my friend install everything but I'm trying to learn so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
 
Just my two cents here:

I too wish I had seen this thread before I bought this.

However, I did pinpoint my problem to the onboard USB controller. I have a Belkin PCI controller installed already, so when I tried to copy data from my hard drive to my USB drive it kept doing the random reboot. It would reboot every time I tired to copy a large amount of data. It didn't matter if I used the onboard USB or the PCI USB.

After disabling the onbard USB, and just using the PCI controller, I haven't run into the problem yet. I copied 100gb+ to the USB drive with no problem.

I re-enabled the onboard USB and after 5-10gb the reboot started again.

So for me if I disable the onboard USB the MB works fine. Either a bad board or bad engineering/manufacturing.

I've only had the board for 2 weeks, so I'm hoping that the store will give me credit and let me exchange if for a diffrent brand.

Like many, I've had memory woes with this board. The first RAM kit I tried, a Patriot 2x2GB matched pair of 800MHz RAM, failed miserably, despite extensive tweaking of the BIOS as recommended here and elsewhere, as well as a BIOS upgrade to 1304. Surprisingly, each module by itself passed the memtest86 tests with flying colors; only when they were paired together did I have problems (yellow or black DIMM slots didn't matter, tried both).

So, I swapped the Patriots out for some generic Crucial RAM, 667MHz. Same issues as before: Singly, they worked well. Paired up, memory tests failed at the start.

While messing with the DRAM settings I must have fat-fingered something, and the computer would no longer boot. Thoroughly frustrated, I cleared the NVRAM using the jumper.

Lo and behold, the memory is working great. Slow, it seems, but great.

Fortunately, I only plan on using this box for MythTV, so my PVR card will carry most of the processing load. Still, I thought I'd toss this out here, as I've not seen anyone suggest clearing the NVRAM as a solution to the problem. Unfortunately, I no longer have the Patriot memory, but it would be interesting if someone were to test this out.

I have had the board since June of 07 and started out with 2x1g sticks of G-Skill without a problem. I later added more 2x512m sticks of G-Skill (same timings) and it's been perfectly stable. I have managed a mild OC but with the 5600 there's not a lot of headroom so I won't blame the board. Overall it it has been perfectly solid with all 4 slots filled and still running dual channel.

first post here. I was just wondering which bios version i would need for a x2 5000+ black edition. I would like to use the unlocked multiplier, and i hear that i would need a new bios for that. I've read that a lot of ppl have fried their mobo while updating bios however, so i dont wanna update for no reason. My current bios version is 0502.

Also if i need to update, how do i do that? I dl/ed the 1202 version, but its just a bin and an exe that doesnt do anything.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Go to the BIOS, then look for EZ Flash 2. Use that utility to flash your BIOS.
