Are you hooking the 160GB up to the Promise controller? If you do, you need to install the Promise drivers so it will be recognized in Windows as 160GB.

Okay, maybe it's just a question.

I have a 74GB Raptor & a 250GB Maxtor SATA. I want to use VIA. IS it possible to put them both on the VIA chipset instead of the promise sata. They're both SATA drives. I've got all the drivers on floppies anyways. Tell me if I can put those 2 drives in the VIA slots. Also, do I have to put it in order?? Thanks.

It doesn't matter. Just install the windows drivers first, and then shutdown and plug the drives in.

Yeah i was hooking the drive up to the promise PCI card. All the drivers were installed already though-- the system was detecting the drive just fine. I finally ripped out the Promise PCI card because i was starting to get corruption on BOTH 160 gig drives (and one of them started developing bad sectors), and a 40 gig drive started getting data corruption today as well. I'm thinking it could possibly be the PSU, but i ripped the promise card out anyway. Don't want to take any more chances. The SATA Raptor drive uses way more power and it's fine.

Anyone having problems getting the Marvell GB LAN on the SE Deluxe working? I installed the drivers, but Win XP always says cable is unplugged even though the cable is plugged in. The LAN light on my router also does not turn on. I tried a different cable but it didn't fix the problem. I didn't have any problems with the integrated ethernet on my NF7.

I'm having the same Problem and My computer is also crashing when I try to use the on-board Lan
and sometimes when I load the driver.I have a pci gigibit ethernet card and it works fine but I get no indication that the on-board lan works at all.I've enabled it in the bios and I get the ol unplugged connection staus in the tray but not working at all. Anyone have a solution?

Just a word of caution: BEWARE of updating your BIOS on the K8V using Easyflash! Don't believ on their crap about having a "Crash free BIOS". Last weekend i built a k8V + AMD 64 3000+. Installed Win XP Pro fresh and updated with SP1. Since the manual said that updating the BIOS was a breeze, I decided to give it a shot. Followed the manual and used Easyflash. THE UPDATE FAILED! F***!!!!!! I rebooted the computer and it did not even post it! I could not re-load the BIOS from the CD-Rom. I was really pissed! I thought that a BIOS update was fail proof but it seems that it is not! I had to bring back the computer to the store and they will take the BIOS chip out, flash it and put it back. If it doesn't work I gotta buy a new MB. I think that the old saying is still true: if it ain't broken, don't change it.

I've used it twice and it's flashed fine for me

You can only set the ram ratio to ddr400 manually.You can set to be automatic and maybe it will run at 500(i dunno).There is no manual setting for ddr500 on this MB though.

i finally got it working because i found out i put the processor in teh wrong way..... well anyway one pin was bent and i got it straightened out and it works but wen i turn on my computer, it says that BIOS not installed. wat to do?

Hi, I am interested in purchasing the K8V-SE-Deluxe. I have a few questions:

0. In general, is this a good board to buy into? Or should I just get a
socket A? I want a Mobo/CPU/RAM that is cost effective. What Mobo/CPU/RAM
would be suggested? I like the K8V because it seems to be able to attach 6 x
IDE/ATA devices + 4 x SATA.

1. should i purchase this board this time in the market? Should i wait? I
know they are moving across to socket 939/940 and the 754 seems to be a
limited form factor. I dont want to spend money on the 954 and later realise
i made a mistake and should have waited. But i guess everything moves fast
in the pc market. You can wait all your life. Anytime is a good time to get
in based on that premise?

2. I was interested in purchasing 1 x 512MB DDRRAM A-Data PC4000 500MHz.
Wouldnt this cause problems on the K8V since that mainboard is only rated to
PC3200, not PC4000 ? What RAM is recommended? Yes I might possibly like to
overclock.

3. Is this board good for overclocking?

4. Also where can i check up on the latest revision of this mainboard? I
don't want to be caught out in purchasing an old revision when a new one is
out.

well.. u only get socket a for other athlons. not athlon 64s. 939 is for 64 fx's. so first u gotta decide on proccessor. pc-4000 probably will work, but some quality name brand will work better.duh!to name a few: kingston, crucial, and corsair. dotn know bout overclocking abilities. i believe teh latest revision is 1.13 and u can prolly check it on asus.com(i think thats teh site).=D

Voirin, here is the answers to all your questions but remember: it is only good advice if you take it.

0. Personally, I do not think this is a good board to buy. I got it with a bundle for dirt cheap which is the only reason why I have it. It uses a VIA chipset which in general gives lower performance and a LOT more headache. As far as being able to attach 6xIDE & 4XSATA, I believe the MSI K8N Neo Platinum allows the same amount and is based on the MUCH better nForce3 chipset.

1. Socket 939 is true option. You WILL spend more on a 939 board and a 939 processor, but in my opinion if you are buying new hardware you want to be as close to on top of technology as you can within reason & budget. You can get a good 939 board (MSI makes an excellent one as well with the nForce3 chipset) and 939 processor for not too hefty of a price. For instance, MSI K8N Neo Platinum for ~$130USD and Athlon 64 3200+ (1MB L2 Cache) for ~$214. On the socket 939 side, MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum for ~$180 and Athlon 64 3500+ for ~$350. If you have it in the budget, go socket 939. You are closer to the current level of technology and therefore will be able to upgrade for a longer period of time. You also are able to use dual-channel RAM on the socket 939 boards in addition to other performance enhancing features.

2. Pretty much all boards will come rated at DDR400, because that is the only "standard" accepted for use on them. However, given the high "FSB" speed of the A64's and the tendency of people to OC them, high speed memory is a must. ADATA PC-4000 will work, but depending on how you want to overclock, you cannot beat Corsair, OCZ, or Crucial for some high-speed, high OC'ing memory. As always, you will pay more but you DO get what you pay for.

3. The K8V is HORRIBLE at overclocking. If you buy this board, don't even bother. That said, the other MSI boards mentioned are superb OCers. If you ARE looking at overclocking your system, remember that for it to truly be successful and worthwhile, you must use high quality components in everything. This means CPU, mobo, MEM, and most overlooked POWER SUPPLY. Cheap power supplies mean little to no OCing and more system instability in the first place. Personally I recommend Antec, Vantec, or OCZ for PSU's.

4. As far as the latest revision goes, dunno. Order and hope. If its not the latest, RMA it and see then. You might call whoever you are puchasing the board from and see if they have that info available, but generally you cannot ascertain that from a website.

I hope this answers your questions and I also hope you choose not to buy this board. Sure, its okay for a basic system. But given the number of problems you are bound to have right out of the box, the lack of OCing ability, and general crappiness of VIA chipsets, I really hope you go for any kind of nForce3 chipset. Check out AT's latest motherboard reviews and you will see how the MSI nForce3 boards lead the charts. Good luck and let us know if you have any questions

NOTE: Even though I got this board for practically free with a sweet EPP bundle, I plan on purchasing the MSI at some point in the near future if that tells you anything about this crap board.

One valuable fact that I found recently, that I would have loved to have know before building my own system, is that A64 chips require at least 18amps on the 12V rail of the power supply. The one that came with my case only produces 13 and I couldnt' figure out what was wrong for the longest time. Just because I had a 420W power supply before, it didn't have nearly enough amps going to the mobo to fire up the processor.

Everybody always says never use the stock power supply that comes with your case and they are absoultely right.

I just received my Asus and 3200+ bundle v1.12. I noticed the heatsink fan is pointing down to blow on the heatsink, instead of sucking hot air away. Anyone else notice this? Also I'm probably going to "lap" my heatsink. The bottom isn't as smooth as I want it.

Has anyone else lapped the heatsink?

That's odd, I'm using a Fortron 300W right now that only has 15A on the 12V rail. It's powering 3 optical drives, 2 7200rpm HDD, Radeon 9800Pro, and 2 case fans. I don't have any stability issues.

MrCoyote, most HSF blows down towards the heatsink. I think that the better ones, Thermalright, Swiftech, etc.., blow away from the heatsink.

Hi, I just got this board from fs/ft.. I'm trying to install the zalman 7000a cooler on it, but it looks as if the stock heatsink retention bracket is attached to the motherboard.. I've searched, and it seems as if people have been able to use this mobo/hsf combination. Are there any tips as to how to remove the stock bracket? Any help would be greatly appreciated.. thanks!

Hi. I recently built a system with an asus k8v se delux. It works pretty good overall but theres one thing thats bothering me... A noise comes from the mb every time I play a sound(mp3, wav, etc). The noise isnt that bad when I use the onboard sound, but its really high pitched and annoying when I use a pci sound card. I've tested this with three different sound cards (sb live value, c-media 8738, and an old yamaha pci). And I also know its not coming from another piece of hardware (in case you were wondering).

I was wondering if this noise is common on the k8v. If its not, I'll probably RMA it and get a replacement. Thanks.

I use a PCI sound card in my K8V and I don't have any problem. Have you tried turning off the onboard sound in the BIOS?

Yes, I diabled the onboard sound when I installed the pci sound cards.

just installed sp2 but my computer keeps restarting. Does anybody else has the same problem? Is it my other parts, ie gcard, memory, etc or is this quite the major problem with this combo/

samsamha, where does it restart? Before windows? After loading windows? this board is notoriously picky about settings so it could be a ton of things. Mine, for example, would constantly restart about the point where windows should be loading because i had a certain hard drive in a certain location. No idea why that would cause restarts, but it did.

it's after loading into windows. After it has passed the "welcome screen" and load the softwares, I can hear my scanner is being loaded but then suddenly it will just restart. Looks like a driver conflict or something. I have reinstalled my windows and now it works fine. Well see what happens after I fnish loading all the softwares.

I have the exact same setup on the way from newegg and was wondering what to do. After some Googling I found the following:

It mentions that the nipples that come with the A version are about 4 mm too tall and that the non-A version should be used. Luckily I was able to change my order from SVC.com - hope you can do the same.

As for removing the stock plate, it appears that it's as simple as removing the two screws that hold it in place. Hope that helps,
