I have an A8N deluxe rev1.02 and I'm waiting on a 3500 Venice core chip. Asus has stated that support for the Venice core is in bios 107. My question is will I be able to flash the bios with my 3500 Venice core chip installed? I know how to flash just don't know if I will run into problems on boot up with an early bios. Can any one help?

Just want to to what IRQ is your display card and ACPI using.

I am doubtful that they may be clashing in my machine.

mine boots at 9 for acpi, both my cards vary not sure what they are. Did you install windows with acpi turned on in the bios, windows determines then if you will be able to use it, I just tried to disable(acpi in the bios) it and my puter will not even make it to windows after the raid checks out. Its always been on so I never tried before. So my geuess is if you did not have it on when you first installed it won't work after that point, they say that APM will show up on the tabs as well, which it does not on mine. check google "acpi tab not working" then click microsofts site. here is one part of it
""
If you are not sure whether your computer is ACPI?compliant, check your manufacturer's documentation. To change power settings that take advantage of ACPI, use Power Options in Control Panel. During Windows Setup, ACPI is installed only if all components present during Setup support power management. Some components, especially older components, may not support power management and can cause erratic behavior with Advanced Power Management (APM), or may prevent ACPI from being installed. Examples of such components are Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) components and an out-of-date BIOS.

According to some sites I have zoomed thru and the settings in the bios it might not be compatible with hibernate, I turned it on twos days ago to see, but have not used it yet.

standby does have some issues with 1004 bios but it supposed to be fixed in the 1006/1007 bios. This I have used(standby) and have a few minor problems with but nothing to right home about.

hope this helps,

I had been browsing looking for similar problems but I found nothing.

My "big" problem is over, I formatted system hard disk and every thing is stable again, with video and cpu OC, but I still having the fuc..ing "shake" problem

Well If you know something else please let me now

Thank you for your help and sorry for my english :/

Did you try the program I mentioned called Refresh lock for your CRT? I can't speak much for LCD's since I have yet to own one, but for CRT's I know for a fact that WinXP defaults to 60HZ, unless you force it higher, no matter the res. The shake on CRT is a refresh issue. Please list what you have and have not tried, or we can't help you fix your problem.

slow down proof read, please respond with a clearer question, please post all system componets please also, include model #'s if possible.

In the mean time make sure all your power connectors do you have the main power cable plugged in correctly(24 pin) is the processor seated correctly.

Ok, I've been fighting this problem for a few weeks now, and think I need some help. I've built many a system, but never one that gave me so many problems. Such is life with an A8N-SLI Deluxe I guess.

Here is my Setup:

A8N-SLI Deluxe Mobo
(Flashed to 1006, using nForce WHQL 6.53 drivers)
Athlon 64 3500 (Newcastle 130nm/512k L2)
1xBFG GeForce 6800GT OC (not using SLI)
(using WHQL ForceWare 71.89 drivers)
Kingston 1GB PC3200(2x512) Matched Pair
Antec TRUE 430Watt Power Supply
(26a on the 12v Rail with 20pin Connector)
2x250gig Maxstor's with 16meg Cache (ATA)
Plextor PX-716A DVD±RW (ATA)
LiteOn CD-RW (ATA)
3x80mm Case Fans
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS (PCI)
Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150MCE (PCI)
Sony HS75P/S 17-inch LCD Monitor
Windows XP Pro

Before I got the BFG GeForce 6800GT OC I first had a BFG GeForce 6600GT OC, but I kept getting a "Problem Report" from the "NVIDIA System Sentinel" that the "NVIDIA-powered graphics card is not receiving sufficient power." Since the PCI-e version of the 6600GT doesn't have an Aux Power connector on the back of the card to give it more power, it draws all of its power from the PCI-e bus. It would work perfectly fine for normall desktop use, but if I played a game like Half-Life 2 with 3D graphics, I would get the error. Could not solve that problem, so I said the heck with it, and bought a BFG GeForce 6800GT OC since it has the 6 pin Aux power connector on it to get more power to it. The Problem with the "NVIDIA System Sentinel" went away, to only be replaced by a new problem. Again this doesn't happen in normal desktop use, only in 3D games. After playing the game for about 10 minutes or so, the monitor will give a message on the screen like it has lost the video signal, and then the computer will restart. When it's coming back up after the restart, I notice that the red light near the Aux Power connector on the 6800GT isn't lit (and the FAN on the 6800GT isn't spinning either), and it will boot to the desktop with no video (I know this, because I can hear the Windows startup sound). I have to actually hold down the power button on the computer to turn it off for a few seconds, and then when I turn it on, it will startup with video, like nothing was wrong. I'm thinking one of two things, #1 power supply problem, #2 motherboard problem (I think there's a REMOTE possibility that #3 it could be a problem with the 6800GT but I doubt it). I have an "OCZ ModStream ATX 520W Power Supply (28a on the 12v Rail with 24pin Connector) on order, but it hasn't arrived yet. Does anyone have any idea's on what might be going on??? I just seem to be pouring more and more money into my new computer with no solution in sight.

Thanks for any help out there...

Gary

since I am not using RAID is there a way to remove the boot up prompt for raid?

Yes, there is an option in the BIOS to turn the Raid Controller off. It was one of the first things that I did. I hated the prompt too. :)

I think we found a likely suspect.
Life has been great with my A8N-SLI.
Still solid as a rock.

Sounds like the power supply is going into reset, did you plug in the 4 pin connector for the power on the pci bus the "e-z plug" even though it says you don't need to. Also have you updated the bios/drivers for the video card. Also are you OC the video card the cause 1006 bios gave me problems I got rid of it right of way try the 1007. Also all though I don't think this would casue this problem, other then lack of preformance, make sure your selector card is set to single video, they say its comes through in single but mine was already set to dual.

Minotar: I am pretty SURE tha isn't the refresh because when I am playing games (CRT or LCD) the monitor info says 75 Hz (LCD) or 100/120 Hz (CRT) depending of the game. I am thinking video cards (any of them) could be the problem but I am not 100 % sure.
I am using the refresh functions of the driver (71.89 WHQL) and they are locked at 75 / 100 in almost all frequencies.

Ill give it a try to 1007 final bios, but now I am using 1004 without problems except for the god damn full screen flic.

Thank you again for your help if you know something else please let me know.

I saw that some guy from Spain reechs 257 FSB with bus 1:1 well I am using now 211x12 = 2.53 GHZ If I goes up a litlle more my poc becomes very inestable, may be the micro ?? Mems are 2-2-2-5

If there any combination that I can use to speeds up my bus ?? like 230 or 240 1:1

Thanks again

Hi my first post here after trying to read as much of this thread as I could.

I have only managed to read upto page 30 or so and my eyes are starting to fail.

If this question has already been answered else where could someone point out what page around and if not any help on the problem advised below would be apreciated.

- My Problem(s) -

1/ 50% of the time I boot up the system post boots through cpu, mem, chipset and then hangs before the drive check/inspection, the detecting drives message does not even appear and only clears after a switch off/on.

2/ SiSandra reports that my cpu is under volted

3/ Alot of the time my rig resets after closing games

- My Rig -

Asus A8N Sli Deluxe ( obviously ) with bios 1006
AMD Winchester 90nm 3200+ with xp120 & YS 120mm 131cfm fan
2 x Corsair XMS3200XL 512mb ( 2-2-2-5-1t )
Raptor 74GB SATA - in vantec HCDS ( on Sata Raid port 1 acording to mobo manual )
Maxtor Diamind Max 9 120gb IDE - in Vantec HDCS ( on Sata Raid port 2 acording to mobo manual, using and ABIT SATA Adaptor )
Antec Neo Power 480
Leadtek PCI-E 6600 GT Extreme Edition (x1) - with arctic silencer ( stock speeds of 550/1120 ) - Have not updated drivers yet
Audigy 2 ZS Plat Pro
Aopen Combo DVD/CDRW ( on IDE Master )

- Further Info -

I have only so far updated the Bios to 1006 but was having the problems with the stock 1002 bios

All bios settings are stock/auto with the following exeptions

memory voltage set to ( sorry can't remember but is set to what advised my memguy over at corsair )

memory timing 1t
CAS latency 2
RAS to CAS 2
Min RAS 5
Row precharge 2

The reason I manualy set the mem settings was that under auto SiSandra was reporting memory timeings at something like 2.5-3-3-8, after manualy setting they are showing as 2-2-2-5

I also do not know if it is related but the performace of my Raptor sucks in SiSandra tests, showing as slower than my Maxtor.

I know the drive is ok as have tested with WD Utilities, the system is a fresh build with windows xp sp2 and spyware/malware/virus free and totaly defraged

With regards the system rebooting my temps are fine

cpu idle - 29c
cpu load - 42c
graphics idle - 35c
graphics load - 48c
ambient idle - 21c
ambient load - 29c
psu temps - unchecked
drive temps idle - 29c
drive temps load - 32c

I cant think of any thing else but any help is apreciated

Regards
A

Hi anrkyuk!!
The problem you are having is all about the RAM memory I guess, I am sure that if you low your latencies to 2-3-3-5 your system will become very stable! My memory also supports those low timings 2-2-2-5 but it seems the Asus A8n SLI does not accept them very well! I tested my Ram modules runing a MS-DOS program called Memtest +86 v3.2 it will tell you when you boot up your system if your Ram Memory is working with data properly. It tests the Ram memory at the especified timings in the bios so change your timings until no errors are reported by these program!Usually if the second and third test pass with no errors that means your memory at the specified timings is working properly!
If any doubt please post it here!

MADMAX23 / steamnputer

Many thanks for your advice

I will presently download memtest and see what happens

RE changing settings, please forgive my lack of knowlege

which of these do I set to 2, 3, 3 ( I assume Min Ras stays at 5 )

Tcl 2
Trcd 3
Trp 3

Is this right ?

Kind regards
A

P.S if this is the case and solves the problem would it be worth my while swapping my memory for 2gb of twinx 3200c2 ?, I think I remember that memory being on the QVL list that accepts 2gb config for the board

Thanks again
