This is my first post, here but I have been reading and this is the the best source for trouble shooting on a8n on the web. I have managed to get everything running with few problems have had a couple minor problems. (this was my first ground up build with all new componets glad I read this thread) My problem at the moment is that I am trying to update the BIOS to 1004 and I am trying to use the ASUS update utlity via XP(pro) I have tryed to scan the forum to see if anyone else has the same problem can't get it to work wondering if I am only one have this problem?:disgust:
I have a OCZ Modstream 520 psu, yes I have it hooked to the power

PS, it is a 40 gig maxtor hdd(the master). Does a8n dislike smaller
hdds?

seems that I can't get any of the others to come even manually but i did get 1004 about 2 days ago but the 3.5 i put it on went south and never copied it to a the harddrive on my laptop.

Thnx, thats exactly whats happening to me. Im surprised more ppl havent raised a stink about this, guess theres bigger fish 2 fry with this board.
I was going to up the power supply again to try to solve this.
Went from a 550 dual rail 18amp to a 550 single 34amp trying to make this go away!
Guess u cant blame everything on the psu.

Are you using the ASUS drivers or are you using the drivers that you download from nVidia's website? When I use the nVidia nForce4 standalone, I no longer have working audio on the digital ports (I haven't tested the analog). Which did you install?

Framelord the issue with the 250+ 1:1 appears when you want to run 1GB (2*512MB) with 1T. It will not appear if you are running 1GB (2*512MB) with 2T OR 512MB (2*256MB) with 1T. You have the latter setup and that's why you can get 282 1:1 1T.
Just received a DOA a8n-sli from ZZF.. The cpu is fine tested in another system.. The speach reporter won't do anything with only a cpu installed..
To top that off I won't be able to get a replacement for about 10 days, also no-refund... We'll I guess we'll see what my cc company has to say..
BTW The board I received was a rev 1.02, is this what's currently available ??

Whitewolf: He is quoting a thread from the Xtemesystems.org forums. It was Major Slaughter that got 282mhz rather than Framelord himself. I was the one that replied to Major Slaughter clarifying that he was infact at 1T. I will try overclocking with just 1 x 512MB RAM today to see how it goes. Not that I'll stick with 512mb (obviously not in dual channel).
I discovered that the problem is an incompatility between the Evga TV tuner and the Asus A8N-SLI. Looks like the Asus doesn't like this card and I have confirmed this with another user (cdcushman) who had the exact same problem (blue screen with stop message of "MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION").
He mentioned he changed some bios settings and it made the problem go away, but he can't remember which settings they were. Anyone have any idea of which settings I woudl tweak to solve this compat problem with this PCI TV tuner?

I upgraded bios on my a8n-sli from 1.02 to 1.03( everything went ok), and on start, power on test, system calls System failed VGA test, obviously, it doesnt recognize my grafic card(Radeon x700)..is that a common problem, and what can i do? Take Nvidia card and restore old BIOS or? Please help me with some advices...

You may find it's the TV Tuner driver writing to memory that it hasn't allocated, which is picked up by DEP. You may wish to turn off DEP by editing your boot.ini file in the root of c:.
/NoExecute=OptIn - enables DEP for Windows system files (default, and includes drivers)
/NoExecute=OptOut - enables systemwide DEP
/NoExecute=AlwaysOn - enables systemwide DEP without pssibility of individual application exclusion
/NoExecute=AlwaysOff - disables DEP completely.
Try the last one to see if it solves your problem. Obviously it isn't ideal to turn DEP off as it catches rogue software, but it can cause a BSOD if hardware drivers are badly written.

thanks for the tip, i will try it out. But out of curiosity, other people have this tv tuner card working in their machines going in and out of standby. It seems to be just a problem with Asus A8N motherboards and this tuner card. If it was a badly written driver, wouldn't this affect any mobo, not jsut Asus A8N's?

If it is a problem with No Execute causing a BSOD due to an incorrectly written driver, then it should appear on any machine with a NX-capable processor - i.e. AMD64 or recent P4 - and using an OS with NX awareness - e.g. Windows XP SP2 (not SP1 or earlier).

Running 6.39 drivers for the board. Except the ethernet I left that with whatever came one the included cd. Not using the nforce networking or nvidia firewall. Using windows firewall. Avast antivirus 4.6.
The BSOD error isn't a driver IRQ. Here is the Technical Information from the error.
Stop: 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0x80543c1d, 0xf6f3fb60, 0x00000000
Mean anything to anybody? I am in deperate need of a resolution as I use this pc for business and have clients coming TOMORROW!

Tell us your configuration (what other components are in the system) adn what is the exact "stop message" you are getting?
WELL AFTER HOURS OF PULLIN MY HAIR OUT WITH THE SLI-DR I HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT MY BOARD IS VERY, VERY DEFECTIVE. THE BIOS WOULD NEVER SAVE ANY SAVINGS THAT I SET AFTER SAVING AND REBOOTING.I TRIED ALL THE BETA BIOS WITH NO SUCESS. SAME ISSUES. I REINSTALLED THE ASUS A8N-SLI AND IT IS WORKING PERFECT WITH THE SAME CONFIGURATION. OH WELL THE ASUS MAY NOT OVERCLOCK GREAT AT THE MOMENT BUT AT LEAST IT WORKS!!!!!!

Also have M-Audio Delta 66 and M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 installed. Been using them for years. Drivers have been around for awhile. I have a Joybox 11 adapter connected with one Xbox controller using psxpad drivers. Nothing new there either. NVLan enabled, Marvell Lan disabled. Silicon Raid disabled. SATA HD is on Nvidia port 1. I just got my 6600gt back from RMA (new not repaired). Running XG 71.90 drivers. I'm going to try the official Nvidia driver now.
Also flashed to 1005-05, no change yet.

Ok, tried the 66.93 for my 6600gt, same issue.
TMCHOW - not sure what info you want on the stop message. The info I provided was all that I saw, aside from the suggestions of HD space, bios etc.
Also get a BSOD Registry error when trying to use driver cleaner pro. Ran regclean, still same issue.

Welcome back Cronic. Sorry to hear about the DFI difficulties. I've been reading yours, and other posts, over on the SLI-DR site. This SLI stuff is obviously not for the squeamish. While my system runs rock solid (Single 6800 Ultra) I'm awaiting the new BIOS before overclocking or SLI become part of my life. See the above link "AJMILES" with a note received from Anandtech.
After the Anandtech SLI roundup review, I was thinking about the DFI but based on the problems, I'll stick with the ASUS for the near term.
have you tried the system without the m audio cards installed? i understand you want to use them, but just wondering if it is stable without them?

pulled the m audio cards. no change. same hang ups.
voltage? i have found my ram to be most stable at 2.85v. cpu at 1.4, tried 1.45 as well, nothing different.
