with everest I got these results:

5780 mb Read
2007 mb Write
45.2 ns latency

Not too sure if that's good, looks decent though. Thats 2-2-2-5 at 2.7v 1T - 3200 no overclock (200fsb).

Yea I can't seem to get my 5.1 onboard to work either Kilasta. I just got Listen to Believe's AC3 5.1 headphones and have been trying to get them to work on the optical S/PDIF connection. I'm using the sound driver that came with the mobo and all I can get is 2 channels. The new nForce4 standalone driver from Nvidia's website wouldn't even output to the optical channel.

GuitarDaddy, I'm fairly sure I read somewhere that the Optical Channel does not support 5.1, and that it is only 2.1. I too have a 5.1 setup, speakers not headphones, and have to get the decoder to upmix the signal to 5.1, so it's not surround at all.

Coaxial is SPDIR iirc, and that also doesn't seem to output 5.1. At the moment the sound driver hasn't turned the optical port on even, I don't get a bit of sound. You can see whether the port is on by seeing if the whole port is illuminated red (the "sound"), and it's not any more. I might try finding the latest realtek drivers.

I have had no problems with this board other then the fact I cant get past 242 1:1 with it. I wish I would of got the DFI board but its too late now. Im am praying this board will allow a high fsb with a bios update and not a hardware limitation of the boards components.

Maybe I'm not thinking about this optical S/PDIF connector properly. Obviously these 5.1 headphones and many other 5.1 speaker systems, such as logitech's Z5500, accept optical (TOSLINK) S/PDIF as their sole input source. Is it just that this board doesn't do 5.1 on this output? Wouldn't that be kind of silly to include this jack on the board if all it does is output stereo? Is it possible I need some kind of decoder between the board and these headphones?

Well I have had a few more blue screens....I flashed to BIOS 1004-001 last night, and it seemed to be more stable than 1003. I guess the bluescreens are random....mainly when I alt+tab or exit a game. I can not see what the blue screen sais because my computer restarts .05 seconds after it appears. Is there a place in windows where the bluescreen errors are stored? I want to know what is causing them.
Please reply asap!

Suddenly motherboards fan started keep strange noise, very loud noise. I opened the case and took powerplug of it away, started.. very quiet inside my case, then put it back and the sound came back. I checked, and now it rotates just 2500rpm 🙁 What should I do?

My chipset fan lately is getting louder... at first i didn't even hear it, but now its quite loud, you can hear is speeding up and slowing down.... annoying 🙁

This is weird. I had mine down for a short while yesterday (normally it's on 24/7) and when I rebooted the fan was at 4800rpm - this seems fine as the chipset is staying just as cool as before, but at bootup I have to press <F1> because I get a warning. It says this can be disabled in BIOS, but unlike CPU and Chassis fan warnings it cannot.

Not a big deal, but weird.

Im receiving this blue 'stop-screen' error:
(0x9D086240 0x00000002 0x00000000 0x8050DF62)

It usually happens once I stop playing Doom3 or UT2K4.
Bios = 1003.08 (prob not the current I believe)

..and also, Windows takes too long to shut down. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
This setup has become a complete pain in my arse.

I'm not sure about this, but don't you need a 5.1 decoder somewhere here? You would need to output this to a receiver to decode it to 5.1 surround.

The exact same thing is happening to me! Same games and seems to be the same error....any help guys!?

A couple of weeks ago, upon starting up the computer, my chipset fan started braying like a wounded mule. It was only turning @ about 1500 rpms. After it warmed up a few minutes it slowly climbed back up to about 6000 rpms and the braying ceased. It has never went that low again, but now it starts up @ about 4000 rpms and tops out between 6 - 7000 rpms, no where near the 8400 rpms it did when new. I think it's dying.

I've read here that some are using the passive Zallman heatsink, but I'm a bit hesitant to do that as I'm overclocked and reports are that the nf4 sli chipset is a real heater. Also, I don't want to void the warranty. Perhaps the thing to do is to advise Asus that I'm (along with others) having a problem with the fan and ask for a solution.

I figure either they would authorize an RMA # for the entire board, (something I don't really want to do as my board is otherwise solid as a rock) or perhaps send a replacement fan (maybe even a better one) without voiding the warranty.

It's obvious Asus really dropped the ball choosing that P.O.S. fan for their flagship MB.

To simplify things... Digital outputs (optical, coax) only output 2 channels, UNLESS it's AC3 encoded audio. If your headphones have a decoder built in, then the only way you should get 5.1 is by watching a dvd in software that has an SPDIF out option.
The only onboard sound I had that would remix audio for multichannel digital output for regular 2-channel audio was Soundstorm. We all miss Soundstorm. We await for the coming of Soundstorm 2. All will bow down before the might of Soundstorm.

I also am having problems with an NEC DVDRW Drive....It is not recognized by Windows as a DVD Drive, but as a CD Drive...Anyone else having this problem with nforce4 chipset? Any help would be appreciated.

What software are you using to burn with? It seems that my drive is recognized, but when I insert a DVD+R Windows Explorer instantly switches the name of the drive to a CD Drive instead of a DVD Drive....🙁.

I've used with this motherboard, let me think.. nero, ultraiso, alcohol this far. Now time to sleep a bit, I can't help you more, because it worked for me right from the beginning.

Ok, so I guess my question should then be: Is the optical audio output on the A8N-SLI Deluxe AC3 encoded?
