Where readily available, I have selected effective quiet options for my CPU cooler, case/fans, & disk drives. While not 'noisy', I do notice the noise from the bridge fan and from the 6600GT fan. If options become available for either that are at least as effective in cooling and are quieter and are not more than about $30, I will replace the stock cooling. I hear (but I don't recall where) an 'NV Silencer' for 6600GT will come out next month. I haven't heard anything of a replacement for the NF4 cooler yet, but a heatpipe-based solution seems obvious. Also, is there some way in software to drop the RPM of that fan? It shows up in the monitor utility, but it seems to always be running up around 8000 rpm regardless of the temperature.

I've got this error still too - I asked ASUS and they told me to update to the latest BIOS and enable the PCI Lock - sounds logical enough, but they neglected to tell me how to enable this lock - any help would be greatly appreciated as it takes ASUS forever to reply!

Posted in another thread about this. My board, rev 1.02 has A03 silicon, I removed my hsf off the chipset when I got my board (a month ago) and verified it. I run at 5x HT with no issues. That article is over two months old.

You can determine what version of the chipset you have by looking under the "Mainboard" tab in CPU-Z. Specifically the Rev. section will say (or should say" A3.

This board was late coming to market and this is one of the reasons why.

My guess would be that your Heat sink is not mounted correctly on your GPU. If I remember correctly, Anand's review noted a number of GT6600's with this problem. Artifacts are a sign of heat problems, among other things.

Okay, asus released new beta bios couple days ago and it has pci lock-settings in jumperfree-menu in bios. It's last one in that menu. Put 33.3mhz to that setting. Worked fine for me and ntune didn't announce any problems.

Can you tell us how you removed the heatsink? I know it has two plastic "push pins" with arrows on the end to prevent it from coming back through. If you removed it, were you able to re-use it and if not what are you using now? Also, what thermal grease did you use and how did you apply it?

As far as the noisy chipset fan.....I hook mine up to a fan controller...and lower it to about 6k rpm..and it pretty quiet.

What fan controller do you use to lower the chipset fan speed to 6000 RPM?
Can this be done through the board itself (using FanSpeed, or the ASUS utility)?
Does the board report the temperature of the chipset? And if so, is yours hot?

Well first off, most nforce4 boards out there are A03 not A02, i Know mine is... I have had no problems getting my HT up to ~1100 although I try to keep it below 1k

I have had problems getting the Adjustments in SpeedFan to work myself... I don't know if there needs to be a new version or what?!?!?

I have the same issue with not being able to get the "enable SLI multi-GPU mode...check the box, get the message about connecting to the primary card, press ok, checkbox clears, no re-boot. I have all of the latest BIOS, drivers, etc. and am using vanilla MSI 6800 cards.

Ok after 1-2 days i started to have HUGE stability problems with my rig.
Symptom is that comp reboots just out of the blue and often proceeds to reboot in cycle
(after windows loading screen comp reboots).
i am having antec 430 true power 1 6600 gt 1 hd and 1 dvd.
3500 newcastle cpu sli deluxe mobo and 1 gb of ocz platinum 3700EB.
i flashed new 2003.005 beta bios, reformatted hd, tried different setting mentioned in
this thread but still no stability .
Last thing i tried is to set ddr466 in bios and set Dimm voltage to 2.9.
rest are auto settings which result in 233 x 9.0 combo which doesnt run 1T.
(Asus AI booster shows 932 FSB and its 233.8 HTT vs memory frequency 191.3 Mhz by CPU-Z.
Memory timings are autoset to 3-3-3-8.
Meanwhile comp works with these settings but i have no idea for how long.
Asus probe shows
11.648 --- +12v
4.892 --- +5v
3.28 --- +3.3v
Vcore --- 1.52

I would really like to know its memory or psu that giving me such a headache or is it something else?
Couldnt get ocz 3200 plat rev2 so i took 3700 EB and had impression its a pretty good memory.
Any of you people had any success with ocz 3700?.
Would very appreciate some input.

For those trying to adjust the NOISEY chipset fan I had a speed reducer that came with one of my Zalman fans that I used to get it running at 6250 RPM. It is simply a 3 pin extension cable with a resistor in line with the red wire.

Ok, found the 1.03 beta bios and got it downloaded. Now I'm just not sure how to flash it. It's a .bin file so woudl I need to make an image file out of it and burn it to cd? I've been having some problems with BSOD's and would like some assistance. Thanks guys!

Well I'll throw in my experience with overclocking so far, would really appreciate some help to get higher. I don't see how some of you guys are getting 2.4Ghz+ out of a 3200+ winchester and this mobo. Furthest I've gotten stable was 2.3Ghz.

I got to 2.3Ghz, with a 10x multi, 230FSB, DDR at 2.75, Vcore at 1.5, and HT link at 5x. It doesn't seem to like the 4x setting, as it fails to post and warns me to change settings. I was hoping the new beta-BIOS would help this because it seems to be the only thing I can think of to get it passed 230fsb.

Also, it doesn't like to boot at 9x multi as well. Same message as above. My real problem is I get BSOD every now and again. It will be just fine and stable until I exit out of Far Cry or Tribes:Vengence. Then it will BSOD and ask me to change BIOS settings.

Anyone help me out here?

There might be a program to flash the bios on the cd it came with, or you can download that Phoenix Award BIOS flash tool from their site. You will need to have a bootdisk though as the program needs to be run from dos. A new bios won't fix your problem imo.

First off, don't even bother reading into the Asus Probe voltages they are giving you incorrect readings. if you want true voltages, use a multimeter. Asus Probe shows 11.9 for me, but if I read directly off a Multimeter it shows 12.06. I don't think your PSU is giving you the problem, but it is always a possibility.

Secondly, take the CD drive out of your machine and see if that helps stability. I have noticed that different SATA/IDE devices can increase my chances of stability probs.

Third, set you memory voltage manually. EB is pretty tolerant to volts, but try different settings. BTW, are you getting BSOD memory Dumps for a breif second right before the reboot? That is probably indicative of memory errors, but if you want to check for sure get memtest86. You can boot into memtest from a USB key, floppy, or cd. It should tell you weather or not your memory has issues. This is a possibility b/c I know you bought your EB used, right?

If the reboots are happening without a BSOD it might be that your CPU sucks. What speed / temp / volts is it at?

Go get clockgen for the nforce4 and use that to make sure that your PCI bus is locking. If not make sure the setting in the BIOS is at 33.34 and not Track.

If your running at 230fsb with HT 5x thats 1150, which is really pushing it and it is not suprising at all that you are crashing...

First off use the 1003.005 BIOS, it seems to be the best for overclocking (although not the best for recognizing my SATA2 drive) You can flash with ASUS Update APP in windows, just run default settings when you do this so you don't crash during the flash (that would be bad).

Hello everyone i'm new in this forum, but i have read enough to see that is an excellent board. Looks like you're all objective with your comments and opinions, not just a bunch of spammers fighting to tell who´s better AMD vs Intel or ATi vs Nvidia.

I hope I can be a good member too. I want to build a new system (as of right now i'm using my job PC) and I really find very attractive this ASUS SLi Board, I've been watching the issues with the board, but I think they're common cause its a very new board.

Do you recommend to buy it right now, wait for a new revision, or maybe wait a bit more (a month or so) to see gigabyte's an DFI's solutions.

and what do you think about this PSU for this new line of boards:
