In terms of a practical use, you could use two LAN adapters to provide a firewall to your home network.
If you are directly connected to the internet, live with it!!! You can now connect at 100Mb/Sec. even though you only have a T1 line.

This new card from Gigabyte is a screamer!!!! That is if we can believe the numbers....
If it will truly be available at $500 in January, shouldn't we be seeing some reviews by now?
Especially, if it is going to blow away the 6600/6800 cards....
Imagine using two 3D1's on an SLI Board with a FX-55 CPU.
Just thinking of the possibilities...

I'm sure I want the A8N board, I just think I'll sit tight on the video card(s).
Too much happening right now to jump out and buy a new GPU.

Hello to all! Been lurking and reading this thread for a few weeks now and decided to pop in for a little advice. I Just finished building my new A8N-SLI rig a few days ago. It's guts are as follows:

A8N-SLI
Athlon 64 3000+ winchester
2 512 OCZ platinum rev 2
2 XFX 6600 gt's
Ultra X connect 500 watt P.S.
W.D. 74 gig raptor SATA
Maxtor 300 gig SATA
NEC 3500 DVD/RW
Thermaltake Big Water cooling

The thing went together perfectly, XP pro installed without a hiccup, Nforce, video, and sound drivers went in without a hitch. And she runs along pretty snappily. (no benchmarks, sorry)

Thing is, when I attempt to overclock, even a bit, I get the "boot fail due to overclock" message. I can get maybe up to a 210 FSB, but anything over that and she'll choke. I've had the voltage tweaked up to 1.5 and I'll be able to boot once right after exiting bios, but on a system restart.... "boot fail due to overclock".

She's running really cool, (I live in Alaska and the box is located next to a sliding door that leads to my porch which remains open a crack so my wife's plants don't croak). Speedfan reports CPU @ 22C at idle, 28 under load. (nice now, but it'll go up in summer I'm sure.) Anybody got any ideas? Did I just get a weenie chip?

Nice temps! I bet if you put her out on the porch she'd even cool off some more (the rig, not yer wife!!!) 😉

Sounds like power problem. Do you have any way to test your voltage rails? What does ASUS probe show the voltage to be on each rail. Also have you dropped the HTT multi to 4x?

The Xconnect power supply is questionable, check this thread for Skybums posts. His AN8-SLI cratered on an Xconnect

I want to use the Second SLI slot for something else like SCSI or Serial SCSI. Can I do that? I belive it can be done.

ShoNuff, I can't remember exactly, but it was fast... The units were ready to ship last Monday and I think it was here Thursday... Just use whatever shipping option you think is best...

The PS should be here today. When I called I told the CSR that I was interested in the Express model with the dual 6 pin connectors. She replied, "Oh, you mean the Turbo Cool 510 Deluxe SLI?" I simply said yes gave her my address and she said it would ship later that afternoon. I am only 100 miles from Carlsbad and ground shipping usually means one-day service for me.

I bet they would sell more if they had this unit on their website. I looked prior to seeing your post and almost ordered another version.

Thanks again!

That could be either a psu problem or check to see if your pci locks are working. Raptors do not like to be overclocked even a little bit. Check to see if your locks are actually locked. I bet that is the problem.

Got my board yesterday, unfortunately am still waiting on my 3500 winchester and leadtek 6800GT.

Might have saved enough for a second 6800 by the time it all ships.

Arghh mobo but nothing else, still it looks good though.

PC Power and Cooling.

Hello all! I have been enjoying this thread for several weeks now and really appreciate the feedback you all have given.

I would like to ask a quick question:

What would be the best PS for this mobo that won't break my bank account?

Maybe willing to spend $100 - 150.

Thanks,

Shils,

flash with the new 1003 beta bios and your failure problem should disappear. I had the same thing. Flashed to the beta bios, and now I don't get that error any more.

Just tried a dry fit with my XP 120 and it does fit. A very tight fit on the first dimm slot with my Crucial ram with big heatsink, but it goes. No probs with the capacitors on the other side.
You do have to use the Thermalright mounting bracket and screws.
Hope to have time to get it all running in a few days.

Hey guys! Well ive had my SLI board for 2 or weeks, but without a video card or 2 🙂 Well good news! Just found a site that has BFG 6800 GT PCI-E IN STOCK!!!

I know this aint on subject, but i know some of you need a video card to go with your new SLI board like me. So anyways heres the link to the site:

Keep us posted and let us know if/when this ships. Good to see they are in the retail channel. Hopefully we will see more soon. I would really love to see the Ultra start shipping. 🙂

Building a nvraid disk array on the new box as I type. So far, the only pitfall is native (unflashed bios) problems with an X700-Pro. Currently using a PNY 6600GT and all is going well. I'll flash the bios after the arrays are formatted, then try again with the X700. Smooth build otherwise. 😉

The power rails on the Ultra X connect seem strong. Asus probe sees 12 volt rail @ 12.22, 5 volt rail @ 5.05. 3.3 volt rail @ 3.31. All seem stable at those voltages. I do have alot of stuff in this build. It's a Beantech acrylic case, and it's got some lighted fans, (3 - 80 mm, 2 - 120 mm) , the Thermaltake big water pump, 2 12" UV lights, 2 Hard drives, 2 optical drives, and 2 video cards (6600gt's). Which rail does the CPU pull it's power from? I could discombobulate some of the stuff to see if that helps stabilze any overclock.

Someone suggested checking the PCI lock, but my understanding is there is none. PCI frequency is controlled by the PCI express setting (100 - 145) in bios. Is this correct or am I missing something? I have left this @ 100.

I have tried reducing the HT to 4 to no avail. My highest stable overclock is still around 210 - 212 FSB.

chexi suggested flashing to the new 1003 beta bios as he encountered similar symptoms and the new bios helped. Anyone having any problems with the beta bios?

Maybe I'm just being cheep and greedy...lol. I bought the 3000+ after reading the Anand review and thought it would be the most bang for the buck. It still is pretty speedy....even @ stock speeds.

thanks to all for your help and comments

I am planning to build a new computer with this motherboard and collecting the parts. I ordered Kingston PC 3200 memory based on the ASUS website. Should I have gone with any speicail memory?

Planning to build with:

Lian Li 1100B
FX-53
6800GTX2
Maxtor 250 16MB SATA
Anetec NeoPower 480

Kingston Value RAM bad choice?

Thanks
