OFFICIAL and Confirmed ESPN Football 2k5 Thread

WOW, how come it came so early compare to Madden. I guess they want to hit the market first.

not only that but everyone who typically buys madden at $50 will be thinking "why in the world would I pay an extra 30?" then they'll try nfl2k5 and love it, then madden will go down finally 😀

It's rated extremely high on Game Rankings. IGN called it AT LEAST as good or better than Madden (more enhanced feature set, custom sound tracks). Plus it has Xbox Live.

For $20, it's a complete no-brainer. Fry's has it on sale today for $17.99.

Hmm.. $19.99 at Best Buy means one can use a $5 gamer gift card coupon, right? $15 for NFL2k5? Very nice.

whoa, $15 for this game? they must be taking a huge loss, but I hope it pays off for them next year.

What they lose in profit per unit sold, they'll make up in a larger userbase and more copies sold. It's win-win.

Hmm....I love madden, but for $20 I don't know if I can pass this up.

That statement is exactly why Sega is doing the $19.99 price point this year. They know their game can compete, but people are so locked into Madden they don't give it a chance. But by releasing it 3 weeks early and $30 cheaper, people like you may give it that chance, and when the 2k6 lineup is out, you may not go back to Madden.

Smart move on Sega's part. 1 time losses on the 2k5 franchises to build fan base.

$19.99 is the reason I preordered this game instead of Madden this year. I was supposed to pick my copy up today but apparently the damn delivery isn't coming until tomorrow morning now. 🙁

EA did get my money for NCAA though. BTW, I think all of the Sega sports games are coming out at 19.99 and I'm pretty sure the NBA game owns NBA Live (based on 2004). I can't remember for sure though.

No... they aren't losing any money. They have high fixed cost (Game development) and low varible cost (shipping and cost of cd). It's clear what they're shooting for is gains through volume and not high EA type margins.

Good move, especially since NFL2k5 is a superior game.

This game is incredible! For anyone whose never played any Sega football games, you don't know what you're missing. For those of you who are Madden die-hards, at least give this a chance. The big difference in gameplay you might find seems even more like real football.
And for those of us who've owned them all since the Dreamcast, this is a bigger jump than 2K4 was from 2K3 last year! The running game is perfect now. 🙂

This financial accountant is 😕 with this logic.

I understand your's, but his did not make sense. volume does not make up for unit losses if variable costs are included. Variable costs flatten out after so much volume, it is not a dollar for dollar relationship.

In any case, does Sega make an NCAA Football game that can port players into the 2K5?

got the game today, bro is hoggin it. havnt played it yet, but it looks great. i love the half time shows, and replays. they do a really good job making it feel like you're watching a real espn broadcast. grafx are nicer too!
