Crystal should have won, and would have won based upon pure talent. I've been hot for Lee all season, but even I bow to the reality of Idol's primary demographics of tweens and cougar-moms are the voting base and pushed Lee through. And frankly, Lee paled in comparison to Crystal during the 3-performance finale on Tuesday. Really paled.

I don't expect much of anything really notable from Lee, he'll probably fade and be background music much like Kris Allen. But I'll be waiting in line to hear what Crystal does for her music release.

The Idol finale really seemed like it was poised to be the real American Idol show finale <period>. Are we in store for a somehow totally different Idol experience next year? They really need something done to keep it fresh, and just replacing Simon is not going to cut it.

The only change I've heard is that they're decreasing the length of the shows: 1 1/2 hours on Tuesdays (instead of 2 hours) and 30 minutes on Wednesday (instead of 1 hour). I don't know if that's been confirmed or if it's just hearsay though.

Crystal has a good voice. She sounded good even on that Joe Cocker song.

Crystal has more talent, but Lee is also a good singer. He is a grunge rocker kind of guy.

I think the overall talent this year was better than in previous years. But there wasn't an Adam Lambert stand-out that could just flatten you with their vocals. Crystal comes close, though, when she wants to she can really let it fly. I think she has better vocals than Alanis did on her song.

Crystal has 100x more talent than Lee. Lee is the exact same person as the guy who won last year (forgot his name he was so forgettable). American Idol keeps churning out the same cookie cutter winners. I was really shocked Crystal even made the top 5. I was certain it would be Lee vs the blond guy.

I guess Crystal making the top two despite not being:

1) A cute guy.
2) A heavyset black person.
3) A pretty blond girl who sings country.

...is a real testament to her talent.

Wait. That was actually his new single? What the hell man, are they not even trying anymore? Did Crystal have an original song or was it the same one?

for the finale, when they did 3 songs, the final songs were "The singles that they will release if they win." Lee's was Beautiful Day, Crystal's was Up on the Mountain.

Well, we all know which was the superior performance...but I don't think the results are going to keep Crystal away from the studio or the road. She's the first Idol contestant whose music I will actually purchase, somewhere down the line.

I listened to a few of her own songs on Youtube--she's actually quite a good songwriter.

Wow. this is studio speak for "We just lost millions on advertisers backing out when Simon leaves."

lol. I think it will slowly fizzle through next season, maybe limp into one more season, then done.

Hard to imagine, though, that the biggest advertising whore on all of Television would crumble due to the loss of one personality. I know I'll be less interested in how it looks. Then again, I thought I wouldn't care as much after Adam Lambert, but then there was Crystal. haha.

😀

I couldn't agree more. I called the final 3, but was thinking Casey would win some weeks ago. going into this week, I was pretty sure Lee was going to win. I'm sitll not shocked though, or disappointed, it's just that Lee was so horrible in the finale, especially compared to Crystal, where the week before he blew Crystal and Casey off the stage.

Lee Dewyze, just for comparison, is like the new and super improved Kris Allen 2.0. More and more comfortable performance, creative arrangements, and he seems to know what he's doing (song choice, etc). He might actually win this thing.

I agree with the rest of your post though. Crystal is so much better than everyone else at this point.

I called it.

I was rooting for Crystal since the very first time I saw her, and was so happy to see that final-two performances of hers, which was just amazing. I'm not too sad though as I 'm sure she'll have a great career in her future either way.

I also really really loved the finale show this year. Awesome guest stars and not too much emphasis on 'the crazies' like they have done before a few times which was a complete waste of time. This time they brought all 'the crazies' out together once and that's it. I think the Simon Cowell love fest could be toned down a bit but I'm not going to complain about that. He deserves to be send out with a blast.

Good season.

I just watched the recent vids for the first time...

Fvck, Bowersox got robbed!

Bowersox is a much better artist...vocals, interpretation, creativity, style, originality, connection to the audience...WTF!

I would have even picked Casey (who I rooted for at the season outset) over Lee, but Casey just couldn't master the art of song choice. His style grew a lot over the weeks as he tried (and struggled at times) to define himself, so he deserves a lot of credit imo.

Casey I think sounds great recorded. His version of "Don't" is great.

His "Jealous Guy" during Lennon & McCartney week was one of the best overall performances of the season, I thought.

I was listening to studio recordings the other night...Holy Hell! Didi REALLY got robbed.

how those little dipshits Tim and david archuletta #2 got past her is a joke. 🙁

She probably wouldn't have made it to top 4 or 5, sure...but she should have been around longer. She has a great recording voice.

What I don't understand is...from which county fair circuits are they digging 1/2 these "stars" up from?!? Do they not know who their target audience is? I'm pretty sure most of the teenagers voting really don't give 2 $hits about Joe Cocker, Chicago, Beegees, Janet, or frickin' Hall and Oates.
I understand they are all legends in music, and Brett Michaels was awesome when I was in 8th grade, but I mean honestly, all these people haven't done anything relevant since most of their voters have even been alive. Is it just a matter that they can't get anyone current to take the time to be on their show, or do they purposely seek these has-beens out? It's just really weird.
And that pants on the ground thing just went on too long, and then Bill Hung coming out, was just embarrassing for the entire show.

That being said, decent season, kind of forgettable though.

well, either they bring out washed-up stars long-past their prime, barely capable of singing anymore, or they bring out the current crop of "contemporary artists" (which they do weekly), who flat-out can't sing at all.
:\

I am watching Wednesday's show now, I think it's pretty good. Yeah, I can see where you're coming from with the older artists, but they've been around for so long because they're good. If in 20 years we utter the words "Soulja Boy" or "Nickelback" in the same breath as Alice Cooper or Janet Jackson, well thats when I eat a bullet.
