I find it interesting that there's no mention of Zen 2 for Pinnacle Ridge. I mean, stuff like that should show up on the roadmap, right?

Hm, is this a refresh like Kaveri -> Godavari and Carrizo -> Bristol Ridge? Higher clock speeds with little tweaks here and there resulting in a polished product?
This kind of reminds me when the x58 chips were released. It didn't take Intel long to make step improvements and then release new models using them like with the 920 to 930 which performed way better in the OC department without any voltage adjustments. I'm hoping that it won't take too long before Zen improvements arrive in the customers hands in a similar fashion which I would be inclined to take advantage of. I usually try to build a new machine every 3 years or when processing power makes a huge jump forward and a revised Ryzen would put me at the 3 year mark. While my 4790k is sufficient for what I do I want my next system to carry on with my tradition of incremental improvements which will also include replacing my GPU which is currently a gtx 780 ti that is right on the edge at 1440p..

Do you guys know the safe 24/7 OC voltage for R7?! I heard someone suggest that AMD recommended 1.365v, but I have not been able to confirm this anywhere.

Hopefully AMD is smart enough to offer bundle deals with series 5 and rx 5 series, honestly they could sell a crap ton of hardware if they get this right, remember the dragon platform? A better relaunch would go down really well here.

It looks like that for raven ridge 2018, disappointing that no new generation.

Which they are! $170 for an unlocked i7 is some good value!
If it performs like 7350k or i5-7400 in games it is not good value anymore. What, you cry productivity? Gaming CPU, didn't you hear that it is Gaming CPU, not some pitiful productivity chip.

Also, CCX bugs or not, in majority of situations on modern games 1 CCX is slower than 2 CCX, so it will be curious how it unfolds against what AMD wants to set it against on price: 7350k.

$200 CPU paired with $200 GPU, im sure all those gamers will play at 720p low IQ settings ;)
Yes, and if it performs like $60 G4560 in games why should i buy Ryzen 5 for games instead of G4560?

Besides, i am a gamer who plays at 720p low IQ settings with a $200 CPU. But i have never paid a penny for GPU, so whatever.

I don't think it's worth weighing in on gaming hardware at that point.

A G4560 (if you can find one at MSRP in stock) is a great buy to get into the LGA1151 socket on a non-OC motherboard chipset if you plan to get an i5/i7 someday later (non-K). Could stretch for a Z chipset if you are sure you'll spend $300 next year you don't have now for a new CPU I suppose.

Hard to argue with the value proposition for a barebones low end rig either. We'll have to see if AMD even drops anything into this segment.

G4560 is worse than Core i3 6300 in regards to frametimes, Ryzen R5 6C 12T will be in another league in frametimes and way higher minimum fps than any Intel 2C 4T or even entry 4C 4T.

That is probably accurate. They are likely calling it a 1080p gaming CPU, because it's cheap.

Which they are! $170 for an unlocked i7 is some good value! You can't even buy a used 4770k for that!

No CCX bugs either...

Is that the official info on the Ryzen 5s?

With what GPU? Also, we will see about frametimes seeing what results 8c16t had in regards to frametimes compared against even Kaby i5s everywhere but CB.de.

You are right, i am set on r7 1700 already, why would i even consider 6c12t option.

If you never paid a penny for GPU, why would you want a 200 quid? Why not Cheap out on a 60 quid CPU. Lol. You goona be GPU bottlenecked anyway at 720p low IQ. Ryzen is above your reach

And since gaming is apparently the only thing u do at that at 720p get a Xbox. Lol

I see the troll is strong in you

The faster the GPU the worse it gets.
Of course it does that's why i asked with what GPU. With 1050 Ti they are GPU bottlenecked even on frametimes in everything that is not explicitly CPU-bound.

At the time i was getting my current rig $60 could only buy you a CPU that was slower than my $30 Core 2 Quad.

Good thing i do more than just game, then :p But nice bait.

Except that in most games R5 1400 will perform like lowly i5 if R7 numbers and PCGH tests are anything to go by. Suddenly savings are not as obvious, are they?

And again with a $200 GPU you will be 99% GPU limited in modern games, especially next gen games.

The savings against any Intel option is obvious to anyone that doesn't live with their head in the sand. 2-3 years down the line, Intel has no CPU upgrade to slot into your Z270, whereas AMD has any number of upgrades. So first up, you're saving on actually having a GPU within the budget, and secondly you're saving by having MOBO that you can put a better CPU into in 2-3 years time.
The only viable Intel option is to be patient, and wait until another pin gets added to their platform, then upgrade. However, you'll be paying Intel prices, which is fine if you like being treated like a mug.

AtenRa, it depends on what framerate you're targeting. You can hit 144fps in most any modern title with even a lowly 1050 or 460, given sufficiently low graphical settings, but without an adequate CPU it just isn't going to happen.

What is that you do with a CPU that foes not need more cores? Browse YouTube?, then get a tablet. And then cast it to a TV

If you are satisfied with an 2 physical core and cannot see how you would be needing more, what r you doing in a thread where most of us are interested in higher core count.

Even a i5 with 4 physical core cannot keep up in BF1 multiplayer.

I doubt that would be true at 1080p.

If you are on a budget, the long lifetime of the AM4 socket wins the argument and that's it.
However, AMD does need a 99$ quad ASAP to serve the folks that would buy bellow 100$. Making an effort to buy a 99$ quad is feasible but making an effort to buy a 169$ quad is too much.
AMD is messing up by not going lower than 169$ right away, at the very least they should have a quad at 150$ , if nothing else because of perception. Cheapest quad Intel 180, cheapest quad AMD 169$, not much of a diff so why get excited.
Folks are happy above 200$ but bellow 200$ AMD hasn't thought this through and this was the easiest segment since Intel dials down the clocks, disables HT and locks everything.

R3 is coming soon. If r5 starts a 169, I'm sure r3 will start 99 or less

Or move the FX down to 100 or less while stock lasts

Because of the 4 extra threads.
