If you are on a budget, the long lifetime of the AM4 socket wins the argument and that's it.
However, AMD does need a 99$ quad ASAP to serve the folks that would buy bellow 100$. Making an effort to buy a 99$ quad is feasible but making an effort to buy a 169$ quad is too much.
AMD is messing up by not going lower than 169$ right away, at the very least they should have a quad at 150$ , if nothing else because of perception. Cheapest quad Intel 180, cheapest quad AMD 169$, not much of a diff so why get excited.
Folks are happy above 200$ but bellow 200$ AMD hasn't thought this through and this was the easiest segment since Intel dials down the clocks, disables HT and locks everything.
