I took Hardware Unboxed video, and removed any result that is obviously misbehaving one way or another (Which would result in a very very large delta from 6900K). I ignored large deltas from 7700K, as that is perfectly explainable by higher clockspeed and IPC. I then from these games took the highest Ryzen result, whether it is SMT on or SMT off, since I assume after a few patches here and there to Windows and games, the CPU will perform at least as fast as the best result there.

Games Removed:
Hitman
Watch Dogs 2

I also made two separate averages with and without Deus Ex, as the minimum appears oddly out of line compared to the averages.

With Deus Ex (Min/Avg):
Ryzen: 94/118 (100%/100%)
7700K: 110/137 (117%/116%)
6900K: 98/124 (104%/105%)

Without Deus Ex (Min/Avg):
Ryzen: 97/120 (100%/100%)
7700K: 112/139 (115%/116%)
6900K: 100/126 (103%/105%)

So, ignoring outliers and accounting for SMT regression, 6900K has 5% higher averages and 3% higher minimums.
Not bad at all for buggy rushed Microcode with poor scheduling from Windows.

Someone commented that he actually tested games in DX12, despite the fact that it lowered performance for all CPUs, but affected the 7700k less.

When things get fixed and optimized, I suspect the 6900k is about 5% faster in extremely niche scenarios. Titanxp at 1080p

I hear that Ryzen is running like a swiss watch on Linux...

Also I hear the patches are already out for scheduling..

It would be very interesting to see some gaming stats running on Linux

edit spelling

Phoronix has some, although the site has run like crap since Ryzen launched at least. It doesn't look great there honestly, something is wrong with Dota vulkan at least.

Looks like the nazi mod didn't like your critical review of AMDs supposed flagship motherboard.

Not a popular opinion, but I consider Asus an overrated brand. I guess I can't think of a company I'd call a "gold standard" one to replace them in the hierarchy though. They'll get it together on that board eventually, but I'm not sure why everyone is after that particular board now that it sounds like at this moment at least its not a good choice. I guess finding any motherboard is a problem right now.

Apparently, Joker's "5ghz" 7700k was actually running at 4ghz...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWarC_Nygew

I want to see a response from joker, innocent untill proven guilty, although the case against him is starting to look compelling.

I hate all this BS drama, but here is Joker's response video.

In case you didn't know, these two used to do a tech news podcast together, and had some kind of falling out. Now apparently all the aussie techtubers have joined together against him. Right or wrong, idk...

He tests with a Titan X Pascal at 1080p and 1440p, that's low res and in just 16 games.
Do note that the 6900k doesn't have Turbo 3 enabled in the review and that would be an extra 8% ST clocks.
And next time, before insulting people, go do some research.

Don't expect anyone to take you seriously when you call 1440p. "low res"

Next time before you post, go do some thinking.

I'll guess I have to wait a long time for my replacement motherboard. I have to use my trust i7 4820K build again. I bought a cheap PSU and graphics card and built a 2nd computer. Right now I am using my backup one.

I've run the numbers on the techspot review, excluding the Tom Clancy's The Division (since 1440p results posted twice, though same for every CPU anyway). 15 games out of the 16 listed.

At 1080p, the 7700k was 17.4% ahead of the 1800x, and the 6900k was 7.4% ahead of the 1800x.
At 1440p, the 7700k was 9.7% ahead of the 1800x, and the 6900k was 2.5% ahead of the 1800x.

I'm still not seeing this supposed 12% in favour of the 6900k @1080p that they claimed.

Note: I used the best result from the 1800x, whether SMT was on or off, in my calculations.

(17.4 + 7.4)/2 = 12.4?

Nevermind, that doesn't even match the statement 6900K@1080p.

Thankyou for that, a complete hatchet job! Joker has gone up in my estimations by being up front and transparent, defo one of my go to reviews from today.

It really doesn't matter . New videos/articles are dispelling the notion that Ryzen is somehow bad for games. It is simply not true. What is bad for games is intel dual core pentium/i3 and FX lineups (later little bit less due to more cores).

Ryzen, out of the box, holds an awesome perf/$ ratio, be it content creation or gaming. It will only get better with time since it is a new platform. 1700 currently is unmatched in perf./price. Imagine what will happen with ~280$ Ryzen 5 1600X with clocks matching 1800X. It will be hands down the best mainstream SKU to buy.

About all this nonsense of low resolution testing as an indicator of future performance , its CRAP!!.
Unless you specifically enjoy playing ultra high fps on low settings/res then don't buy into this nonsense.
AdoredTV did a bit of research into this on his latest video using independent benchmarks, there is no evidence that a cpu that performs better at low resolutions will perform better than a rival in future with stronger graphic cards, NONE.
In fact the one metric he found that provides evidence for future gaming performance is THREADS.
yes he is somewhat pro amd so intel fanbois will cry foul, but his analysis is based off of independent benchmarks so it is 100% legit and true.

You would have thought tech media would actually check historical data points to check if this ultra low resolution nonsense actually stood up to scrutiny.
Anyway low resolution test to predict future performance dubunked. :)

DAMN beat me to it.

Adored pro AMD? I follow him for quite awhile, and he is definitely tech enthusiast, not pro-AMD.

Just because he absolutely chuffed with the value of the CPU(and by default - performance) makes him pro AMD?

Hes pro amd, NOT a fanboi just has sympathy for their plight and likes their engineering.
He comments on other forum i also am a member of, hes completely objective though as shown by critcising AMD when the need arises.

Next time before you post, go do some thinking.

With 4k120 and 8k60 on the horizon, 2560x1440 looks pretty dated. 4k is the new mainstream resolution. 3440x1440 @ 100hz is the only 1440p worth talking about right now and that is going to be outdated in a year or so.

1080p is the new 1366x768; a resolution we should all despise. 1440p is also soon to be a low resolution. Once 4k120 replaces 1440p144 1440p will be dead.

We both fit my description :)
Too many people hide behind a veneer of complete impartiality, its a contradiction of human nature, if you have an interest in something you almost certainly have preferences and favourites, its unavoidable whether you realise it or not, or to put it more accurately in some cases willing to admit it.

Me, you , adored, inf64, looncranz, etc etc are tech enthusiasts with a slight preference/sympathy/likeness for AMDs products. Whilst also keeping a healthy dose of objectivity.
Im not calling anyone a fanboi, which there are a few on both sides of the fence on this very forum, but sympathizers as such.

Just because I see value in AMD hardware makes me have preference/sympathy/likeness for AMD's products?
I see value in Intel(at this point - not so much, apart from the 35W TDP CPUs, but I am the weird one who builds low-power computers) and Nvidia hardware(GTX 1080 Ti is by far margin Best GPU there has ever been). What does it make me?

lol no.. Most people aren't going out and dropping $1000 on a monitor! Ain't happening!

I paid $318 for my BenQ XL2730z, which was a good deal, but I still felt that was a lot of money to spend for a monitor. I did so, because I know these things last a long long time, and I understand that budget enthusiast gamers will eventually move beyond 1080p, and I wanted a futureproof monitor.

I tell most people to avoid 4k monitors like the plague, because they are budget gamers, and I know they aren't going to be buying GTX 1080s anytime soon.

1080p will be the norm for many many years from now. I suspect after many years we might move to 1440p, and then 1440p ultrawide, but that is very far off.
