Do you really believe intel will price any 8C SKL-X SKU at 1800X level? If you are then you are dreaming.

Why not if Zen is Competitive? However given the leaks and the fact Skylake-X should be better in general than broadwell-e (IPC, but especially clocks) a 8-core part could be priced a $600-$700. Getting 10-15% better performance for 20% more price at the high end isn't a terrible deal.

I want a power-optimized 8-core Ryzen in a laptop.

I currently have a 6700HQ and it's not enough.

There is this slide from AMD detailing the naming scheme and the non X version is just standard desktop not low power so who knows maybe they do a low power octa.

Performance wise looks disappointing aside from power consumption, i mean wow thats impressive, those kinds of numbers look good for server and APUs, i just hope the real reviews look better than that, seems like AT wont as they have done a chunk of benchmarks 2 weeks ago, with the ever improving but dodgy bios that may be reflected in the results.
Really pumped by the efficiency though.

You're right, I can't find it either, but that is the only pdf of slides that I know of. I don't know what pdf bjt2 was referring to now, but hopefully he can fill us in.
Yes, it's this. I am logged with my google account in google chrome and had no problem viewing it. Probabily is semi-public...

Even if they can drop prices by half and still make a price, they sure as hell don't want to.

8-core desktop CPUs are a niche market, so won't affect Intel's bottom line much, but if AMD can actually deliver this kind of performance per watt, then the next battle might be server CPUs, and that's a huge market.

They're a niche market now, mainly because of pricing. You're right that Intel losing sales on their 8-core CPUs won't affect their bottom line much, but with proper marketing and exposure, people will see they can get 8 and 6 core Ryzens at the same price or less than quad core i7 and i5, and if i5 and mainstream i7 sales are affected, that could be a problem.

Depending on which way these reviews come out will drastically shape these forums until skylake x nears, if benchmarks suck we are going to get a comment flood from several prominent members who have disappeared lately ;)

I'm kind of sad the NDA is lifting soon. This thread , for Me , has been like giving a bucket of crack to an addict :D

Nope! Not, sad for me at all :)
My bucket of crack is...when I receive my CPU, Mobo and start building - as, Raja Koduri would put it "I'm very exZited"

Hmm. They didn't appear to get the memory latency "fix", whatever that was (BIOS update)?

Even still, their conclusion is:
R7 1800X = i7-6900K performance at 1/2 price
R7 1700X = i7-6800K performance - but you can get a motherboard with the 1700X for the price
R7 1700 > i7-7700 while you can also get DDR4 with the R7 1700

tl;dr they think Ryzen will be a hit

Indeed, you probably had to argue with them on so many occasions.

Does Prime only stress the FP side of the core though?

If thats the case, due to the undersized FP on Zen, then it'll always look better from power consumption - not so hot from performance.
Good point! Those power consumption numbers seem too good to be true. I would like to see the R7 1800X's power consumption be taken during a Handbrake/Blender test, those scenarios it really does well in, for comparison. If those numbers it's apex figures check out to be around 7700K figures then AMD's hit the ball out of the ballpark!

Dang. I hope I don't have to wait longer than the June-Julyish time that I am targeting for upgrades. ...I may just have to pass the time by watching my wee pile of AMD shares climb. :\

On the other hand till then you will have the 6-core on the market and initial issues (hopefully) worked out. Given what we read in this read being an early adopter ain't going to be a smooth run (manual memory timings...)

And if it is July why not just wait for August and Skylake-X and mabe get it cheaper.
