Once I got XP installed I found that if I increased the ram voltage up to 2.65 (like you did) and left the timing settings at [BY SPD] I could go back to DDR400 and everything seemed pretty stable.

I remember reading that some 865/875 implementations have trouble running at tight timings.
using SPD, the Corsair LL will run 2-2-2-6. You'll probably find you can drop the voltage
back down if you manually set the timings to 2-3-3-6.

also, anyone have any advice on some conservative overclocking for that chip? i want to use stock cooling and not reduce the life of the chip. i know this isnt exactly the right place, but i figure those of you who have used this board might be able to offer more detailed advice. thanks!

I just got it last night. and am setting it up now (sort of, I don't have the case, or video card, or HD that will be in the final)

QUESTION!--the kingston ram I got...one is single sided the other double sided(the double sided one has 4 ram chips per side, the single sided 8 chips on one side) now I have both inplace and the boot screen says it's running in dual channel mode. is this OK? I thought you couldn't mix single sided and double sided memory?

OK I have done the following:
setup an albatron PX865PE pro with 256MB kingston valueram (pc3200) 1 stick (the other is in this machine i'm typing from as it had a bad stick of memory)

I am using a P2.4C with a RETAIL INTEL COOOLER and even just the thermal pad, no AS3 even and have OC'd it 250MHz FSB

250x12=3000Mhz:D
I installed libranet 2.8 (debian linux) and played with it for a while at this speed
current temp in the bios is 60c for the CPU and 42c for the system
bios is 1.6
my ddr:cpu ratio is 1.6
250x1.6= 400MHZ so i don't push the memory too much

I am very happy with this.

this system is for my parents, and hopefully I will finish it tomorrow.

Anyone having proplems with the sound? I am getting lots of static (interference). I have tried different speaker systems, a basic system setup, moving all the leads away and reinstalling the hardware (PnP) and drivers. The static is still there. \

How is everyone elses sound?

I just noticed this when I have the volume up high, but it isn't noticeable when music is playing though.

I am having problems with sound as well. I get no sound at all, this is at my parents house so I can't test everythign I'd like to. also I installed this w/o reinstalling win2k so that may be part of it.

I am trying to uset Mobo Monitor 5 to check temps but I am having trouble pointing the program to the right sensors. there are 9 choices total and each appears to be reading a different temp:
winbond 1
winbond 1 2N3904
winbond 1 diode
winbond 2
winbond 2 2N3904
winbond 2 diode
winbond 3
winbond 3 2N3904
winbond 3 diode

what are the differences between them, which ones should i be using and what temps are they measuring? thanks!

Suppose I wanted to swap out the active cooling on the ProII to passive (like with a Zalman ZM-NB32J) and use a Zalman CNPS7000-AlCu for the CPU. Will they both fit?

anyone know anything about the temperature sensors yet? (see my above post)

also, i noticed the pro II comes with 4 add-on input plates which leaves you with one open pci slot. dont know why they couldnt have just put more of it on the board.

does anybody know if the swiftech MCX4000 cooler will fit?

first post here, i have the PRO2 board and mcx4000 and it's a very very very tight fit.. you'd be pushing up against the mosfets and probably still need to force tighten the mcx4000 screws (thereby pushing on the mosfets) to install the heatsink :) pics at here

and more pics at here

my recent benchmarks with 1.02 beta bios at here

time for a question of my own..

anyone actually measure the read voltages the PRO2 board gives and not the bios set ones ?

i.e. under full load

1.6v in bios for vcore in MBM5 gives 1.52v

wondering what the vdimm's real voltage are ?

right now i'm testing on PX865PE PRO2 the following memory

4x 512MB Corsair XMS3200C2
2x 512MB Corsair XMS3500C2
2x 512MB Corsair XMS2700
4x 256MB OCZ PC3500 Premier
2x 256MB OCZ PC3700 Gold Dual
2x 256MB Geil PC3500 Dual

the latter bunch can really do well at >2.9v

I told Dr Pro @ albatron and suggested that vdimm in next bios be upped to at least 3.1-3.2v and vcore to at least 1.75v - they said their engineers are on it.. but i wonder if it's possible ??

For all of you with the Pro II, how good is the onboard sound? How does it compare to SB Live! 5.1? Does it come anywhere near Audigy 2? Is it really 24-bit/96Khz or is it limited by the codec (VT1616 I think) at all? How does it compare to the Audigy 2 card in terms of CPU utilization? Basically, any info about the onboard sound would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had the MCX4000 on order before posting, I basically wanted to find out before mounting it and could return it. But it fits fine in my Pro II (Barely touches the capacitors and the base of the heatsink doesn't get hot). It is tight though, I had to mount the studs as far right in the holes as possible (there is some play to move the studs around in the holes).

kaizersose heres my MBM settings, I used CPUZ 1.18 to verify them.

MBM settings:
MOBO Temp - Winbond 1
CPU Temp - Winbond 3 (MOBO seems to be higher than CPU until you load the CPU)

CPU Volt - W83627HF Standard 1
Aux Volt - Core 0
CPU Volt - Core 1
CPU Fan - W83627HF - 1
NorthBridge Fan - W83627HF - 3

eva2000, Welcome to AT forums :)
Heres my setup:
P4 2.6C SL6WH , pack date 5/24/2003
Pro 2 w/ BIOS 1.02b
2x 512MB Corsair XMS PC3500C2 sticks
MCX4000 HSF w/ 92mm Panaflow fan

What are your BIOS settings to overclock?
I seem to be having trouble getting it to OC :(

Some preliminary results with my new Pro II.

Easily overclocked my new 2.6C to 250 FSB for 3.25 Ghz.

I did not get my new RAM yet, so I'm using Corsair PC3200. I haven't looked closely at all the memory settings, so something probably needs attention. However, I can't boot at DDR 400. It loads, then reboots as it enters XP like the user reported above. At 2.6 and DDR 400, it works fine. I'm not too concerned at this point since I have new RAM coming in a day or two.

Additional comments:
Really nice board! Looks cool, most everything is placed well. Tons of features.

Minor complaints: the game port and a second serial port are on a seperate PCI slot mount. One serial port in the usual place, but there is an empty slot there. IMO, they should have put both serial ports on the PCI mount. Or they should have put a game port in the empty spot with everything else. I don't need either serial or game port at the moment however, but I see using a game port more than I would ever need a serial again. The 20 pin power connector is down on the side of the board. I had to move a hard drive to allow some space for the power cable. Sometimes when I launch IE it says that I am not connected to the Internet, but my connection is active. If I click retry, it connects fine.

Hey Woz,

When you get a chance, I would be most appreciative if you could check out the pro II's onboard sound (see my post above). Thanks.

eva2000,
Seems that undervolting is gonna hurt OCing the CPU, as for the RAM I havent't seen any apps that can measure the voltage. I saw your image link with your settings, nice setup! :)
...a few more fans and that bad boy will hover ;)
