OK, got the board but i have a couple of issues/ questions:

1. Can't install windows when my HD is on the raid controller IDE. Everything is enabled and i hit F6 during windows XP install to load promise drivers but it still does not see the HD. I am just going to put the HD on primary IDE and load promise drivers from windows and then switch the ide cable of HD to promise controller. Hopefully that will work.

I had the exact same problem, and I couldnt get HDD's to work on the Promise controller as standard hdd's even after installing drivers in Windows. After a few emails back and forth with Dr Pro, I have now been sent a 65PE103b Bios, which works perfectly for me with the HDD's now. hopefully it will be officially released soon.

Funky, I didn't have that problem, but I did have a problem with the Intel NIC booting instead of the Promise controller. Anyway, the new BIOS allows you to turn off the boot rom. 865PE Pro II 1.03b BIOS

Cool thanks for the info

Hi,

I have similar configuration (PX 865PE Pro, BIOS 1.15, P4 2.4C). Win XP SP1, Aida32 shows 49-50C idle, 59-61C full load, 60-65C full load OC @ 3.0 GHz. It seems sensor is calibrated that way and shows very near core temperature.
Take into account it?s very hot these days where I come from (> 30C).

Regards,
Tom

Thanks Tom. I'm using BIOS 1.16. Wonder if it makes a difference.

i have a 2.4c with the pro and my bios shows 45-52 deg. C while MBM shows about 35-40. when i asked customer support, they told me that sensors on the board would not integrate with 3rd party software and that they would be releasing their own soon.

someone mentioned that in the BIOS the cpu runs at 100%. is this true and if so, does that mean MBM is correct in its readings? thanks

Run something CPU intensive and if the maximum temperatures are the same, then yes.

Hi all:
Got my new 865PE PRO II last week. Working fine. However during boot up I notice that the bios screen showing the hard drive at ATA100.
I am running a SATA Seagate drive as the only hard drive on my system.
Is it normal for it to show as ATA100 or do I need to change something or bios upgrade. Or is it normal for it to show as that?
Thanks!

Hi,

I believe this is normal for 865PE chipset (SATA controller integrated in Southbridge).
I have PX865PE Pro and Seagate SATA 80 GB - disk is also visible as ATA100 in both enhanced and combined mode (Windows XP reports SATA as IDE controller in device manager).

Best regards,
Tom

I seem to have hit a brick wall with overclocking + SATA on my PX865PE Pro II. I have just purchased a 120Gb Western Digital SATA HDD, and at first I could not get the HDD to be detcted by the board on POST. I tried setting the differernt SATA modes, eg. Auto, Combined, Enhanced, all with no luck. So, I set the Bios to defaults and reset, then enabled SATA to Auto, and it was detected fine.

Later on I found out what caused the problem. If the SRC lock is set to anything other than "Auto", eg. 100mhz(default speed), the SATA HDD will switch off during POST. I was Happily running my 2.4C at 275fsb before getting the SATA HDD, now the system won't boot passed 225fsb. I have emailed Albatron, they replied basically saying that I shouldn't be overclocking, and there are no gaurantees. It looks like this board is going back to distributer, and I'll probably get an Abit IS7-G.

Can anyone else with a PX865PE Pro II + SATA HDD confirm this?

ANT ALBATRON REPLAY THIS :

Dear Customer,

Thank you for using our product, and sorry for the inconvenience.
Virtually, intel ICH5/ICH5R can't support to run when you overclock.
It's Intel chipset's limitation.
Besides, please notice overclock may damage system devices and make your
system unstable, and we won't guarantee it.
Please kindly understand it.
If you have further questions, please do feel free to contact us.
Thanks!

yeah, thats pretty much the same reply I got. what i'd like to know, is if its a limitation of the ICH5 chipset, then why does it have options in BIOS to set SRC to 100-114mhz in 1mhz increments? and also why the SRC lock function is working in the Gigabyte and Abit boards that I have looked at? I am certainly not impressed by it. thanks for the confirmation there palm :).

I recieved another email from Albatron:

Dear Customer,

Sorry for the inconvenience.
You may set the SRC at 100Mhz,not auto do check it again.
Please check it.
Thanks!

I replied with my results, and recieved this reply:

Dear Customer,

Sorry for the inconvenience.
It seems the SATA can't support to overclock. We will try to contact Intel to check it for you.
Please kindly understad it.
Thanks!

personally, I think that is a load of BS. And I have lost all faith in Albatron, I don't think their product testing is at a decent level, otherwise they would not have a board advertised as 1.2Ghz fsb capable with native SATA if the 2 can't coincide happily. I have ordered myself an Abit IS7-G.

You can still overclock the memory/system bus. It is only the AGP/PCI/SRC bus that you have to set to 66/33/100. I was pulling my hairs out when the mb won't detect my pata drives with a sata converter. Then I read this thread and found the my setting for the above was higher than stated. Now it is working fine. The above setting, if left at auto, could be way outside spec.

I am a new owner of your px865pe pro2 motherboard. I have some questions about the audio. I have 4 channel speaker setup with two leads plugged into the two green outputs on the motherboard. When using winamp to play mp3?s it won?t play music out of all 4 speakers. If I play a DVD the surround sound works great, I don?t need surround for playing mp3s or cd?s but I do want it to play on all 4 speakers. I installed the latest driver for the ENVY 24pt audio controller.

Are the any audio codecs i need to install, and has anyone heard anything about albatron providing a better audio interface for the controller.

If you could help me to resolve this problem I would very much appreciate it.

Try turning on the Magic 5.1 under the Subwoofer Advanced option in Output Control via the Volume Control.

Does anybody if the BIOS for Albatron 865PE Pro or Albatron 865 in general supports 48-bit LBA (i.e. HD bigger than 137G)? I asked Albatronusa and they said no because it was Award BIOS on the board. If it makes a difference, I like to use the SATA interface. TIA

Hi all,
I have the PX 865PE Pro 2, I have updated to the latest BIOS but cannot get the intel chipset driver to install (i get the this is not the chipset error). Do I have to enable the RAID to get these chipset drivers to install?
Thanks,

I've also experienced problems with my SATA 120GB Seagate 7200.7 hard drive and overclocking on the Pro II. I get MUCH better results when using the PATA drive from my old box.

Another thing I've noticed is that the left/right stereo channels of the onboard audio seem to be reversed. I use headphones on the expansion slot, but I've also tried them on the socket for front speakers. Same problem. Do any other Pro II owners get this with their onboard audio?

Does anyone have the PX865PE Pro running with the RAM set to 2.66 Turbo mode? Even if I leave the FSB at default, which would mean the RAM was running below it's rated speed, when I restart I just get a long beep that repeats every few seconds and can't even get back to the BIOS. It doesn't seem like the RAM is the problem however since I can run it at 2.5 with the FSB overclocked to 160 and get no errors running Memtest86. It's just at 2.66 it won't boot no matter what other settings I use.

And to the question above, I just installed a 160GB hard drive with this board and it recognized the drive correctly.

Anyone? The manual for this board says the available DDR:CPU ratios when using a 133mhz processor are 2x, 2.5x and 2.66x and at the end of the manual their overclocking example shows a 133mhz processor at 150mhz with the 2.66x ratio making the RAM speed DDR400.
