OMG OMG DUDE!! I think i have it fixed!! Someone just posted this info on the abit forums that he found elsewhere...

"Well I might have fixed my problem.. Read on another forum that you should disable the last two memory settings in the game accelerator menu, ie Read Delay Adjust and Command Per Clock.. Before I did this, I could not get any higher than 260 FSB stable using 2XCorsair 512MB PC3500C2.. Once I changed the two settings to disable, default is auto, I can now run at 283 FSB prime95 and 3DMark2001SE stable.. So if you're having issues like I was, give it a shot.."

Testing it now with these settings

NBS800
1:1
FIXED agp lock
2.65v
2,6,3,3

Running memtest right now, its at pass 12!!! ITs NEVER gotten that far without an error!! OMFG!! Looks like i wont need that 3700 afterall. :D

Quick question for anyone that already has an IC7 or IC7-G

What is the sound level of the northbridge fan?

If it is louder then your power supply can I buy a quieter version fan to cool the northbridge?

Thanks

Ok I'm putting my first non-store bought comp. The MoBo, Cd-R, Floppy, RAM, vid card, hdrive, etc are all in. When I turn it on...the mobo seems to be on because of the green light, but when I hit the power button on the case, nothing happens. No lights and nothing really runs except for the green light from the mobo. Also when I push the power button from the case there is this red light that flashes 1 to 3 times on the mobo for like a milisecond and makes this lil ZZZIT sound. The power supply works because when I plugged it into a power supply tester as opposed to the mobo, the fans that I attached it to ran, this was completely seperate from the mobo. Basically, it seems (though I am no expert) that items connected to the mobo don't work. I have reset the BIOS and it still doesn't work. I don't have it hooked up to a moniter yet because I want to make sure the fans (espec the CPU fan) work before I start running it for an extended period of time.

Thanks... all help appreciated.

Wow, I was just about to come in here and ask a question about that.

A little while ago I heard that earlier releases of the IC7 have a northbridge fan that is kind of defective in that it can get incredibly loud. Is that true? If so, I think I've got one. It seems as though the northbridge fan gets kinda loud off-and-on. What would be a good fan to replace it with?

If your running those tests with new RAM and your still getting errors, then it sounds like you have a defective Motherboard. I'm assuming that you got your replacemnt RAM sticks, if so most likely a bad MB.

JB,

If it fails, it'll do in pass 1. I usually stop it after 5 passes, thinking that if it passes that far along, it's OK.

Right now I am running it at 228MHz, 5:4, PSB800, Fixed AGP/PCI, and 2.7v on the DRAM. It passes all Memtest86.

The idle temp on the CPU (using Hardware Doctor 2.71) is 50, The system is 34, and the PSU 34. These temps go up about 10 derees at stress, but it depends a lot on the weather outside!

I think a limitation I have on the PC is the SCSI card I am using, as well as the PCI Audigy card. I also have 3 CD/DVDs installed (2 SCSI, 1 IDE).

I just do not understand why the RAM is fine at 220MHz, 1:1, PSB800, and 2.7v, which is RAM at 440MHz, BUT it fails at 230MHz, 5:4 PSB800, Fixed AGP/PCI, and 2.7v, which is RAM at ONLY 368MHz??? BTW, this crash in Memtest86; I have never felt that in Windows, not even during Sandra or 3DMark2001 performance checks.

KillerBob, did you ever try setting your RAM to Vdimm 2.8V? I couldn't really get a successful, stable OC to what I like until I bumped my Vdimm up to 2.8. Yet when running the FSB divider at 5:4, it should be easy to get up to at Least FSB 250Mhz. Just a thought, as it seems your Vdimm would hold you back a bit when O'Cing.

Hi,

I am building a CAD workstation with the following specification.

P 4 3.0 GHz 800 FSB
Abit IC7-G motherboard
2 x Corsair XMS 3500 512 MB RAM
2 x Western Digital Raptor 36 GB for striping
Ati Fire GLX1 graphics card
Sony DWU-10A DVD Writer

Windows XP professional

The machine boots fine and starts XP installation. However, I am having trouble in getting XP to recognise the RAID drivers during installation. XP is unable to read the drivers from the floppy that came with the motherboard. It just asks me to insert the "manufacturer-supplied hardware installation disk".

I have downloaded the drivers from Abit's website and I am still having the same problem. Many users in this forum seem to have successfully installed the Raptor drives in RAID 0 configuration using this motherboard. My BIOS is dated 27/03/2003. I would be grateful to anyone who could help me in this matter. I need to install this machine tomorrow. Thanks a lot.

2.7/2.8, it doesn't make a difference at the 228/230 problem. Giving the DIMMs 2.8 helped me in 220/1:1. but in 230/5:4 I still get errors in Memtest. Works in Windows though.

Are you sure your floppy drive is working properly?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I have changed many floppy drives with the same result. The setup tries to read and just asks for disk labeled "manufacturer-supplied hardware support disk". I also moved all the RAID drivers outside their folders. Still, the setup can't read the drivers.

Did you ever get the OC to work? If so what made it work? Just curious since I have dabbled with this a little and wanted to know how you fared.

I'm the one who actually made the post about disabling those two settings.. Sure worked for me.. Now got my 2x512MB Corsair PC3500C2 running at 283 FSB at 5:4 ratio.. Best I could do before was 265 FSB.. Knew it couldn't have been the ram as I went through 4 different manufactuer of 512MB PC3500 modules all with the same FSB limit before those two setting changes.. Several others have used those setting I've recommended and now are all past the FSB limit with ratios..

When you all say the NB fan is noisy, do you mean throughout use, or just when you boot up? Lately my NB fan has started to make "dragging" noises when I initially boot up after a few hours of being turned off (not that it happens often, but).

Is this the legendary NB fan issue, and should I contact the dealer asking for a new MoBo, or simply a replacement NB fan?

yeah... what the heck is up with the system forgetting the boot order? anyone who is having trouble with booting with the 1.4 bios, your hard drive boot order has been changed in the advanced bios settings... your primary is now after your "other devices..."

i had better get a fix for that soon... came thirty seconds from reformatting at a LAN party thinking it was the pissy harddrive

Likewise. I unplugged my 120mm blowhole fan just to see if I could hear the NB fan, but I couldn't. Maybe some people got rwally loud ones or maybe they are the aural equvalent of the princess and the pea.

This is for dwb22. It looks by the change in Icon probably not.

Well I guess its time to add mine too...

P4 2.4c / IC7 Bios 14
1gig Kingston 3500 HyperX
Seagate Barracuda 7200 80gig +120gig HDDs
Powercolor Radeon 9700
SBlive 5.1 digital OEM
Linksys 10/100 Lancard
DVD rom + CR-rw

right now I've had it running burn in at:

Vcore: 1.575 (1.54 reported by hardware doc)
DDR: 2.8 (2.77)
AGP: 1.55
250FSB
DDR ratio 5:4 (200X4 =1000mhz bandwidth)
NB strap 800
Fixed AGP/PCI 66/33

CAS 2 2,6,2,2

All the other settings are pretty much all set to Auto, except, that IDE bus master is on, firewire and audio disabled.

Before I bumbed the Vcore and DDR (they were at 1.550 & 2.6 respectively) the system booted but Prime95 failed at test 17, right now its balsting through test 1300... :) these were done with Seti@home running to load the other logical processor.

Cpu temps are 48.5c/64c for 0%/100%
case temp 25c
pwm 49.5c

just wondering if these are a bit on the high side... maybe I should stop being lazy and replace the thermal pad with artic silver. :p

If Prime95 cam complete the torture test I'll run some 3dmark03 to see if its stable.

UPDATE: Well, Prime ran for 45 mins with no errors w/ Seti running at the same time, 3dmark03 ran thru all tests once with no problems returning a score of 4323 (this is the patched version.)

Thugs said on another thread that the IC7 over reports temps by 15C, if that's really the case I shouldn't have anything to fret about and I'll just keep them at these settings.

Nope, never got it to work. I really can't think of anything aside from flashing the 1.3 bios from the 1.4 I'm using, but I don't know how much that will help. I've tried countless setting combinations and I can't get the damn thing to boot with the FSB clocked 1mhz over the stock speed.
