I went with it because of price, and the 875p apparently is very tolerate of tight memory, so I was looking for a memory that went up in mhz in Cas 2, for low price

I eagerly await said report

I heard that the Bios version 1.1 fixes the Corsair TwinX 3200LL problem. Does anyone know if this is true? That's the only thing holding me back from buying this board.

Is there any memory brand that has 2x512MB chips that can run at 400MHz and 2-2-2-6 or 2-2-2-5 on this mobo??? I hear that the corsair TwinX PC3200LLs have issues. Do the Kingston PC3200 tested at 2-2-2-6 have or had the same problem???

I too have heard that the 1.1 bios fixes the 3200LL issues, but Corsair is still recommending the 3500C2 because the board can handle 3500 RAM so well. It's late and I am tired so I am paraphrasing what I have read at the Corsair support forums. At any rate, I decided to take their word for it and go ahead and order some.

Now if Ajump would get their order of IC7-Gs in and the blasted 2.6c would hit the market I would be able to tell you how it does. :disgust:

Anyone see Tom's "review" of those i875P's..... Here's his take on the IC7-G...

In a nutshell: overclockers will definitely be disappointed by this board, as the performance is clearly below expectations. You can't run a RAM module with maximum timings. Otherwise, it's a very generous setup at a sensible price.

Are any 'overclockers,' in reality, dissapointed by this board?

I saw this and can say as an overclocker this thing is great, I'm sitting at 181MHZ FSB with my 2.53GHZ SL6S2 @ 3.44GHZ...couldn't be happier really. I had the Asus P4C800 Deluxe and it dissapointed me, especially due to the bug where it couldn't go over 165-199 and then could do 200.

Anyone know if/when a new bios will be out to fix the Serille 2 adaptor problems? I'm sticking with 1.0 until I find out that everything works...

I still dont understand why playing with random non-vital parameters in the bios (v11) such as alarm settings sometimes keeps the board from posting... this is starting to drive me nuts. unoverclocked, i actually had a hard freeze in the bios a minute ago... what the hell is going on?

this is the exact kind of crap that i KNOW is going to nail me when i really need it to work the most... anyone know if we're getting a new bios in the iminent future?

my friends seem to think its because the board wants to set my Corsair 3200C2 so agressively... C2-2-2-2-6?

anyone?

Has anyone had any problems with the 12v connecter? It looks a little tight from the pictures I've seen.

ace, I doubt anything you're changing in bios, or the fact that you're going into bios has much to do with your problem.

you've got something going on that'll happen randomly on any boot, I bet, regardless of BIOS tweaking. First things I'd check would be all connections, board mounting, powersupply, memory.

could just have a bad board, too, i suppose, it certainly happens.

Probably not related but just an FYI:

Occasionally when I enter the BIOS instead of the BIOS "blue" screen I get a solid blue bar on the bottom and have to reset until the BIOS comes up. Also, once in the BIOS when I go to the "PC Health" screen the BIOS locks b/4 I can change any settings.
This also used to happen with my TH7-II.
Researching the problem I eventually found that it was my power supply fan! I'm running an Enermax w/the fan wire plugged into the 3-pin mb header. When I disconnect the fan the problems above are gone.
The end result: the fan is thermally controlled and spins up slowly-the low RPMS on boot cause the inability to get into BIOS and the "PC Health" screen freeze.
Just another thing to consider.

No problems here. I'm using a Zalman CNPS7000-CuAl as well. There was plenty of room to get to the 12V connector with everything installed.

Blue bar during some bios loads.... Hard lock in the pc health screen... its funny, the one setting i was changing had to do with the controls on my TMD CPU fan on the motherboard's header.... Those ARE the random issues i've been running into....

when, of course, the computer doesent think ive changed the hard drives or when it simply refuses to post (or even display video of any kind)

gentlemen... I beleive we have established a trend...

I remember reading how some people received their boards with broken pins or something from Newegg due to poor packaging? Is this still a problem? I plan on ordering the IC7 from Newegg but would hate to have to RMA the board and wait even longer.

ginfest: I too have an enermax ps plugged into the mb header; however, when I disconnected it, my problems with the bios did not go away; I still can't get into the bios!

That s**ks. I know that the issue 1st came up with my Abit TH7-II and that others were having the same problem with different BIOS.
Someone at the Overclockers.com forums eventially came up with the Enermax " low speed fan" on motherboard headers idea, I tried it and it worked back then so when I ran into the problem with the IC7-G I immediately assumed the same and in my case it did work.
Maybe some other fan on one of the headers is causing your prob?
Sorry, that's all I can think of right now but at least hitting reset you should eventually be able to get the BIOS up.
Now until a few of you guys have mentioned it I thought that it was only me having the same problem with this board. Looks like I'm not alone but I read 4-5 diff forums every day and haven't seen this problem mentioned with the IC7-G anywhere else.
Weird, maybe I'll do some posting tomorrow and see how prevalent it is.

Hi guys, just assembled my Abit rig and want to offer some thoughts:

System consists of:

Abit IC-7 G
P IV 2,53
2 * 512MB Nanya 2,5 333 RAM
Sapphire Radeon 9700 (new red pcb!)
2 Seagate SATA 80gb drives in raid 0 on Silicon controller (where are the 2k drivers, intel?)
Plextor 48X CDRW IDE Master on secondary IDE
NEC DVD as slave on sec. IDE
Floppy
All in an Antec Sonata case with 380 true power psu.

I hooked the system up with just RAM,CPU and the VGA card and the system fan (120mm Antec) connected to the "fan only" power plugs. Those are temperature controlled and cause the fan to be really silent. I press the power button...
It boots.... and shuts down after 5-10 seconds. I disconnect the FAN and it works. Then I hooked the fan to a normal power plug (not even a shared one). Same problem. I just disconnect the fan and begin my install. W2K sp 2 installs
and everything appears ok except that the USB 2 drivers are NOT installed. I check the cd again and there is no button to install them. I look for the inf files on the cd but all you find is a cab file. How am I supposed to solve this? There is zero help on the Abit site.
I try the fan again after everything is installed and ...it works. Strange. I need to check if the "fan only" plug wotrks now too.
Another annoying thing is that you can´t disable the power management. You can choose between S1 or S3, but no disable! This can´t be right. The side effect is that every second time I do a restart in windows, the system shuts down!
I need to press the power button again.

Apart from those "oddities", I really like the board. The SATA RAID is awesome but I wish I could use the intel solution.

If anyone has suggestions how to get the USB 2 running I am all ears...

Hey,

I got the computer set up today with an IC7, a 2.4C, and Geil ultra platinum.

The computer has:
IC7
2.4C
2x256mb Geil PC3500 Ultra Platinum
XP Professional,
Sony 16X DVD
Sony Floppy
Maxtor 40 gig 5400 RPM EIDE
Hercules Geforce 2 64mb
D-Link NIC
Cheiftec Dragon Case
Energmax 365 Watt PSU
Standard Heatsink, artic silver thermal paste(poorly applied I think)

No issues setting up the board, (this is my first time building) or installing windows, everything was very easy. Unfortanetly I damaged the Thermal Pad on the heatsink, so I removed it an replace it with Artic Silver, but I did a crappy job covering it evenly, because I didn't have quite enough. I think this raising the temperatures a bit. Its currently 46C, but its been running lightly for about 8 hours.

I started overclocking (on this board, and in general) about an hour ago. I have the 2.4C on a 5:4 ratio, running at 3 ghz. DDR 400.

The timings are CAS 2, 6-3-3. THe board defaulted to CAS 2.5, 8-4-4, I haven't tried 6-2-2 , or 4-2-2. I'm running the ram at 2.7 volts, but I think I'm going to move it up to 2.8.

I locked the AGP/PCI ratio to fixed.

I didn't touch core voltage, N/B strap, or any other settings, just the ratio, the FSB speed, and the memory timings.

I tried FSB of 271, but failed and had to clear CMOS, no problems there either. I'm going to try an intermediate FSB soon, and download the Intel Application Acclerator, SP1, and update the bios.

All in all, the motherboard is great, I think the ram will be fine once I increase the voltage, and I recommend both. The CPU is fantastic, loads times are practically instant, even with a slow drive and a 4 year old video card. (9700 Pro coming ASAP).

I'll try more overclocking tommarrow and post again,

Kevin

re: usb drivers

I thought Windows XP Service Pack 1 (or 2?) enabled USB2 support?. Windows XP by default doesnt support the new USB standard iirc.

Merry Xmas. BTW I spent 3 hours tonight hunting down the damn driver, it wouldn't find it on Windows Update. Found the ICH4 ones too

Read the Anand review - FINALLY... Thought it was a bit harsh on the layout comments - Does anyone really have simpathy for someone who shells out more than $200 for a mobo and doesn't get a quality power supply for it - I run an Antec 480 and if anything the mobo power cables are to freakin long... I also find the horizontal layout of the IDE connectors to be easier to use and route cables - even ribbon type.

I agree with Anand's comments on the layout. The IDE cables that came with the IC7 were too short. I'm using a cheiftec Dragon case, and from the primary IDE the cable barely reaches the DVD drive in the 2nd lowest bay. I can only attach one device to each IDE, o well. I only have 2 IDE devices right now, I'll worry about it later, It would have been better if they at least switched the primary IDE and the floppy connector. Its not a huge deal, but it was a pain in the ass, since I had to run out to find round IDE cables, which were about $25 at CompUSA

I thoght it was a good review and certainly consider it more reliable than others that I have read.
AFA the power connectors, while it is a concern for some as the poster above my Enermax leads are almost too long so the layout doesn't bother me.
And I feel the IDE style and placement are better than the old style, makes it easier for me to keep the cables out of the way.

Which memory
kingston hyperX pc3500 or Mushkin PC3200 222 would be the best ?
getting a 2.6 and want to run it at 3.0+

thanks big time
