@virtuamike: I have an ABIT, not an Asus, so using the USB2 driver from Asus is not an option. Thx anyway.

@jrwood: I use w2k, sp 2, no XP here (as indicated by my gripes about the intel drivers or lack thereof)

I will check out the Anandtech review now. I found the board layout PERFECT. I use a rather small case, so the cables
were perfect. Large case owner need to upgrade though. I cannot understand why ANY reviewer could say that the IDE ports mounted sideways would be a drawback. It is THE PERFECT WAY to mount them. No pressure on the board when connecting, cables can be routed easier, etc.. If someone uses a case where the 3 1/2 cage is too near to the headers, it is probably a very cheap one, which does not fit the typical system builders/canterwood users.

If anyone has info on the USB 2 drivers, I would appreciate it.

Does anyone know if they are going to get the memory timings and speed problem fixed any time soon? Even with the 1.1 bios the IC7-G gets stomped pretty bad by every other board because it cant keep the timings or speed up.

there are no memory timing issues on the IC7 I have.... C2-2-2-2-6 doesent lie on corsair 3200C2...

i want the hard freezing in this bios fixed... there is no reason why my bios shouldnt post because i was changing the thorottling settings on the cpu fan...

PLEASE ABIT UPDATE THE BIOS

Wow, I cant believe someone else had this same problem. I had an Abit th7-raid motherboard and it would rarely ever let me into the bios without locking up and would always lock up when I went into the pc health staus screen. I finally figured out that it would work fine if I didn't plug one of my case fans into the 3 pin header on the motherboard. That is really weird!!!

Do not plug any fans into the 3 pin headers on the motherboard at all and see what happens. It is not just with enermax powersupplies as I had it happen to me on my abit th7-raid motherboard just by having a case fan plugged into it. Once I unplugged all of the fans from the motherboard it let me into the bios more often than not. I think this is a serious problem that a lot of abit boards have and I can't figure out why they haven't fixed it.

I'm now even more glad I bought the Enermax Fan Controller drive bay insert.

Check the drivers. It's generic for ICH5 USB2.0 support, it's not brand specific

I have a 10 fan case... only one runs off a lead from the motherboard- the cpu fan. Can someone explain to me WHY I can't use it on the board? I dont use sata, integrated audio, firewire or any other feature. I use the fan headers and I get the problems. what the !@#$ kind of board is this (aside from really stable and hated by tom's)?

I wish the problems i am having with the stability and post-worthiness of the bios were isolated to my problems with the health status screen and fan headers but I swear that trying to make the board boot using anything other than "BUTTON ONLY" caused the same issue about an hour before i hopped into the limo for senior prom- I recovered it with only a few minutes to go after a battery out, extended cmos flash.

is it too much to ask for some bios stability here? how about some feedback from Abit?

I love this board- its stability in windows is unprecidented to me. Its a shame it doesent love me back in the bios.

All,

May be a daft question, but should I use the onboard sound or my PCI Audigy? I play games, watch flics, and listen to music.

I'm using 4 of the 5 fan headers on my IC7 and powering up with "password", not "button only". Not a single issue here. Stable as can be.

How fast is your fan? I think the problem is caused by a fan that spins too slowly, or at least, that the BIOS deems is too slow. This would be the case of a temperature-controlled fan, like the ones found in Antec power supplies, or a fan with a 7v mod done on it.

Which one of the RAID controllers would offer better performance with 2 WD Raptors in RAID 0?

I'd use the onboard, unless that audigy gives you something you absolutely must have that onboard doesn't. The onboard sound is *good*. We've come a long way from the craptastic onboard audio days.

On the other hand, I'd rather have no sound than install one of Creative's custom conflict creators, and associated bloatware.

The one from the southbridge

I agree. I have got a pair of them on teh ICH5R on my IC7-G. Works hella fast!!!

ketchup79-

Its a TMD fan... 70mm... I think winbond reports it at around 6000 rpm, possilby a little more. I'm not going into my bios again until I hear something more definite about a bug fix for the stability... I just wish we could pinpoint the causes. I have already refered Abit tech's support to this thread.

Hmmmm???? Why cant abit seem to fix this? This is so odd. I have never had that kind of problem on any other motherboard ever, only abit motherboards. I think there may be some truth to it only happening on low rpm fans but even so, thats not good because not everyone wants loud fans. Is it possible abit is not aware of this problem?

I'm using Panaflo L1A fans which are low rpm and have no rpm monitoring at all. I have never seen the problem discussed here. The only fan I have that has rpm monitoring is the one that is on the NB.

If the only fan you have connected to your motherboard is the cpu fan you shouldn't have any problems. From what I have been reading on this forum so far it seems like it is only caused by low rpm fans. A cpu fan is usually not a very low rpm fan. Definitely dont disconnect your cpu fan and try to boot up o.k. That could burn up your cpu quickly. Try unconnecting all non essential wires like hdd led, extra usb bracket, etc. and try to boot up with only the video card in (no other pci cards). Also try disconnecting all harddrives, cd drives, and floppy drives and just boot with only what is required to post (cpu, ram, videocard, keyboard). See if you can at least get into the bios. If not then we will try to figure out something else. Sounds to me like abit's bios is not very stable and needs a major update!
