First ever post.

The AT8 is available at ZipZoomFly for $115 shipped - as of two minutes ago they are listed as in stock here:

I ordered on this afternoon, but I won't be ready to put it together right away - my home office is presently turned upside down.

I am new to system building, though not to computers. I had been considering the Asus A8R after hearing positive things about it from a from a friend of mine who works for the "red team", but I had been looking for this one for a while and I semi-impulsively jumped on it when I saw it on ZZF.

Anyway, when I get to building it I'll post something here so any other noobs like myself know what they're getting into 🙂

The board resets the cas to 3 whenever you reboot.
Which is a pain.
I am using ocz 3200vx
using a 3700+ SD testing at 230fsb now

that's because you have BH-5/UTT - as per the TechPowerUp review.
It will be fixed in a BIOS no doubt - at least it's looking a better option than either the DFI or ASUS.

So far:
Pros:
Overclocking is looking decent, i'm currently testing at 255 FSB
Sound is really nice
Temps are good
performs well
Good packaging and documentation
kind of cool looking, although the orange and teal is a bit weird

Cons:
Had trouble with my Hitachi T7K250, can't tell if it was because of lack of drivers or what, but the installation went goofy and services and stuff weren't being started in windows. Works great on my IDE HD though. The pins on the SATA HDD were slightly messed up, so that could be the problem too.
Can't seem to get 1T timing to work at DDR500, even though it should. It worked at DDR400, not sure about in between.
IDE connectors are laid out sideways, making it hard to plug them in.

Overall, the board's looking pretty damn solid, and hopefully the memory issues will be resolved with a driver update.

update: So far I have the FSB up to 285, and by using a 5/6 memory divider, i got the 1T memory timings to work - i guess the replacement Ballistix modules aren't quite as fast as the ones I used to have.

update: able to post and boot into windows with fsb 312 x9. But not prime stable.
Also, I am experiencing the same memory timing problems. I have PQI Turbo's and if I reset with cas 2, it will reset to cas 3 on next boot. Very odd indeed.

How is this board running for those how had time to tinker with it. Any thing beside the memory been a issue. I saw that Zipzoomfly raised the price of this board 30 dollars since monday, now it is at 140. I hope newegg doesn't follow suit. Otherwise I am planning to order one when newegg gets them back in stock.

hmm seems like a decent board, all I want is 300 HTT! 😀

I am thinking about getting this board, but if it have problems with BH5, does it mean I would have problem with TCCD coz of the 2-2-2-5 timing ( I have 2 stick of Corsair XLPro 2-2-2-5)?

hey, is anyone else having trouble with running games? For some reason, I've tried several configurations - 1:1 memory, high speed and latency; memory divider, low latency; low clockspeed, high clockspeed, etc. I've gotten them all to run prime95 stable, they can run superpi fine, they run 3dmark05 fine. but I've experienced random lockups on battle for middle earth, black and white 2, and dragonshard. somtimes after 15 minutes, sometimes after 3 hours. I don't get a BSOD, just lockups. Could this be a video problem? I have a 6600GT OC'd to 570/1160, could the card be crashing? I'm not getting artifacting or anything.

Oh, BTW, the new Bios 1.1 is pretty nice, it fixes the CAS latency problem and allows for DDR300 and 366 memory dividers.

if you have a crossfire board with an nvidia card that might be an issue, if that isn't well the card being OC'd could do it too. Try slowing it down a bit and see what happens

Yea i had that problem while playing COD2, but it was easily fixed once i decreased my video card's core clock by 3 from my OC'ed frequency. Try and run the games with stock video card speeds and see if the errors persist.
