I can box jump all day long, but thrusters will crush me. A gym mate of mine calls them fucksters - for good reason

I think a 1RM will be included in 16.5. Hopefully split jerk or clean. If its snatch than I am proper fucked.

I'm expecting another thruster couplet or triplet for time. We've not seen a for-time workout yet or thrusters. Likely either box jumps or maybe burpees again if they feel evil. Not sure if they'd put in another hand buster but one interesting idea I heard thrown around yesterday was a variation of Fran where you do burpee pull-ups.

I don't think we'll see a 1RM at this point.

Interesting article on 16.5

I am going with thrusters and box jumps for time

Meh those barbell spin articles where they solicit input from the athletes are stupid. The responses are so horseshit for the most part haha.

Did an interesting one in our comp class last night:

-Ascending thruster ladder EMOM, starting at 95# increase by 20# each minute until failure
-Bergeron Beep Test, EMOM do:
- 7 thrusters (75#)
- 7 pull ups
- 7 burpees
Go until can't complete a round

Strangely enough, I could definitely see the above programmed. For all the amateurs, you're only working out for 6-7 minutes in the strength part and for the metcon only 3-4 minutes max. For elite athletes, you'll get into 10-12 minutes in the strength part and up to 20+ minutes on the beep test. They could shorten how long people go by adding another rep or two or increasing weight.

Did you all see that Josh Bridges won 16.4 but had a 15% penalty applied because of numerous no reps on his video? Watch the video - it's a bro rep fest...

The whole situation pisses me off. So many armchair judges and coaches crying foul from behind a computer screen when presented with a video from a shitty angle. If you video'd anyone from that angle it wouldn't look like they got their shoulders behind the bar. Anyways, what's done is done and mob mentality reigns supreme as usual.

Anyways, onto 16.5. I'm excited by this one. I did well on 15.5 last year and provided I can pace myself on the burpees I should do fairly well. I'm hoping for a sub-10:00 score but we'll see!

Lol, oh how I was wrong. I have no idea what I was thinking when I said sub ten.

Anyways, got 15:31 RX. After watching most of the rest of my people in my gym, I'm pretty happy with that.

So now that it is all said and done:

2015:
Regional (Southern California): 3,272
World: 67,226

2016:
Regional (Southern California): 1,710
World: 36,534

2017:
Regional (Southern California): Sub 1000
World: Sub 20,000

Well done

I committed to going scaled for all 5 workouts, so anyone doing Rx will rank above me even if they hit only 1 rep each week. My overall world rank is 89805. That said, I did pretty well at least as far as my personal goals are concerned. I ranked #5 in my age group in the south east for those doing all scaled. Next year, I will commit to Rx and see how that plays out. Hopefully, I'll have things like HSPU and Muscle-ups by then...

That's pretty good ranked up against your specific age group! That's the only metric that really matters anyways!
