Can't believe the Kings pulled it out against SJ...I was ready to write it off after 13 seconds in.

If they can hang around in the first half of the season, they might actually make the playoffs higher than a 5 seed...although the way SJ and COL are playing, I doubt it.

Ughh. Ozzy is so not ready to be a color commentator.

I thought they were grooming Drapes to be the road guy in place of Mickey?
I never heard that about Drapes. Isn't he working with the front office (or scouts) and not the network?
And I completely agree about Ozzy. I remember him talking late in the 3rd about how Howie covered the puck instead of opting to clear it, because the goalie knows how well the team is doing in D-zone faceoffs. I thought to myself, that's the first insight that I can think of, that I have truly appreciated.

I miss Murph! As it seems most fans do. I wonder what the real reason was that FSD let him go. Seems it has to be more than his on-air personality.

Last I heard, he was doing radio commentary. They even showed him once last season during a game, Mickey was talking about him.

Some of his insight is great, he obviously knows what he is talking about, other times I think he is just trying to fill air. He needs to get comfortable and not be so awkward. But he was interviewed on TV a thousand times over 10 years, if he isn't sociable by now, he's not gonna be, IMO.

I was kinda neutral on murph. But he was easily better to listen to than Ozzy in his present state.

Wasn't he on the sauce? Gotta wash down those $1 hotdogs somehow 😛

I'm sure he'll get better over time. At least I hope so... I'm a huge Ozzy fan.

When my wife was a teen, she used to deliver pizzas to his house in Plymouth all the time. Said he avoided answering the door at all costs. She said in maybe 100 deliveries, he only answered the door himself once, it was usually his mom paying for the pizza. She also said they never tipped for shit.

On the other hand, ask any Plymouth native about Ozzy and they all have a story about running into him at Sean O'Callahans, and all you have to do is say hi and he buys you drinks. Apparently drunk Ozzy buys rounds like there's no tomorrow.

I actually saw Avs fans speculating that Downie was traded because he was sleeping with Varlamov's girlfriend. Seems... unlikely, she doesn't speak English.

It's funny seeing Avs fans react to this. On NHL message boards it's all "innocent until proven guilty" and "say it ain't so, Joe" but on Avs message boards it's "the bitch is liar."

Flyers are a MESS. After giving up 5 goals in the second period Holmgren talked to the team during the intermission? How often does a GM address the team in the middle of a game?

The Flyers responded by starting a line brawl during which Downie was concussed, Lecavalier got a facial injury and will miss at least tomorrow's game, and Ray Emery attacked an unwilling Braden Holtby.

Emery, with a .733 save percentage and 4 goals against, was the game's third star. 🙄

wow Holtby got rocked so hard.. it was actually really sad
OMG Latta is such a damn pussy. He just looked at the ref like why aren't you stoping it, while Holtby was getting manhandled by Emery. GET IN THERE YOU PUSSY!!!

Yes it was for the fight, and he was selected by this asshole: https://mobile.twitter.com/DNFlyers/status/396449216555282433?screen_name=DNFlyers

This is interesting, because the announcer always says that the three stars are voted on by the attending media, but based on this it was either a one man vote or he was responsible for taking the vote and just threw Emery in of his own volition. I've always wondered how they vote so quickly when the game goes to overtime and the guy who scored the game winner is one of the stars.

I saw some analysis on home bias in the three stars vote recently, and there were some interesting trends. IIRC in Boston the second star is a visiting player 95% of the time while the first and third stars are usually Bruins. This implies that the same guy always picks the stars, or everyone just sticks to the "tradition" of giving the second star to a visitor.

Edit: the guy who named Emery third star was escorted out of the arena because he kept asking which player was taken away in an ambulance. It was Downie.

Agreed. Messing with the team chemistry when you're 10 - 1 just isn't right.

Downie had already been demoted to the third line because he was providing zero offense and was beginning to be an offensive liability. As unlikely as it may seem to people on the east coast whom I guarantee haven't watched even 10% of the games I've seen since I've watched every Avs game this year, we are winning because of defense and goaltending not because of Downie getting calls on reputation alone and finding himself in the box every game.

And surprise we are 11-1 now without Downie after a tough game with what happened with Varlamov, meanwhile the flyers get straight pwned like no team has this year and Downie is now out with a concussion brawling during a game that meant absolutely nothing.

My biggest issue with the trade was having to see poor Downie go to one of the worst team's in the league. Meanwhile we got stronger defensively and on the pk.

Only holmgren is one game away from winning the cup and then trades his two best players, and then people still give him the benefit of the doubt because it appears he won a trade on paper. He is one of the worst gms in hockey and the Avs may have not gotten the greatest value on paper but it is exactly the kind of trade the Avs made prior to winning our first cup too. Mats sundin for sylvan lefebvre or owen Nolan for sandis ovolinch didn't look good on paper either or the other trades that setup that winning team. Only time will tell how this trade will work out but here's hoping it works out like those

Hey, don't sell the Rangers short. They may not have been shut out, but they gave up 9 goals, 4 to a rookie including the most embarrassing goal given up this year.

emery is a piece of shit... he should get a lengthy suspension

the ref that allowed that fight to even occur should be reprimanded too...

to the poster asking why no capital jumped in, the ref made sure they couldn't

best part about this all... Holtby stayed in the game and still got a 7-0 shutout win
