I found this on a blog and so far I have been able to verify most of it:

A priest administered last rites. Following kidney removal surgery, his football coach told him he would never play again. He was lucky to be alive. He responded by petitioning the school to be allowed to suit up. The player’s name? Mike Shanahan.

Wiki verifies everything but his petitioning the school to let him play again.

I don't really believe anything that slithers out of Shanahan's mouth. I still stand by my original observation in the 1st quarter where Bob3 came up gimpy after being tackled out of bounds. After that hit he was clearly hurt and a detriment to his team. Both player and coach need to take some blame on decision to come back in. This is a lot different than the Cutler injury a few years back vs. the Packers. Nobody would have called Bob3 a wimp/weak teamate/loser/quitter/whatever if he didn't come back in after that. I think the decision to stay in was a poor one especially given the quality of their backup QB in Cousins.

It was a choice driven by arrogance and it certainly help cost them the game and possibly a season of recovery for their franchise QB.

I don't think it's anything to do with "hindsight". It wasn't a "gut" instinct, it was pure arrogance in riding his pony until it crumbled. Anyone could see that RG3 was clearly hurt, heavily limited in movement and definitely not himself by the end of the first quarter.

Out of the 3 rookie QBs this weekend, barring unable to fully see RG3s effect since his injury late 1st quarter.

I believe Russel wilson looked the best of the 3 when all was said and done after all 4 games finish.

Just one more instance of a low round pick qb outperforming higher picks. Tom Brady was a 6th pick, Joe Montana a 3rd rounder.

I agree, that hit and he could barly walk yet they kept playing him.
Also his pass quality dropped a lot after that as well.

So he could not run anymore and his throwing accuracy went down yet they kept him in. 😵

His, RG3, interview after the game sounded like he was worried that Cousins was aiming for his job and he did not want him to come in. He kept saying I am the starter, I am the QB of this team, etc...

They're all rookies. Let's let them play a few years before we enshrine them in Canton.

This. Careers are years in the making, not a single season.

Luck will probably be the better qb, he definitely needs a better o-line. But, I think for qb's, unless you have a Luck, an Elway, or a Manning, using a first round slot to pick one is a gamble more likely to go bad than bring in a franchise qb.

Running back QBs who can throw are overrated. Who are the most successful in the NFL? Pure pocket passers. Scramblers will eventually take one lick too many and that's it. RG3 needs to convert to a pocket passer this offseason and only run if needed and freaking remember to slide, otherwise the Deadskins wasted another pick (nothing new).

Man, these were some pretty boring games this weekend. Good to see the Broncos are playing a team we already beat in their home stadium. Now that they have Lewis back it may be tougher but I think we'll still be okay.

The Ravens' defense has been playing just as well or better without Ray Lewis. Apparently he played well yesterday (I missed the game) but father time has caught up with him and I'm glad he's going out on top.

I'd be shocked if RG3 plays at all next year. Takes most about 2 years to come back to full strength.
And AP is Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson, type of athlete. Elite of the elite. So don't expect an AP type comeback.

Wait, do we have news on the MRI and it was more than a sprain? 😕

just heard on tv the Doctor did NOT clear him and tried to get him out after the 1st time he got hurt in the game.

wonder if true..

He led the team in tackles (13) and they would give him the ball during any forced fumbles/TO's. I'd say that's a pretty big impact, meaning they were playing for him. If they were a playing well before, then they're even better now. If it's enough to win in Denver, who knows, but if father time = leading your team in tackles every game then I'm sure everyone would want to get older.

from rg3 this morning,

"Many may question, criticize & think they have all the right answers. But few have been in the line of fire in battle."

rg3 lost that game for the redskins. it was selfish of him to go on the field while they were ahead if he wasnt 100%. cousins has shown he is a competent qb and had a good chance of winning for them at that point of the game. but once rg3 lost the ball and instead of trying to grab it, he layed on the field djangoing like a wuss, allowing seattle to get it, it was all over, there wasnt enough time for cousins to score twice

thats a very unprofessional thing for him to say. it reminds of when he was whining about dudes grabbing his nuts in the piles...

you are one racist motherfucker, you know? ever since the election ended, it seems.

and why do you have a picture of a kid with an extremely rare, and absolutely horrible disease as your avatar?

Video of original injury.

I know it's part of playing the game and RGIII was mistaken in being too over confident in his running game, but I personally would hate to be Ravens #92 (Haloti Ngata) who potentially snuffed out one of the most brilliant QBs in history. As long as you win, right?

Wilson for RoY! :awe:

This Seahawks-Packers re-match is beginning to feel like kismet.

Careful now, once the usual suspects among the Redskins fans are done licking their wounds, they'll pounce on you for posting the same thing I posted months ago.

I'm still laughing at the "he only runs during pocket collapses!" remark, among many other ludicrous and ridiculous statements from the Redskins faithful. Yeah, that pocket was sure "collapsing" when RGimpIII rolled out on a bootleg to the left, limping the entire way (that was a designed play for you slow Redskins fans).

His fucking knee went laterally. Try bending your knee laterally and see how it works out.

I watched it over and over when it happened. He went to plant/turn and his knee just wasn't there. It was way more damaged then the team was letting out. Good news is now he can let it heal or surgery if needed. I understand being a competitor and all, but dude this is your career...get it healed. I don't even think he should have been walking on it on the sidelines. That was a tear or very severe strain.

Oh snap, that is nasty. D: Poor guy.

Ngata should not feel bad at all, it's not like he did anything wrong, was just following his momentum through going for a tackle on the guy in the open field.
