He'll be out longer than that and he's had concussions before. Mets should seriously think about getting another catcher or add more to their minor league system as concussions are tricky and who knows how long Thole will be out. Mike Nickeas and Rob Johnson can hold things down for a bit but they'll need someone better if Thole is out for a long time.

My God the Phils are horrible. Bullpen era over 7 since 4/23, Papsmear's blown save 2 nights ago, and Pete fcking Orr's botched throw last night in the rundown. They can't even capitalize on Hunter Pence's torrid hitting, ugh. Just lulz all around, they'll probably waste another good outing by Cliff today.

Nats had a heartbreaker last night, but hilarity did ensue after Pitt fans booed Barajas earlier and he hits the walkoff. It shows how bad the Nats need Storen (or any legit closer) back. On a positive note, at least Zimmerman was back to soften the blow of losing Werth. Edwin Jackson had a good outing. Harper had a double too.

Considering Jeter posted a 2.0 Offensive WAR last year and Reyes 6.2, you'd be crazy to do that 20 games into the season. Yeah DJ has a good start, but Reyes still already has 3 more stolen bags. If your league values stolen bases then no way in hell I'm trading for old man Jeter. Long term, a definite no because DJ is at the tail end of his career while Reyes is going into his prime.

I know it's been awhile since this post. I actually ended up taking the trade, but I didn't fully explain the league I was in. I'm in a dynasty league that does count stolen bases. However, I severely overpaid for Reyes during the auction-draft at $32. Jeter was $7 and with the extra cap space the trade gave me, I got Jose Bautista and Shaun Marcum for Jason Kipnis and Jordan Zimmerman.

So far the trade has worked in my favor as Jeter has been producing like crazy. I'm planning to trade him away while he's still hot for some other prospects. My only concern is that I lost Kipnis who I got for $6 in the auction and probably could have kept at my 2b position for years to come.

Now... to find a way to fill the Werth-less void on my team.

i remember thinking to myself when orr threw that ball away that this is usually the mets doing this not the phillies

Bad teams find a way to lose. The Phils are playing like a bad team at present.

i am hoping the mets get off to quick start on lee since he is coming off disabled list. nice 3-4 runs in first inning would be nice

Nice job by the Mets tonight with a sweep of the Phillies. The Phillies bullpen was awful and their outfield was not much better. Pence in particular was just atrocious.

David Robertson with his first blown save for the Yanks.

You can only play with fire (loading the bases) so many times and not get burned. He struck out Pena both nights. And while Upton does hit into DPs often, he avoided it last night to get in one run at least.

Otherwise, it was a great pitching performance by both teams. And to quote ESPN

That was the first run charged to Robertson (0-1) in 27 outings since Aug. 29 last year in Baltimore.

Pence is allowed an error here and there with the way he's hitting (triple->RBI last night). The rest of the team just sucks ass right now. Kyle Kendrick should have been traded last year, now it's coming back to haunt us.

wow, mets win again. first sweep of phillies since 2008 in think they said. did not think they would sweep them

ROFL, what a horrible start for Colby Lewis. First two batters faced = HRs.

Kinda got this feeling Rangers are going to lose this first game.

edit, make that 3 HRs for first 3 batters......LOL

Phillies GM says the team will be sellers if they continue to play poorly. Way too early for that kind of talk. Maybe he said that to give the team a bit of a kick in the butt or something.

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said he will be a seller in July if his team doesn't improve over the next few months.

"We just have to get on track," Amaro said. "But if July comes and we're playing like this, we'll be sellers. How we play now will determine whether we'll be buyers or sellers in July." The Phillies are 14-18 and five games back in the NL East. With a $174 million payroll, just shy of the $178 million luxury-tax threshold, and ownership that doesn't want to pay the tax, Amaro won't have much wiggle room if he decides he wants to be a buyer in July.

To add to that...

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Blue Jays have "engaged in dialogue" with the Phillies regarding Cole Hamels and Shane Victorino.

It's interesting timing, given that Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro noted Thursday that the team could be sellers at the trade deadline. But, Rosenthal cautions that "no trade is close" or "even likely" at this point, and that the Phillies are a long way from giving up on the season. While we don't anticipate them making any big deals anytime soon, if they're still floundering by midseason, trading potential free agents Hamels and Victorino becomes a viable option.

Frank Francisco is a fucking piece of shit. HE STINKS! WHY DID THE METS GIVE THIS CLOWN A TWO YEAR DEAL? He can't even throw to first base! How is that possible? I don't think I can't take anymore of this bum.

They can speed up the game more effectively by calling the actual strikezone. Of course, scores, batting averages, and offensive stats would go down...but the game would be a lot faster and a lot more enjoyable, imo.
Except only the true fans love the 2-1 pitching duels. Those games sure do move fast, but to the casual viewer they are boring as hell.

I consider the later innings to be a complete time sink though. Most of it is just the baseball strategy in close games, but the whole "lefty comes to plate, manager puts in lefty pitcher, other manager puts in righty hitter, batter gets walked, manager puts righty pitcher" just destroys the pace of the game.

In any case, I don't think removing the fake 1st to 3rd is going to speed up the game...at all.

it may come down to them using Jenrry Mejía as the closer sometime this year. he is doing well in his rehab and may be ready by june from what they are saying. right now there are no other options on the club so we are stuck with him for now

Maybe..Jon Rauch sucks and Bobby Parnell is too inconsistent but those two are choices. <sigh> I hope they don't rush Mejia. Mejia as well as Chris Young are doing fine so far in rehab.
