That's stupidly beautiful. I realized when I started trading that if I had a cold million and bought that much at once, I could just buy and set a sell order for every time it went up 0.1%. That'd make me $980 post comission. Just count the number of times that happens in a day and you're set for life.

But eventually, you will buy at the top and when do you give up and sell?

what's up with IBM other than the CEO is stepping down and being replaced... is this bad? what's the inside scoop?
Much ado about nothing.

Ginni Rommety has worked at IBM for over 30 years. She's more than well groomed to handle the job. Palmisano resigning at 60 is not a surprise either...Almost all IBM CEO's have done that.

I think people are just scared based on history of past failed women leading corporations(Fiorina, etc...)

Just out of curiosity, anybody looking at AMZN as a good buy right now?

I just skimmed the financials. I think it is a good short if anything. On top of being a $40B company trading at $100B, it is also a constant share diluter.

I don't know what kind of growth is needed to justify it's valuation but I can generalize in using the phrase "very VERY impressive growth".

Find something boring where it is painfully obvious that it is undervalued. My basket is full of issues like that.

EDIT: I just looked at the stock chart. Don't assume that AMZN will never see 2008 levels (under $100) again just because it is over $200 today:

Goodbye morning rally... and to think I was worried the market wouldn't go down soon enough.

If you believe this guy, it is a good buy:
http://seekingalpha.com/article/301904-8-reasons-amazon-com-will-rocket-after-earnings-today

Although they are having double-digit revenue growth each quarter, their earnings are not keeping up. In their last earnings they made 14 cents a share. Thats worse than many $11/share stocks. They have a P/E of 105. Based on this I think AMZN should be $20 - $25.

Although it is true they are the most dominate internet retailer out there, they are losing the battle over sales taxes with the states and will find their business reduced because of it.

actually thought of shorting them at $250 recently, but didn't guess their profitability would deteriorate in the near term. They gave an extremely wide range for Q4 guidance, and I actually think they'll have a strong holiday quarter.

Imp,

I figure that the dow at 13,500 is rational. When it was last there bargains were nearly impossible to find.

FWIW: I figure USG is worth $19 or so. I'll dump half of my holdings at $18. It's when, not if, with USG

RMBS:

Micron and Hynix last night agreed to "share" any damages judgement/settlement that occurs - sounds to me like they're expecting to lose.

That said, they both have also said they would appeal any judgement against them.

-----

On a side note, any "lower" priced picks to watch out for right now? Looking at something in the $1-$2 range to buy in. I'm not adverse to long term holds. Right now I'm mostly building a portfolio to pass along to my kids. I was lucky enough to buy in to a few (F, RMBS) when they were at their low points during the last couple years. But with 5 kids, I'd like to have a bit more invested.

Looks like we're on a tear. Guess I shouldn't have started checking out. Oh well, still half in half out, so not missing out completely.
