AIG has eps at -720; they've nearly doubled in the last 5 days.

I don't have enough cajones to trade these finance stocks... but good luck to you if you do!

I guess that's good for day traders.

Big board volume leader on 113 1/2 (ph) million shares, Citigroup (C) moving up $0.09. And then Freddie Mac (FRE) a huge percentage gain, $0.95. The company surprised Wall Street by post a second quarter profit for the first time in two years, but that eventually resulted in an $0.11 per share loss after paying Uncle Sam $1.1 billion in dividends. Meanwhile, the company said it needs no additional funding from the government for now.

It is? Isn't it still incredibly speculative? I mean last time I checked, stockholders in MTLQQ get whatever is left after oldGM's assets are sold & its debts are paid. Which means shareholders could be left with jack. If that hasn't changed, isn't oldGM stock still incredibly speculative?

I feel like I'm missing something here, b/c I was confused as to why people were buying when it dropped heavily around the time GM's bankruptcy proceedings were wrapping up (into like 0.4ish range)... and I'm even more confused as to how it's at $1 now. Makes me feel stupid b/c I could've bought in at 0.4 if I knew wtf was going on.

 It continues to rise today! Up another 6% so far. Is it possible that people are still associating this stock with "new" GM, despite repeated attempts to clarify that it doesn't?

Wow. BAC just got a new major shareholder. I wonder how much effect it has on the stock price. I've bought a few shares not too long ago.

That is why short-term options are so risky. But this basically seals the deal that the AT Trial stays on track with no or very little delay.

January options will likely cover the end of the AT Trial, whereas February options will cover the AT Trial and the initial decision from the RMBS vs Nvidia ITC case (this case is currently slated to be decided in January, but several days after that month's options expire).

Rambus shares spike 13 pct as trial date firms
Reuters

* Case should go ahead as planned on Sept. 28

* Shares leap as much as 13 percent

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug 14 (Reuters) - Shares of chip designer Rambus Inc (RMBS.O) spiked as much as 13 percent on Friday as investors grew more confident that a pivotal antitrust case would go to trial as planned.

Rambus has brought an antitrust case against Micron Technology Inc (MU.N), Hynix Semiconductor Inc (000660.KS) and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930.KS), accusing them of engaging in price-fixing and hurting sales of its RDRAM memory chips, which are used in computers.

The California state-level trial, which could be worth more than $12 billion in damages, is scheduled to kick off in a San Francisco court on September 28. [ID:nN04314778]

Investors had worried the trial would be delayed with several court filings by Micron and the other memory makers.

Shares in Los Altos, California-based Rambus rose as high as $17.85, before trading up 10.7 percent at $17.50 early Friday afternoon.

What a great day for RMBS. I?m considering selling for profit but I?m also greedy. Hard to make a decision here. Being a Canadian the F/X has taken back about 15% of RMBS gains that I?m not sure I want to give up complicating the decision. I wouldn?t be surprised to see a pullback between now and the next ?news? so maybe it?s a good time to take some off the table.

Most of the discussion on this board revolves around small volatile stocks. Due to the recent gains of CAD over USD I want to get into some large cap US stocks while the F/X is favorable. The stock should offer some growth, dividends but more importantly it shouldn?t have too much downside.

I?m considering: MCD or TAP, BNI and COP. Any thoughts on these companies? I like COP because I don?t own any energy, attractive dividend and limited downside. I like BNI because WB likes it :). I like MCD and TAP because of stable F/X exposure with some growth on the side.

Current large holdings are RTN, RMBS, BAC and T.

I have a "hunch" we're going to see a sell off this week. Too many bears calling the bear rally top (Prechter, Leeb), and with the whole FDIC insolvency and Ginne Mae/FHA failure, I think this is it. I hate hate hate hate calling market tops, but I'm looking for a small position in August SPY 95 puts. If we see a quick 10% correction this week that's 45x your money. Not a bad gamble IMO (and it is a complete gamble).

Didn't they just complete a tender offer for bondholders to take 87 cents to the dollar on their notes? That's a bad sign.

They have been this expensive all year. The option guys are smart, they don't want to be hosed if we re-test the March lows.
