Supposed to be in the high 40s/low50s by gametime with a 50% chance of rain.

What? The Tigers already won the World Series 4 games to none against the A's.

This Tigers / Cardinals exhibition is only for formality's sake.

I just wanted the Cardinals to make it to the playoffs and avoid any sort of historic collapse. Everything from here is gravy.

It's kind of nice pulling for a team and having such low expectations for a change. I wouldn't want to get too used to it though, I leave that for Cubs fans.

I'm kind of thinking Tigers in 6. Im a huge Cardinals fan too... and I just don't see the Cardinals overcoming the Tigers; easily the most complete team out there.

And a mean changeup and slider. Christ.

Yeah. Wainwright is absolutely amazing. His real good breaking ball wasn't completely there tonight. It wasn't breaking as much as normal, when it does I just sit back in my chair and smile. I have never seen a 12-6 Breaking ball that is that good. I would venture to say that Wainwright's breaking ball is the equivelant of Joel Zumaya's fastball.

Looks to be a good series Detroit fans. I can't wait to watch it (Though hopefully there are some new commercials, because the ones right now I have seen way too much ;) )

tigers have the pitching and the offensive is a no brainer. Cards may get 1 or 2 games before they go down.

Thats what they said against the mets. As the cliche goes, its October, anything can happen.

I'm going to say Tigers in 6 but if Carpenter does not win one for the Cards then I say Tigers in 5.

I like that rotation. Smart move by Jim, IMO. Hopefully Granderson and Polanco can continue their hot hitting.

smart by leyland. have kenny pitch both of his games at home. dude has been brutal at home in these playoffs, no need to change things now. i also like putting robertson to start the road portion.

Wainwright is slated to be a starter next year. I am kind of torn. An Izzy at full strength can be nasty. He has that incredible (Wainwright-esque) Knuckle Curve ball that falls off a table. I think he has another year or two left in him. After that, I think Tyler Johnson wouldn't be a bad option for closer. He has a huge sweeping breaking ball, an above average slider and a half decent fastball. After some experience and more time with Duncan, Johnson could be ready to fill those shoes.

Wainwright is absolutely incredible. I hadn't seen much of him before this year (He was in the minors) so I was excited about Anthony Reyes. The first time i saw Wainwright obliterate the 3 hitters he faced I was like WOW.

This will be a close series. Bonderman has great stuff but can be wild. Kenny Rogers is a finesse pitcher. Sometimes the control isn't there. This series is definitely still in Detroits favor, but the Cardinals starting Rotation and Bullpen dont look half bad. And another plus for the Cardinals is they are a fastball hitting lineup. The Tigers have a lot of young hard throwing pitchers. I wouldn't be suprised to see a few higher scoring games.

The Cardinals' pitching over the last 6 weeks has been bizarre. The bullpen completely tanked in September and was the main reason for the losing streak, now at least a few of them are lights out in relief. Carpenter hasn't been particularly sharp lately, yet Weaver (who looked like trash from July-September) and Suppan are pitching out of their minds.

Suppan pitched very good the second half. It is no surprise that he continues.
As for Weaver, I was very surprised. He has pitched HUGE games for the Cardinals and come up big in all of them. A lot has to do with Dave Duncan working with him, but a lot has to do with confidence. Imagine a rotation (Next year) with Carp, Mulder (At full health), Suppan, Weaver (Like he is pitching right now), and Wainwright. That would be a very solid rotation IMO.

Suppan was good but not "get into the 7th or 8th with 1 earned run" good. ;)

I don't think the rotation lines up like that for next year. Mulder's done, contract expired and he blew out his rotator cuff, which is a really terrible injury for a pitcher. With all the injuries he had, he didn't pan out like they thought he would. Suppan is also a free agent, and this October probably has him on his way to locking up stupid money from some top market team. It sounds to me like Isringhausen is going to have chronic hip problems for the rest of his career. He may not be ready to go for the start of 2007 -- so will they keep Wainwright at closer?

Just ride this year out and hope for the best. :)
