Mulder's done, contract expired and he blew out his rotator cuff, which is a really terrible injury for a pitcher. With all the injuries he had, he didn't pan out like they thought he would.

He wont be there at the beginning of the year, but I expect that the Cardinals may give him a 1 year contract and then if he does good to extend that?

Suppan is also a free agent, and this October probably has him on his way to locking up stupid money from some top market team.

Suppan lives in St. Louis and has a business in St. Louis. He will be resigned, I seriously doubt that he is going anywhere, regardless of the money.

It sounds to me like Isringhausen is going to have chronic hip problems for the rest of his career. He may not be ready to go for the start of 2007 -- so will they keep Wainwright at closer?

Possible but it is my prediction that Izzy will be back for at least one more year.

As for Suppan on the second half lets look at his second half starts:
LAD: 7 IP 5 Hits 1 ER
@LAD: 7 IP 5 Hits 0 ER
COL: 6 IP 5 Hits 1 ER
PHI: 5 IP 9 Hits 4 ER
MIL: 7.1 IP 4 Hits 1 ER
PIT: 5.1 IP 8 Hits 5 ER
CHC: 4.1 IP 8 Hits 3 ER
CHC: 7.2 IP 5 Hits 0 ER
FLA: 7 IP 6 Hits 1 ER
WAS: 7.2 IP 5 Hits 0 ER
ARI: 5.1 IP 6 Hits 0 ER
SF: 7 IP 8 Hits 3 ER
MIL: 7 IP 6 Hits 0 ER
SD: 3.2 IP 6 Hits 4 ER
MIL: 7 IP 5 Hits 2 ER

He was more than you would think, with a bad game here and there.

Don't care as long as it goes 7 games, and that last one goes into extra innings.

If I had to choose, Cards in 7, nothing should come easy.

Kenny Rogers has been amazing these playoffs.......Verlander has only been average at best. it'd be nice to see him have a strong outing on Saturday.

plus, Zumaya should be healthy

Good luck getting your foot out of your mouth.

Was a 7-2 loss to a rookie pitcher that only won 5 games in the regular season a scheduled part of this "formality"?

Maybe this game will change the attitude of the media and public at large who all seem to have it in for the Cardinals. Having watched pretty much all of their games this year, I know how good this team can be (especially when healthy, which they are), and the way they are playing right now, the Tigers have their hands full. The playoffs are all about gutsy play and momentum, and the Cards have got tons of both right now, especially now with Edmonds and Rolen hitting... Cards in 7.

And shame on you folks calling yourselves Cardinals fans picking the Tigers to win. The Cardinals have one of the most loyal fan bases in any sport. No one picked them to win either of the first 2 playoff series that they won either. All baseball fans should know that after that slate gets wiped clean after the regular season, anything can happen. See: '03 Marlins, '97 Marlins, '88 Dodgers, '69 "Miracle" Mets, etc, etc...

Yeah that's a possibility simply because no one will be willing to commit much money to him. But I'll be pissed if they expect him to contribute much, ever, at the expense of getting another real starter.

Suppan lives in St. Louis and has a business in St. Louis. He will be resigned, I seriously doubt that he is going anywhere, regardless of the money.
I like hometown discounts too, but I suspect he's going to get some stupid offers, for way more than he's been worth over the last few seasons.

Possible but it is my prediction that Izzy will be back for at least one more year.
oh he's still around for '07, injured or not. I'd also like to know what's going on with Rolen's shoulder, in terms of long term health. He's looked good for the last 2 games, but I still wonder.

Anyway, Reyes pitched a killer game tonight. And I was thinking about this yesterday, I can't remember when the Cardinals actually have had a legitimate DH to put into a World Series game and weren't at a disadvantage to the AL club in that regard. Chris Duncan is tailor-made for the job and he was right in the middle of the big inning tonight. He was a .950 OPS hitter in the regular season, that's a major addition to any lineup.

First NL World Series game win since 2003!

As a saint louis guy living in houston since 2004, these have been crazy playoff years. I laughed really hard when the Astros got swept by the White Sox, mostly because I caught a lot of sh!t about the Red Sox sweeping the Cards, but now we finally managed to win a game.

Cards all the way, they've had a hell of a comeback in these playoffs (in regard to their late season falling apart act).

WTF was that? Tigers got spanked in first game, 7-2. My prediction still stands, Tigers in 5! They're gonna 4-0 Cards in the next four games.

Oh give me a break about the being a bad fan lecture. I have watched 90% of their games over the past 3 years.

I want the Cards to win as much as any other fan. And I don't doubt that they have a fighting chance. However, the Tigers starting Rotation and Bullpen are nothing short of dominant! They will be hard pressed to beat them. THAT is why I said i think the Tigers in 6 or 7, NOT because I am a bad or unfaithful fan.

Way to totally over-react to a joke! God job! It's a best of seven series, not a 1-game winner take all match-up, duh... Were you just sitting on this thread waiting for a Cardinals victory? No matter what you say, the Tigers are the better team. If the Cardinals & Tigers switched divisions, the Cardinals wouldn't have even been .500 for the season. But we all know some teams can get lucky in a short stretch, that's why they play all the games. Heck, in a short stretch, even the Cubs whooped the Cardinals pretty badly.

There are some teams a team just doesn't play well against. Regardless of how well the Redskins are doing a season, they typically lose to Dallas, and they normally lose AT Giants.

Additionally the Cardinals have a very good team. For much of the season we were using bench players as many of our regular players were injured. Additionally, they were grooming a completely new bullpen, which as you can see took a while to work. Now you can see that they are capable of doing much more.

Alright, alright, fine, calm down. Not trying to say you're a bad fan. I'm just tired of nobody picking the Cardinals to win! Not even our own fans?! If all the fans at Busch for Game 3 had their money on the Tigers or just thought the Tigers would eventually win, but really wanted the Cardinals to win, there would be something missing. Like the signs say, "you gotta believe!" not just want. Just my $0.02.

what I said is as much a joke as your comment. Not overreacting. ;)

I just happened to first read through this thread after the Cardinals were up 7-1 in Game 1, definitely not waiting for anything.

And if I understand you, you're saying that even if the Cardinals win, they're just lucky, and Detroit is the better team? Why even watch the game, or pay attention to the sport if you can't consider the World Series champs to be the best team, even if they weren't better on paper.

How about this, when the regular season is over, you just pick out the best team on paper, and you declare them your champions, and leave the playoff fun to the people who think winning a World Series makes you the best team.

I think the Tigers were actually asleep at the switch tonight because of the week off while the Cardinals were sharp and firing on all cylinders after coming out of the Mets seris only 2 nights ago. The question now is wether the Tigers wake up in time to win, I think they are a stronger team on paper then the Cards, but momentum is in favor of St Louis right now. Also remember the Cardinals have been in 3 straight NL Championship seris & two WS in the last 3 years so they have a lot of guys who are used to post-season pressure which makes a huge difference... they're a lot better team then they are being given credit for.

I'm predicting a 7 game seris & the Tigers pulling it out for the poll, but really I wouldn't be surprised to see it go either way.

Why? Because it's more enjoyable to poke fun at fans of rival teams this way. :D

On paper, this series is as lop-sided as the '98 series between the Yankees and Padres. But I have to give credit to Suppan and Weaver, in the post season they've been pitching far better than anyone could have predicted. But can it hold up against the Tiger's lineup? I don't know. But I can say this, the Cardinals are not going to put up 7 runs on the board each game.

Momentum in baseball goes only as far as your next starting pitcher. So who ya got, Weaver or Rogers?

Whatever it takes for you to get through life as a Cubs fan, I guess. ;)

Honestly, the way both of those guys are pitching right now, I don't see that big an advantage for the Tigers. Plus, this Cardinals team has been known to chase some big name pitchers, who everybody says cannot be stopped, right off the mound. Clemens and Lidge come to mind, and more recently Billy Wagner. So I say bring on the Gambler. Maybe we can add him to that list.

About time.

From an ESPN.com article today:

" "I just think you give the other team credit," said Leyland.

There's a novel idea, especially when it comes to the Cardinals. The next time, don't be so surprised."
