Straight from Office Update:

Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP-2) provides the latest updates to Microsoft Office XP. SP-2 contains significant security enhancements as well as stability and performance improvements. Some of the fixes included with SP-2 have been previously released as separate updates. This service pack combines them into one update.

Office XP SP-2 addresses the issues described in the following Microsoft Security Bulletins:

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS02-021: E-mail Editor Flaw Could Lead to Script Execution on Reply or Forward
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS02-031: Cumulative Patches for Excel and Word for Windows (Q324458)
This service pack also includes all updates released since Office XP SP-1:

Office XP Speller Update: April 25, 2002
Word 2002 Update: April 25, 2002
Excel 2002 Update: June 19, 2002
Office XP Clip Organizer Update: June 19, 2002
Word 2002 Update: June 19, 2002
Office XP SP-2 will install successfully even if one or more of the publicly available updates listed above have already been installed on your computer.

Office XP SP-2 also includes stability improvements developed as a result of user input from the Error Reporting Tool in Office XP as well as Microsoft Product Support feedback.

Any public updates released after Office XP SP-2 will require the installation of SP-2.

Service Pack 2 for Office XP will apply to the following Office XP suites and standalone applications:

Microsoft Office XP Professional
Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage®
Microsoft Office XP Standard
Microsoft Office XP Standard for Students and Teachers
Microsoft Office XP Small Business Edition
Microsoft Word 2002
Microsoft Excel 2002
Microsoft FrontPage® 2002
Microsoft Outlook® 2002
Microsoft PowerPoint® 2002
Microsoft Access 2002
Microsoft Publisher 2002
Microsoft Office XP Web Components
For more information on Office XP Service Pack 2, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article, (Q325671): Overview of the Office XP Service Pack 2.

Over in Hot Deals there is a thread about having the CD sent to you free. I signed up and there is no cost, no shipping and it is on its way. Lynn

Okay, I wasn't able to install the file listed in the first post of this thread as "OFFICE XP ENGLISH" but I don't remember the reason the software said that it couldn't update.

Since I downloaded both, I ran the "ADMIN INSTALL" which extracted two files to my desktop where I told it to. I ran the first file, "MAINSP2ff.msp" which updated well. It took a minute or so, but updated successfully. The second file, "Owc10SP2ff.msp" didn't run and gave me some annoyingly long and irritatingly confusing error message. So I ran the first file again, the "OFFICE XP ENGLISH" and it told me that the patch couldn't be applied because another program had already applied the patch.

So looks like if you have trouble, just try the first .msp that comes with the "ADMIN INSTALL" file.

It contains SP1. All MS Service Packs contain the previous updates in all other previous Service Packs.

I'm wondering that, too. Do they change the EULA to give themselves the "right" to automatically update your PC without your knowledge? (Translation, to force DRM upon you..)

If you have a corporate version of Office XP, you cannot use any of the downloadable service packs for a standard install.

You need to create an Administrative Install Point, which basically means copy the OfficeXP CD to your hard drive, update the installation files and the reinstall your OfficeXP from that.

Could you be a little more specific Andy? So do you mean make a slipstream copy with SP2 intergrated and then do an install?
