Or has it been overshadowed by Macworld?
Dying to know if it's worth the price...granted iWorks is great but in terms of compatibility you still need Office...

I picked up the Student Edition. I'm happy with it for the simple fact that it's Intel-native. Office 2004 was HORRIBLY slow on my MBP, so it's nice to have a much faster version. However, there is little improvement in the applications. They all feel exactly like Office 2004, but with "minor" changes. Overall, I got a good deal on the upgrade, but it's just a little too little to justify the regular price.

It's not bad. I think I like it more than NeoOffice. It starts up quick and definitely feels more like a Mac program now. It also has 2007-esqe menus that are a little easier to use, although I like 2007's layout more.

I am curious to see how it does as far as compatibility as I use it more, like my professors being able to open my documents properly. 2007 has a lot of backwards-compatibility problems, which is why I primarily use Office XP in VMware for word processing.

I wanted to, but my university doesn't have it available yet through their discount program. They still only offer 2k4. :(

I have 2k8 standard and I don't see any difference between this and 2k4 minus the Intel-native code which makes it load faster as Kmax82 has stated as well.

How are you guys getting yours? Retail stores?

I got the upgrade deal, and my order has been "in process" for about a month now.

Urgh no macro/VBA support?
This is going to put a dent to this semester (professor requires us to use macros in a class)

Yeah, I'm just using Office 07 through VMWare. It just seems... better, especially since I get OneNote.

I really like Office 2008. It's not much of an update from 2004, granted, but at least now it's native as said above. I used Pages for a semester before getting 2008, and I think it's about a tie between those two. Whatever you do, I'd lose 2004, but if it's Pages or Office, I'd go for Pages.

Office 2008 is definitely faster, content wise about the same.

Worth an upgrade from 2004? Definitely.

Are you joking? Enhanced Exchange support, superior interface/interface updates, SmartArt, smoother templates? What do you expect from an office suite?

What system do you have? I find running and VM on anything other than a mac pro to be painful if I want to use the host system as well. I wanted to just use Office 07 as well, but it just wasn't conducive to have to boot XP every time I wanted to open a word document

You might want to try Crossover for Mac; it works well with Office XP (which I use to stay compatible with older systems).

I installed Office 2008 on a mac book pro and it seriously messed up the fonts in Safari. So I reset Safari, restarted and the fonts seems to be OK now. However over the last year I've used Pages more and more. It exports to word just fine. At this point I'm considering uninstalling Office and just selling it. It is however much better than Office 2004. When I started Word for the first time I thought that it looked just like Pages. Quickview didn't see the office 2008 files anymore.

its pretty nice, a hell of a lot faster than the 2004 version, but its still not that snappy and apparently a bit of a ram whore but i have 4gb so im not so worried about that.

still office 2003 running on my XP VM (with 1gig assigned to it) runs like a knife through hot butter.... its rapid and easily bests 2008 if speed and standard stuff is your game. 2008 is a little more on the flashy side, which i guess is in keeping with mac stuff. somehow i still prefer keynote over PP, but word and excel are irreplaceable and entourage seems pretty nice too with its daily planner thing, but im quite settled with mail now so i dont think ill use entourage much.

I thought about it, but I don't really want to pay for another piece of software :) At that point, I might just pay for iwork instead. it's not like I *need* office, it just happens I get it free from work.. heh
