Soda is an American term.

Pop is what we have in Canada.

All of you are stupid :p
Here in the UK, we call it whatever it is.
Tango we call Tango, Dr Pepper is Dr Pepper, Coke is Coke.

"Do you want a drink?
Yes please.
We have coke, Dr Pepper, Tango.
I'll have some tango please."

Exactly. Thats what I was gonna say, but...yeah. I never actually say soda or soft drink...I just say what I want. If someone wants some drinks from the store, I ask them what kind, not just soda.

My woman is from Texas and she CALLED everything Coke. 6 years in Minnesota got rid of that. But I often wondered how a "buying a Coke" conversation would go down there in Texas.

Waitress: What would you like to drink?
Texan: I'll take a Coke
Waitress: What kind of Coke would you like?
Texan: Dr. Peper is fine

WTF?

Ohh yeh, definately Soda as a general term.

Ever call a spa a "jacuzzi?" Or how about a bandage a "band-aid?" Ever ride a moving staircase but call it an "escalator?"

All trademarked. All used in place of the "proper" name.

I call each drink by it's own name. Want some Sprite? Want some Mountain Dew? etc.

But between Soda & Pop I say soda. Where'd the name Pop come from anyway? Isn't Soda more accurate to the ingredients? Isn't it flavored syrup mixed with "Soda" water ?

Soda is soda water, so why do you call pop, soda?

Do you call coffee, water? Do you call beer water?

"That's what you got"

"No, this is CocaCola. I asked for a Coke"

Soda is soda water, so why do you call pop, soda?

Do you call coffee, water? Do you call beer water?

The common ingredient in all Sodas/Pops, is Soda Water, or just Soda if you wanna call it that (unless I'm mistaken like I questioned earlier). So that's the reason for categorizing them all as "Soda" since that is their shared ingredient, and the main constant of the recipe. Where does "Pop" come from? From when you used to "pop" open a bottle of Soda? What relation does Pop have to what is in Soda?
