For all of you who think Pedro is bad, what do you think of Rivera and the Sox pushing him around like a little leaguer?

I don't think an intentional walk was in order for Ortiz. He's not a high average hitter, and his power is irrelevant at that stage of the game.

On a more serious note, how are the bullpens going to cope? I think the Yankees have Lieber and Brown available, the sox only have Schilling on normal rest.

Whoever says Torre is a Hall of Famer is fcking idiot.

You're crazy. You walk the bases loaded and every pitch has to be a strike. You pitch to Ortiz and theres a chance someone catches a little bloop like he hit.

I agree you can't walk the bases loaded there..a passed ball wins it. And Mienky had been hitting the ball solid too.

Ortiz earned that, that was a sick at bat.

Loaiza pitched better than anyone could've hoped for.

Sorry I don't agree, Ortiz hit a walkoff HR last night, and one 5 innings before. TORRE IS A DUMBFVCK. Even 2 innings before they had a base open and pitched to Ortiz, it's like staring instant death in the face... the guy had 140+ RBI's in the league...

Torre just said the same thing as me basically..you can't put the winning run at third..a passed ball or god knows what wins it.
If you have enough confidence in your pitcher to pitch to Big Papi with man on 2nd, you should have enough confidence in your pitcher to not walk Mientkavicz. It doesn't add up, sorry Torre. MANAGERIAL CHOKE.

Yankee fans are not Boston Fans. We don't automatically blame our manager when our team gets beat (Like Grady Little). I agree with Torre's move and I'm sure most people will. YOU CANNOT WALK THE BASES LOADED. Ortiz hit a little blooper that managed to fall in.

Is it me or does anyone see Sp33Demon trying to compare Torre to Grady Little? Are you a moron? Walk the bases loaded in a game like this? With Loaiza battling control (3BBs) a walk wins the game.

Got Punk'd??? No outs with a man on 3rd and all he gave up was a single sacrifice fly and thats getting Punk'd? *sigh* your hopeless.

Of course you agree with Torre. It's preprogrammed into your head to think Torre is the sht when all he had to do was tap his right wrist, call Rivera in, and the game would be over. Or Torre had to juggle who to hit in what order of ARod, Sheffield, Matsui, Posada, and Jeter. Take the blindfold off, you will read tomorrow all over ESPN how TORRE CHOKED.

Who's the most dangerous hitter on Boston right now. Thank you. Any 10 year old Little Leaguer could have told you: DON'T PITCH TO ORTIZ.

Edit: Do you really follow the Red Sox? lmao

I think another rainout would once again benefit the Red Sox more. They have overexhausted everyone in their bullpen the last two games. The Yanks can go without Gordon, Mo can throw ONE inning as he usually does, and we still have Tanyon who only threw 13 pitches. I'm confident in our bullpen.

Anyone know how many teams, down 3-0, have forced a game 7? Only two teams (out of 25) have forced game 6. Boston is the third.

No, fool. In a situation where any base hit wins the game, a power hitter like Ortiz isn't the most dangerous player in the lineup.

I'm not a Sox fan. I hate the yankees.

So you would pitch to a guy who was batting .400 in 2 nights with a Walk off HR, and a game tying HR 5 innings ago? You would pitch to a guy who batted .301 with 41HR's and 139RBI over a guy who batted .238 and comes off the bench for defense? With a base open? If you have the balls to pitch to Ortiz, then you should have the balls to load the bases and pitch to a .238 hitter who's in there for defense and go with the statistically correct decision.

With a guy who walks as many people as loaiza does? Yes. He's walked around 30 batters in 45 innings pitched this season.

Again, since you have the mindframe of a beetle, you obviously are not looking at the entire picture. As a MANAGER you have to look at all the potential outcomes. Whether Ortiz hit a 3 run shot or a bloop single, they win the game. However, considering that Loaiza has control issues, throwing 4 straight balls to Ortiz, would not have helped. Torre, as would have any intellegent manager, would rather lose a game on a great hit than to a walk or wild pitch. Numbers don't tell the entire game, as you can see, who would have thought Boone would hit the walk off last year?

Okay, it took me awhile to come down from that ending. My eyes actually hurt from watching pitch 1 to god knows how many. Manny won many games this season almost on his own. Against the Angels he had the big hits against their starters so the Sox didn't need to fight the bullpen every game. Ortiz is solid and clutch, but without Manny Boston wouldn't be close to being there. (I'm hoping he puts up a 3 run shot in innings 3-5 tomorrow, the bullpen needs it)

What's the deal with Loaiza? He looked like the pitcher of last year, I kept waiting for him to choke big but he kept control to the end. Tori did the right thing by not walking Ortiz. Not only was a HR not needed but Mieskavich (or however you spell it) was fouling balls out of the park in his first at bat. Ortiz hit a good pitch just enough, everyone knew that the unreal reliever shutout couldn't last.

Playing in NY will be tough. Francoma made the comment that Shill may have to throw 180 pitches in the post game interview. Maybe his health is better than has been let on. (not 180 of course, but maybe 7-8 innings?)

No matter what happens from now on I'm impressed at how Boston rebounded. Losing in game 6-7 or the ALCS with some severe bounces going against you is still good. If Shill shows up at 90% Boston will have a good chance.

This series quickly regained that rivalry feel. I hope you're all enjoying it as much as I am, both sides. (how many "sick" days will be taken tomrrow in the northeast?) :)

Edit: Props to Loaiza, Wakefield,(amazing team player) Tori, Francoma, the Trot, Cairo,(stole important hit early from Bellhorn) both sore catchers, and of course Ortiz. Both starters played well, as expected.

Despite the crazy amounts of spelling errors, your point is taken. I agree great game, great for baseball, great for everyone, even NY fans. We get to see this series end in New York the way it should be. The rivalry feeling is definitely there again and it makes it fun to watch. Ortiz, I hate his guts but you gotta tip your hat to him. Loaiza gets a big pat on the back for a very gutsy 3 innings. Good pitch, better bat. Game 6 in New York, 8:00pm. see you then.

How likely is the rainout tomorrow? Not only could both teams use the off day, so could the millions of people working on 5 hours of sleep.

Some by mistake, some on purpose. The "Francoma" nick came around when he sits there rocking back and forth like an old lady. Besides a few unique instances, he doesn't leave the dugout. His questionable choices seem to be working out the last few days. If he wins it another more flattering nickname will surely emerge....

Wow, what a great 2 games!

I'm a yankees fan (really!) and I have to say kudos to Boston for hanging in there.

As far as Rivera getting owned? How can you blame tonight on him? Gordon bombed. He had guys all over the place, and rivera came in with no outs and a man on third. Sorry, him giving up 1 run doesn't equate to getting owned (now, Sunday nights game is different... they did own Rivera)

Anyways, I still think the yanks are going to win this series, and most likely tomorrow night.

I didn't want folks to think I was a fair weather poster, hence me posting this at 1:46am. :)

Great series, I hope the yanks blast schilling again tomorrow, and close out this Sox team.

Go Yanks!
