Two mods for Off Topic doesn't seem to be enough; it is by far the busiest part of the forums and could probably do with at least 6-8 mods.

I'm just saying, I notice no difference now from the old system with the two new mods that have been implemented (no offence).

As per DerekWilson, Off Topic will not be voting for it's own Mods.

Also, how about some examples of what you are talking about?

Please PM the mods or post links to threads you have issues with. While there are two official new mods for OT all of the senior mods and most of the new mods still give the place a once over on a regular basis ;)

I can lock every 42nd thread if you would like. :) Anyway, some of the changes revolve around cleaning up topics and not just locking them. As an end result you should see fewer locked topics in OT if you run averages. We are taking notes though, and like Santa we check them twice.

I have been posting here for 7 years and have never been treated as I was in this thread.

It de-generated into a huge P&N discussion when all I really wanted to do was talk about my vacation to Cuba and express how nice I thought it was (dispite all I had heard before I left).

Firstly, I'm an American and I don't agree with SickBeast at all in his assertions that Cuba would be a nicer place to live than America or Europe. I've traveled to many different countries and I can say that there are beautiful parts in any country, and they can be very convincing. Go to the most ghetto areas of America, and you'll find America looks like a third world country. The difference is that these areas are the exception, not the rule in this country-- and the opposite in others like Cuba.

I am appalled, however, that the overall American response to this thread has been overly aggressive/hostile and rude. I read through all the pages in the thread and I think I saw 5 posts by Americans that were level-headed. Are we that insecure about our country that we forget how to compose ourselves?
Mods, you have my apologies for making political statements in that thread; it ran off-topic (from off-topic), and I was simply responding to repeated accusations of being a 'commie'.

Here's probably the worst example:

holy shit, what a fucking moronic statement. Get the fuck out then.

Unbelievable. Several members in the thread stood up for me, but there were a group of 5-10 of them that were completely beligerant.

There is enough blame on BOTH sides in that thread. You came out swinging....

To be honest, I think I would rather be a Communist than live under Bush's rule.
You guys have such personality

That said, a few people (IMHO) went over their top in their responses. It really should have been two threads, an OT one on your visit and a P&N one on the conditions there. Unfortunately that all got muddled into one brawl.

That all said, you've brought it up and I'm sure one of the senior mods will look it over now and act if they feel it's justified...

So having a certain political POV is now a bannable offence?

My stuff was *entirely* in response to them, and I never once cursed at anyone, even in the least.

I never suggested you should be banned. I do think you aggrivated the situation by making remarks that many people would take as inflamatory. Some did, and the question is did those people cross the line or not. I (happily) defer to the more senior mods on that decision.

bsobel...SickBeast started an opinion. If other users took it as "inflamatory", well that is fine. However, it does not justify a personal attack.

It seems to me you are trying to justify these users' actions...

This matter was dealt with by one of the more senior mods - thanks very much. :)

That said, I still do find Off Topic somewhat chaotic and seldomly post there. I suppose it's nice to have a place to post pretty much whatever you want; I just find that people can be too insulting in there sometimes, and it usually seems like the people doing it have little or no reason to be flaming people.

The listed mods are not the only mods there, senior mods can "moderate" anywhere.

I agree, usually I get timely responses with PMs from the Mod on duty (including PMing them spam threads etc), but now it seems they are very busy. Maybe a few more elite members made mods for OT would help.

I'm having more problems in the Cuba thread:

That said, SickBeast is one of the dumbest people I've had the displeasure of coming across on these forums. Everyone in Cuba is a master mechanic and an amazing singer? They're all beautiful, multi-talented, polite people? Nobody is poor, and everything is as near to perfect as it comes in this world? Do you actually believe the words you're typing?
Unbelieveable. He contorts what I said (Cubans are good with cars = all Cubans are master mechanics?) after personally insulting me? And he's somehow 'elite'?

Dave, those two quotes were statements he made in the original thread, not comments from me.

Actually I wouldn't mind if the mods deleted the Cuba Thread.

It has some good stuff in there about Cuba too.

Just keep it in P&N.
IMO they need another sub-forum for when P&N threads de-generate. Call it "De-generative P&N" or something. Then the mods can move threads like this into a new 'vault'.

Can I still mark a response as the 'answer'?

lmao...
A thread starts out as OT, generally friendly discussion... Then, when it degenerates, it gets shipped off to P&N. So, P&N is lower than OT. I rarely venture into P&N... I'd probably have to stab my eyes out after venturing to a forum of degenerate P&N threads.

Yes, and perhaps they should let all the banned members post there and see what happens.

I agree with SickBeast that "Off Topic" is at times poorly moderated as I see alot of the members who post there get flamed for no reason when they post something. One name that comes to mind is "Ponifex"(?) who immediately flames someone's post by saying "because you were born!". I mean come on, what kind of response is that? If you want me to find that thread then keep waiting because I am not going to waste my time tring to find one example when you can just visit the root of the thread "Off Topic" and find multiple examples. Though from what I read on the thread rules...

1) No trolling, flaming or personally attacking members. Deftly attacking ideas and backing up arguments with facts is acceptable and encouraged. Attacking other members personally and purposefully causing trouble with no motive other than to upset the crowd is not allowed.

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2070583&enterthread=y

and this rule...

6) Foul language in topic titles and excessive foul language is not permitted. With uncensored language comes an increased requirement for responsibility among users. Moderator discretion applies.

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2070583&enterthread=y

are never followed is probally why alot of members do not post anything in fears of retailiation from others for no apparent reason at all.

Though what do I know since I have not broke the 1,000+ post mark? The number of posts on this board is like the number of kills in a video game... if you do not have enough then you do not have the right to say anything or otherwise be prepared to be flamed!

FLAME ON! (From Fantastic Four!)
