Well, my friend and I arrived on time in FRA and then took the 10:54 ICE train to München-Pasing, arriving on time at 14:24. The train was full of people drinking beer and in a real jovial mood heading to Munich.

The weather here is amazingly gorgeous...perfect cannot describe it. And the area where we are staying with my former colleague is equally gorgeous and cozy.

Makes me want to move here tomorrow!

No plans for the evening, but we are considering a trip to http://www.andechs.de. We'll see if time permits!

Tomorrow the plan is to get into a big beer tent by 10:00 AM at the latest and stay until closing.

So, since my last reply, I have spent a day at the Oktober Fest, rented a Mercedes SLK convertible, driven to Bertchesgaden/Koenigssee, hiked 3.5 km up to the 1874-meter-high summit of the Jenner mountain in the German/Austrian Alps, ascending about 600 meters in the process, hiked back down, then got back into the car, drove the "German Alps Street" or Deutsche Alpenstrasse with the convertible top down, and even got 200 Km/H on the Autobahn heading back into Munich. I have also taken some 500 photos.

Details and photos to come when I get back.

I will say that Saturday, the first day of the Oktober Fest, was mind blowing. Actually, I was not prepared for the number of people. Hundreds of thousands of people, shoulder to shoulder, toe to toe, all getting drunk together. One MUST get into one of the big dozen or so beer tents BEFORE 10 AM in the morning. And if you like your spot, you better stay there until closing because a few thousand people are ready to break the door down to sit where you're sitting! Insane!

Tomorrow we go back for another full day at the O-Fest, but it looks like the amazingly gorgoeus, cloudless, 70-degree, Fall weather will sadly end to be replaced by much cooler temperatures and rain.

But that's okay, I'll be in a tent trying to drink more than the 4 litres of beer I drank on Saturday

I went two years ago. Flew into Stuttgart and did a loop with my SLK before driving from Innsbruck to Munich.

Hotel reservations were not too hard to get. I never got a spot in a Beer tent, but I had plenty of phone walking around getting trashed. I'm sure you already know, but the white wurst with some mustard -- goddamn that stuff is great. Perfect with beer.

We took the ICE train from Munich back to Stuttgart. Very nice way to travel. I think we topped out at about 180-190 kph. I was never on an area of autobahn that wasn't speed limited.

Enjoy it! I'm hoping to be in Bavaria next summer after I get through with my semester in Spain.

Oktober Fest is awesome. Anyone who hasn't been need to try it one day!

In addition to a few litres of beer in a big tent, the itinerary calls for visits to Berchtesgaden and Zell am See in Austria.

See you all next Wednesday!

 <-- :p

Berchtesgarten is beautiful. make sure you visit eagle's nest. leave hitler's photo album alone though.

Not counting beer, about how much did it cost you guys to do this trip? I've always wanted to go but never bothered to look into pricing.

BTW, I would have lived in the Paulaner tent. ;)

No fair, way more fun than my Oktoberfest last Saturday...did a quick spin through the lame Oktoberfest on our street (84th st, Yorkville, Manhattan), then on to the Czech/Slovak version at the Bohemian beer hall in Astoria. I did, however get the authentic Oktoberfest hour+ wait to get in the beergarden though!

Awesome pics, & wow, crazy prices. I think I'll stick with this side of the Atlantic for the time being. :)
