(CNN) – Christine O'Donnell may be the GOP Senate nominee in Delaware, but in 1996 she was the press secretary for the Christian group, Concerned Women for America, and in an interview with CNN, said there was "just as much, if not more evidence" supporting the theory of creationism as there is supporting the theory of evolution.

In the CNN interview with then correspondent Miles O'Brien that aired on March 30, 1996 O'Donnell also said DNA is linked to God.

"I think that when you look at genetic engineering, it all points to creationism, because genetics can be traced back to the obvious existence of a higher being - of God," O'Donnell said.

Although she said she thought the theories creationism and evolution should both be taught in public schools, she voiced her skepticism over the validity of evolution.

"Evolution is a theory and it's exactly that," O'Donnell said. "There is not enough evidence, consistent evidence to make it as fact."

O'Donnell's comment came from a section of the interview where she defined creationism.

"Well, creationism, in essence, is believing that the world began as the Bible in Genesis says, that God created the Earth in six days, six 24-hour periods. And there is just as much, if not more, evidence supporting that," O'Donnell said.

The O'Donnell campaign did not immediately respond to CNN's request for a comment on whether she stands by her comments, and CNN is waiting for a response from the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

O'Donnell won the GOP primary Tuesday night with the support of Tea Party activists. She defeated centrist Republican Rep. Mike Castle who had the backing of the GOP establishment.

She's right that evolution is indeed a theory, but the bolded part is rather idiotic. Where's the evidence that the Earth was created in six 24-hour periods? Where's the evidence that life started at that time? Where's the evidence that Earth is merely thousands of years old instead of millions or billions?

Is she runnning on a platform that includes teaching creationism in 2010? That seems more relevant to me than what she thought 16 years ago. Quite frankly if she doesn't view the US Treasury as her personal piggy bank to toss IOU's in while shoveling out borrowed cash I really don't care what her views on creationism are.

She has also stated that you CAN legislate morality and a million other ridiculous things. Her people have also scrubbed her website completely similar to what Angle did after her win - soon to be replaced with softer stances which are less apt to make people vomit in the general.

Fail candidate is still fail.

The 24 hour period for a day is a recent concept.

As some theologians have stated; the definition of a day is not identified - it is a conseptual time frame.

That's some pretty weak sauce, we're diurnal and are programmed to break time down in such a way.

I really don't care what her views on creationism are.

It's not just creationism vs evolution. Accepting creationism means she completely rejects all science. All radiometric dating is thrown out. Millions of fossils thrown out. Using Doppler shift to estimate the age of the universe is all thrown out.

Using her own logic:
-DNA tests cannot be used in court because DNA does not prove lineage (DNA lineage is the strongest evidence supporting evolution)
-Speeding tickets issued using RADAR are not valid because Doppler shift to calculate a vehicle's speed is all bullshit (Doppler shift is how we know how big the universe is and how fast it's moving)

There's nothing wrong with her being retarded. Lots of people are born retarded or have a serious head injury that causes mental retardation, and there's nothing we can do to fix that. That doesn't mean we should let retards run the government. You wouldn't let a retard drive a car would you? Then why would you let one run the government?

I think it is considered to be dementia.
She's not a sacred cow...just a regular cow.

You may not care, but I certainly do. I don't want people in positions of power who believe, wrongly, that there's bonafide scientific evidence for creationism.

How is this a shock? The majority of the far right is creationist. You really think there are evolutionists at those teabag rallies?

Anyone who uses the "evolution is just a 'theory'" argument doesn't understand 8th grade science, which is where we are generally taught what "theory" means in science (hint: it doesn't have the same meaning as it does in common parlance) and/or is either an uneducated fool or is trying to prey off the poor education and/or foolishness of others.

Geez, I hope the Left doesn't start coming all over itself because there's a new nut case on the right. I have already seen her in younger days talking about how bad masturbation is. Masturbating about how she's against masturbation is still masturbation. Come on, stick to what her issues are and run against those, if she has any issues, that is.

The majority of this country believe God played a roll in the creation of life. She just represents the view of the majority of this nation and as such will make a fine senator.

Actually, I am not looking for a senator who believes as the majority that God had a roll in the creation of life. I want some stupid asshole who has his mind on shit like how to create jobs, how to get the economy moving, how to best govern for the majority of people. Any stupid asshole can believe something believed by a majority of people, like can openers are a good way to open cans, and it doesn't make them worth shit. You don't have even a rudimentary capacity to think.

Evolution is not a theory is a demonstrable fact.

Theory of Evolution is a theory.

Two distinct terms which most fail to even grasp.

Right on, right on, right on!

Yeah, I'm sure she'll make an excellent senator, no doubt whatsoever.
