Hillary Clinton was hit with possibly the most bullshit of any candidate in history, as it started in 1991 and lasted until 2016 (it continues but she is no longer a candidate for anything). That's a quarter century of bullshit. There's no comparison for Harris. She's a woman, but that's about all she has in common with Clinton. Generations are an arbitrary made up term that only really made sense with regards to Baby Boomers. Trying to parse out the vote using generations is useless. Sex/gender, age, religion, race, etc., are going to be a lot more relevant.

Harris still has to prove herself capable, but for fucks sake, she is not in the same category as Palin. And the polls didn't matter a month ago and they still don't matter now. The only thing that matters is voter turnout - it's the only thing that has actually mattered, for any election, in all of history. If like 12% of remaining elected Democrats with name recognition who haven't endorsed Harris get behind Harris, all Harris has to do is appear competent, pick a decent VP, and then put money into getting everyone who isn't a fascist enabler or collaborator out to vote.

Ok agreed but I seriously hope she doesn't try and pull the giggly girl routine:

My wife has an email from Joe when the US government forgave her public service loans. The student loan debt that has been forgiven under the Biden is an absolute win for that admin and they should be running with "Keep us in office and there will be plenty more".

Not having $1200 a month or more you are throwing out the window to service student loan debt does nothing for anyone but financial institutions. Put that money back in the economy and generate some jobs.
Screw you. Don’t you know the red states all pull themselves up without loans or living on the federal tit! Fuck you and your economic common sense and wanting an intelligent information driven workforce. We need good solid American jobs like those in the south have. You know, counting the federal dollars given to them from the blue states.

Newsom is a former mayor of SF and has modest approval ratings as CA governor. His family does have movie star good looks though.

For reasons you alluded to, I've always said I don't like Harris or Newsom's chances in the Rust Belt. In an alternate timeline where Joe Biden had not ran for reelection, I believe neither would have won the nomination.

Many Dems don't like Manchin because he's a DINO. Repugs don't like him because he was/is officially a Democrat. He doesn't really have a strong profile in national politics, so how exactly does he slaughter DJT?
it's a fantasy football thing to say. I think either Yoda or Obi Wan would mop the floor with all of them.

Few of us would pay for a subscription, but The WSJ has a lengthy retrospective on the past 3 years.

Archived link to bypass paywall:

I get WSJ free through work and have to say it’s become one of my favorite news sources, minus the garbage opinion section and even more garbage comments section. Their actual news though is quite good. Couldn’t stomach paying for it of course because Murdoch as you point out.

this is science fiction.

*******************

the only input i can provide is, i hope to god that the dems don't try to go with Kamala. poll after poll after poll has shown that women voters *do not* want a woman president. With Kamala running i predict a landslide 60% Trump 25% Kamala 15%+ other parties.
i can only pray that i'm wrong. i would be very, very happy to be wrong.

you're wrong, I'll say it for you. Hillary won the popular vote by a huge margin (~2.9 million votes). Don't forget that.

I wonder if Harris/Newsome could run into problems. Looking at this article, if Cheney hadn't moved to Wyoming, Bush wouldn't have gotten Texas electoral votes.

Those dastardly Democrats, trying to reduce plastic waste and forcing me to wear a mask in hopes of limiting the spread of new and unknown diseases. Bond villains! What's next, trying for clean air or water by choking off the right of a family business to dump mercury into the river?

Not sure how many environmental regulations Trump rolled back, but he seemed to particularly take aim at any that Obama had something to do with. This is a top (though not the only) reason I vote against the GOP.
Won't SOMEONE please think of the turtles?!?

Cheney moved back to Wyoming on paper only. It was bullshit that the Dems didn't fight him on that.

While I do like the turtles, thinking more about kids growing up without fucking cancer due to stockholders saving money on chemicals they didn't need to pay to dispose of properly. Probably a lot to hope for, but a world not ravaged by climate change if we can manage to at least not lie about it being a thing would be nice. And for all the economy-only fans, wonder what the bill is going to be in 50 years for all that ravaging, assuming we have a modern society left. What is the bill already for stronger storms, and this is absolutely nothing compared to what's coming.

Eh, who cares right, we'll be dead. I care, because I have kids, and I'd like to think I'm not a blithering selfish asshole (all the time). I said as much to one elderly relative downplaying climate change and finally she just said, well End Times are coming so it won't matter. And that's probably half this damn country that is that insane believing this fairy tale shit.

Humans are part of the environment, even if we are the epitome of "shitting where we eat" throughout our history.

So what's your problem with that? Maybe you just don't know enough to understand. One thing I will bet. You can't prove your position.

You are not thinking. A die is cast, a dye is fixed, often with the help of a mordant. Had I used fixed rather than cast you could say I was unaware the expression referred to dice. I can’t see words, I can only hear them so I am forced to learn every word by memorizing the sound of the letter order in each of then. Homonyms are a problem. Shakespeare, apparently, couldn’t spell his own name. Any word I heard the British spelling of that contains the Z letter I hear spelled ax zed instead of zee. I don’t know how to spell z in American dialect. Guessing on zee.

Also, a ship can’t sail where the water is too shallow.

Also remember that when a person feels so worthless they need to put children down for being inept at spelling, it can scar them for life and even make them mean. I am sorry that happened to you.
You are mixed up. My only contribution to the discussion concerning die versus dye was the question of the nature of the metaphor. It could refer to a decision determined by the role of a die, one of a pair of dice. I said I'd always thought it referred to a mold in an industrial process that turned out specific identical objects. So, the die being cast would suggest that the end result is determined already. Nothing to do with spelling much less anyone (my parents) putting me down for anything. They were not like that. I was not taught to hate myself. That's once again your propensity for projection dominating your discourse.

Just wanted to say thanks Nancy, you have helped the Democrats over your career in so many ways, and even now in your semi-retirement.
She raised 5 children before running for office. She said that taking on congress was a cakewalk in comparison.
