Read that Jill and others do not want Biden's debate performance to be the last thing remembered about him so they want him to stay in so that is not his legacy. Obviously it's just a report, but it does sound in place with how out of touch the Biden team has been from every other report - including from that fundraiser, where the Pod Save America guys said basically everyone was like Biden is not good, except his team said he was good to go.

Also read that Clooney called Obama to get 'permission' to publish that op-ed, and Obama didn't endorse him publishing it but also did not say anything for him not to do it. A sort of silent endorsement.

Maybe the call has to come from Obama straight to Biden. Obama, pick up the phone.

Biden never really forgave him for talking him out of running in 2016. So no on that I think.

If anybody is going to have a direct conversation with him it's probably Pelosi and Schumer.

Sounds like they need someone to reframe it for them, they have the opportunity for the last thing remembered to be him reading the room, acknowledging the situation, and gracefully passing the torch--I do still think he has a chance to win, but if he doesn't, then the last thing remembered will be his stubborn refusal to do that when it could have made the difference. That, to me, seems worse.

Pelosi definitely has the right stuff to do the right thing. Schumer is more of the pansy.

That's on Biden, presumably he as an adult makes his own decision. I wish he had run, Hillary was a terrible candidate due to baggage (fair or not). And I think Hillary as President may have done a good job, but as a candidate she was terrible. Eh, the past is the past. I can wish for that, or for Biden to decide up front that an 82-year-old shouldn't be campaigning for a 2nd term, or I can wish for a pony.

To quote Joker's CO in Full Metal Jacket, at this point "It's a shit sandwich and we're all going to have to take a bite." There are no great options with a few months to go before the election. Trump is doing what he should, stay the hell out of the way as the Democrats spiral downward.

We have limited swing state surveys to go off of however the argument that Harris will do worse than Biden in the rust belt seems based off the presumption that Biden isn't already possibly down in those states worse than making the swap would incur. Yes, name recognition etc but I do imagine a lot of voters have been thinking about this very possibility for the last two weeks.

My problem with all of this is going off polls in an era where you can pick and choose which polls you like (I'm guilty of this). And even if you buy the notion that Biden is slipping in the polls, it doesn't necessarily mean the same people will not vote for him in November.

And as far as all the calls to Dem offices asking for Joe to resign...are these legit Dem voters? Or Republicans? Or astroturfed actors?

I simply don't know the answer to any of this. I think you COULD make an argument that Joe is doing his best to advocate for himself and fighting off the "elites" of the party (LOL) and that support could come flooding back in Sept/Oct as people get over the drama. Trump's gaffes are already baked in, he doesn't lose support. Should we treat Biden the same way? Yeah he'll sound tasty and shuffle around because he's old, and he'll call someone by the wrong name (Trump does this all the time), but he seems to at least have a decent grasp of the subject matter when pressed. He's not talking about windmills, sharks or getting electrocuted.

But the media has made it such that only Dems can/should have agency.

Bottom line: I get the idea of making a change, but I don't think Harris inspires any independents.

oh it's all just astro turfing, Joe Biden's campaign was going great with amazing support in his party, great polling numbers, just up until the debate, so I'm sure these are just plants :)

I don’t even know if Kamala will fare better. I do know that she can at least competently make her case over the next four months, and with her at the top of the ticket the Ds can say they put somebody worth voting for at the top of the ticket, rather than just not voting for the orange fuckwad.
