I think Pelosi misspoke. And George Clooney? Movie star celeb. Maybe he should be more circumspect and not try so hard to be an influencer here. A lot of people who have a public persona do and say things to get attention, whether they realize it or not.
It’s not even a misspeak. The media is over blowing the comments. Fine, she didn’t give am all for Joe speech. But it’s far from the wink wink nudge nudge they are pretending it to be.

Also don’t believe the rumours that Schumer said Biden should drop out to donors. He’s not that stupid and careless to say anything that is complete 180 to his public comments.

The problem is that right now, Biden is looking like he's on a severe downslide from where he was a year ago, let alone four.

It doesn't take someone who follows politics to follow that on through. Nobody thinks he's going to get "better" when his problem is age. What will the POTUS be like in a year? That scares people. I reckon I'm in the minority when I say I wouldn't care if the VP took over. I would be concerned if someone lost their judgement, and frankly that seems like Biden right now.

Florida isn't really normally a blue state; it's purple at best. Looking back over the last few decades the GOP has won more presidential elections than not. I live in a county that went for Biden (barely) and there aren't many of those.

I didn't vote for Biden in the primary mainly because it's not hard to see he'd be 82 when he finishes his first term. I liked Warren but she's now 75 and even that's too old to be starting a grueling 4 year job IMO.
And the alternative to Biden is trump. So do you want a Biden who's lost a step, or trump?

Fame

I think it's more that having achieved some success in one area their egos tell them they have something important to contribute in other areas they know nothing of value about. We do have this saying that success can go to people's heads. The reality behind that is that the unconscious nature of self hate requires self understanding as well as the proof that achievement means you aren't as worthless as you may feel. Success can just play into egotism rather than combat the reason for needing it.

Independents are people who hate Democrats to their core. There is literally no other reason to not be voting straight Democrat right now.

I'm "Independant" because I want to reduce nonsense mail and phone calls and all that crap. I've pretty much only ever voted Democrat because Republicans are indistinguishable from Nazis.

My dad (even more liberal than me, probably) registered as a Republican in Florida, because he thought it was important to know what kind of brain rot those fucks are feeding their blood bags. The stuff that came in his mail was always fucking insane. Like, the world is ending tomorrow, every democrat is Stalin-Hitler and wants to eat your babies, water is poison anyway so let's deregulate the oil industry. Actual shit like that, fed to the fucking imbeciles in Florida, year after year.

Assuming you have Kamala as the Presidential candidate, you really can't put Newsom on there or you'll lose CA's electoral votes for one of them during the electoral count in congress.
Why? Neither of them is a Senator...

I'll vote Biden if he's the nominee. If he's replaced I'll vote for the replacement.

The situation sucks but the powers that be didn't feel the need to do anything. WTF can any of us do about it now. I voted against Biden in 2020 primaries and the majority of Democrats were not concerned by his age and they voted for him. I've hoped all along he'd somehow be "stepping aside" but it became pretty obvious he had no intention of doing so.

The insane part is how many people believe GQP nonsense, and that isn't just Trump's MAGAts. It's a terrible indictment on American education and politics that Trump is a coin flip to win the Electoral College. But many other countries are facing similar right-wing forces, so we're not unique in that sense. (Somehow the UK just got it right, on July 4th no less.)

I realize that diversity of opinions is the whole reason for this subforum, but damn there are some dumb ass takes in this thread alone. In some large counties, no-party preference (NPP) voters outnumber those registered as Democrats or Republicans. I guess you could argue that we are officially NPP voters, but not true independents. We're not really that elusive "independent" voter in a swing state that will decide whether the chief insurrectionist will serve as POTUS again. But even if you can't understand how a thinking person could possibly choose DJT over a (D) opponent, that's the reality we're facing in a coin flip election. The fact is those Rust Belt white voters decided in 2016, and then flipped in 2020, so I wouldn't say they "hate Democrats to the core." Instead of lumping independents in with MAGAts/deplorables, we have to court their votes. There's no viable alternative.

Their operation seems much more efficient and streamlined this time around. With the way media is pushing it, feels insurmountable at this point.

Axelrod's warning:

“The numbers were daunting before the debate, and now there’s a real danger that they’re going to get worse,” David Axelrod, the chief strategist for Barack Obama’s two winning campaigns, told me in the first week of July. “If that’s the case—if we get to the point of fighting to hold on to Virginia and New Hampshire and Minnesota, meaning the main six or seven battlegrounds are gone—then yeah, we’re talking about a landslide, both in the Electoral College and in the popular vote.”

Axelrod added, “The magnitude of that defeat, I think, would be devastating to the party. Those margins at the top of the ticket would sweep Democrats out of office everywhere—House, Senate, governor, you name it. Considering the unthinkable latitude the Supreme Court has just given Trump, we could end up with a situation where he has dominant majorities in Congress and, really, unfettered control of the country. That’s not far-fetched.”

Sure, but I'm hoping it is generally understood that independents in this context is referring to people in the middle between the two parties, not people like you or me who are to the left of Democrats. The swing voters, who only "swing" to the Democrat side when they believe that the Democrat isn't going to turn us into California overnight, or make crime legal and guns illegal, or turn Christians into gay frogs.

It's actually not. Trump supporters simply don't believe most of it. Just as Biden supporters don't believe the claims made about his crimes.
Yes. Cause equals.

That's like saying that normal should meet retarded in the middle and everyone should go home semi-retarded. Like. No.

Trump has been convicted of over 30 felonies and Biden has been convicted of (or even indicted for) zero.

This is a good example though. Conservatives think this is all a ‘well we both believe X so we are the same’ situation when in reality it is simply a ‘conservatives live in a fantasy world’ situation.

Worth a note. People often conflate two separate Trump situations. Trump owned Miss USA and Miss Teen USA. He bragged about walking into the Miss USA pageant dressing room to spy on contestants because as the owner they had to let him in. He never admitted to walking into the Miss Teen USA dressing room. However, I believe at least 5 Miss Teen USA contestants have stated that they saw Trump walk into the dressing room. So while he almost definitely did spy on under age girls changing, he didn't actually admit that part.

His "grab them by the pussy" comment however is absolutely him admitting to sexual assault.

I am a registered Democrat but got a couple letters credited to Trump Jr. in the last few months asking me to fill out a multiple choice survey with incredibly vile leading questions. I am pretty sure they asked for a donation. I would have filled it out including my very indignant remarks but I needed to supply a USPS stamp and threw them in the trash. Where they got the idea that I might be sympathetic to R propaganda I have no idea. Maybe a shotgun approach. I'd think their odds of getting anything from people around here are really slim.

I know a few of what I call "independents"--these are people who maybe work like dogs, have families, whatever....they don't follow politics for whatever reason. I could argue they should, but hey it's their life. Anyway after talking a bit to these, the debate did a number on them. They are freaked out. I don't think any of them will vote for Trump, they see him and his policies for the shitstains they are...the fear is that people like this just won't vote at all.

We know Trump zealots will vote no matter what, so a low turnout hurts the Democrats. Who gives a shit about their reasons for doing so. He's a rapist felonious racist fraud and they are fine with it, which makes them no better.

My few people are obviously a tiny sample size so maybe this isn't a widespread thing with the mushy middlers/non-political types.

What's funny is how sometimes you'll decide that you absolutely can't comment on legal matters unless it's been decided in a court of law. Well Trump has already been convicted for some of his many crimes, Biden has not. Yet here you are, still with this 'both sides' nonsense.
I don't recall saying Trump wasn't guilty of a crime, I also don't recall claiming Biden was. I have used examples of the accusations.
